Sixth Commandment II

1. Thou shalt have none other gods

before me.

2. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image,

WHAT IS CAPITAL PUNISHMENT?

WHAT IS PUNISHMENT?

A punishment is the imposition of an undesirable or

unpleasant outcome upon a group or individual, meted

out by an authority

WHY PUNISHMENT?

Deterrence

Deu 13:9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him

to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

Deu 13:10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he

hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought

thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

Reformation

WHY / WHY NOT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT?

Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.

For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are

ordained of God.

Rom 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth

the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to

themselves damnation.

Rom 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the

evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which

is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

Rom 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if

thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the

sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to

execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a

mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

WHAT ABOUT ETERNAL PUNISHMENT?

Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof,

then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods,

knowing good and evil.
