When Sunrise
Veterinary Clinic opens
its doors at its new Comox
location this Friday, it will
showcase a renovation
project that perfectly
blends form and function.
Upon entering, visitors
are greeted by a stunning
concrete and reclaimed
wood reception desk
(created by Live EdgeDesign and Fusion
Concrete Design), beyond
which sites a stylish and
space-saving steel rail
door system leading to a
generous treatment area.
Even the flooring, an eco-
friendly concrete-polymer
blend that both looks and
feels great, is innovative.
But while the new clinic
is certainly pleasing to the
eye, thanks in part to the
inspired designs of Lindsay
McCotter of re:SOLVE
Space Planning, even more
interesting is how it wascreated.
The design and
construction of Sunrise
Veterinary Clinic was
coordinated by Capstone
Dwellings Design-Build,
a local firm that is
pioneering the design-build
movement in the Comox
Valley. With a design-build
construction firm, one team
is hired to take a project
from design right throughto completion. The result
is shorter timelines, more
accountable budgeting and
fewer setbacks along the
way.
“Design-build has been
happening south of the
border for a long time,”
says Bethany Pearce,
who operates Capstone
Dwellings Design-Build
with her husband Joe.
“It’s quickly becoming the
new standard in cities like
Vancouver, Calgary and
Victoria because it offers
a better experience for the
client.”
