CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Indian Telecom czar and Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil
Mittal, has been named the Philanthropist of the Year 2010 by the Asian Awards for his contribution in the area of education for the underprivileged.
Mittal has been recognised for his outstanding contribution through Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Bharti Group.
Bharti Foundation's Satya Bharti School Program provides free quality education to underprivileged children in remote villages across India with particular focus on the girl child.
The Program, under which 236 primary schools and a senior secondary school are currently operating, reaches out to over 30,000 children with modern curriculum that includes computer aided learning, free uniforms & books and mid-day meals.
RECENT DEVELOPMENTSZain Uganda and other subsidiaries of telecom
giants Zain in 14 other Africa countries have been sold to Bharti Airtel of India for a record breaking 10.7 billion US dollars transaction value. The takeover of Zain had made Bharti Airtel the largest telecom service provider in Africa and the fifth largest in the world.
Bharti Enterprises Limited is most likely to sell its stake in Bharti AXA Mutual Fund to Bank of India and the deal is to be finalized in the next one month.
