Following Jesus with…
As people of faith guided by the Confessions of the Church, we often profess our faith
with the Apostles’ Creed. Each phrase contains deep meaning and one in particular is
“the Communion of Saints.” On the one hand, it refers to the Eucharist, the meal we
share at Christ’s table with our sisters and brothers in the faith. On another hand, it
refers to the community of saints, the great cloud of witnesses who have run the race
before us (or alongside us or after us). Saints include each person coming forward to
receive the bread and wine, some known by us personally and some who are famous,
whose writings or works inspire others in their own discipleship.
Last year during Lent, we set aside time during each midweek service to hear the
ways members of the Co-op follow Jesus in their chosen vocations and daily lives.
This year during Lent, we are going to learn about the more famous saints who have
taught countless people a deeper understanding of the love of God shown to us in
Christ Jesus. I hope you are able to join us on Wednesday evenings as we explore the
lives of these saints and how they help us remain connected with the Communion of
Saints today.
March 4 at Salem: John, the Beloved Disciple – the fourth Gospel arose from a
community shaped by love and affirmation of a mystical union with Christ in the face
of turmoil and persecution.
March 11 at Hill: Desert Fathers and Mothers – as Christianity moved from the
margins of society to the center of an empire, devout men and women sought to
reclaim the essence of their beliefs and practices by leaving the empire and going out
to the margins, namely, the desert.
March 18 at St. James: St. Ignatius – as the Roman Catholic Church was changing in
the aftermath of Martin Luther’s ignition of the Protestant Reformation, Ignatius
sought ways to help people connect with prayer practices and actions that would
deepen their personal and corporate faith life.
March 25 at Salem: Dietrich Bonhoeffer – in the lead-up to World War II, Bonhoeffer
founded a seminary designed to train pastors in the ways of Christ that were not
impacted by the national German-Christian Church supported by the Nazis and
ended up being martyred for his work.
April 1 at Holy Trinity: St. Teresa of Calcutta – in 1950 Mother Teresa started the
Missionaries of Charity in a very poor section of Calcutta, India where the workers
took vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience and she taught people to change the
world through small acts of love.
Interested? I hope so! May we find ways to follow Jesus with these saints!
-Pastor Kristal

Parking Lot Paving Donations
We ask you to please consider making a financial donation to help offset the costs of the repaving of the parking lots this past Fall.
The repaved parking lots have enhanced the appearance of the neighborhood, and have provided church members with addi-tional parking spaces within the Ninth street lot and additional handicap parking.
There is no wrong amount of money to
contribute.

SALEM SALUTATIONS
Erika Hauer’s 7 children wish to thank all those who mailed her both Christmas and January birthday cards. She delighted in hearing happy news from all of her Salem friends ! Our thanks to you for remembering Erika on those special days! -Blessings, Marie Spinelli, Erika’s daughter
To the Women of Salem - I really appreciate the care package and the previous ones you’ve sent me. Thank You so much! The candy and snacks taste great! -Sincerely, Chris Kosmela
The family of Edward Roman from the Alliance Congregation would
like to extend their gratitude for the many prayers, payment of their
rent and donations of gift cards by members of Salem. Mr. Roman, the
main breadwinner in their family, had a sudden cardiac issue recently.
His family, after initially being told he might not make it through the
night, is relieved that he has improved and is now at the
Hyman Caplan Pavilion for rehabilitation. God is good!
Dear Women of Salem - Thank you so much for the snacks. College is going well, thanks for the encouragement. Sincerely, Glenn Miller
Dear Women of Salem and Pastor Bob-
Thank you so much for the beautiful service,
ornament, cake, Bible, and blanket for Jaxon’s
baptism! We are truly blessed to have so many
thoughtful people in our lives who care for our
family as you do! We are also blessed that God
led us to this wonderful church!
Thank you for everything and continuing to
help us grow in Christ. God bless,
Garrett, Megan and Jaxon Zimmer
Thank you for my birthday cards for my 83rd birthday. I also want to thank Deb DiPasquale for delivering my fruit basket. We had a nice chat. -Wayne Miller
To the Women of Salem - Thank you for sending the goodie box to me! It was very thoughtful & definitely put a smile on my face! Thank you so much! -Meghan Kosmela
This is to express our thanks for the cards, phone calls, flowers and visits during my recent hospital stay. While I was recuperating, I realized it was not just your kindness that helped me to bounce back. It was your prayers. Jenni and I just wanted you to know how much your friendship means. Very appreciatively, Duke Snyder
Dear Lydia Rachel Circle,
I just wanted to thank you for the amaz-
ing goodie box that you sent to me at
school. It will help me through my mid-
terms and all my upcoming tests.
Again, thank you!

Spring Clean-Up April 25
Thinking on our Spring clean up-
Would like people to come out of the closet...
Need to know everyone who uses our closets. Both the front
closet near stage and supply closet near kitchen. Would like
to work on organizing them. Would like to have input from
all people who use these closets. Don't want to assume
that I know all who use these spots...(you know where that leads!)
Please email me with what you and your group store in each closet and
how often you use what you store. Also, your thoughts on what would
make these two storage areas work better would be helpful!
Thanks for your help, Linda E. [email protected]
