OpeningPrayer
Godof salvation,
in your Prophet, Jesus the Christ,
you announce freedom
and summon us to conversion.
Aswe marvel at the grace and power of your word,
enlighten us to see the beauty of the gospel
and strengthen us to embrace its demands.
Grantthis through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.

Hymn730
Godis here! As we his people
meet to offer praise and prayer,
may we find in fuller measure
what it is in Christ we share.
Here, as in the world around us,
all our varied skills and arts
wait the coming of the Spirit
into open minds and hearts
Hereare symbols to remind us
of our lifelong need of grace;
here are table, font and pulpit,
here the cross has central place;
here in honesty of preaching,
here in silence, as in speech,
here in newness and renewal
God the Spirit comes to each.
Hereour children find a welcome
in the Shepherds flock and fold,
here as bread and wine are taken,
Christ sustains us as of old.
Here the servants of the Servant
seek in worship to explore
what it means in daily living
to believe and to adore.
Lordof all, of Church and Kingdom,
in an age of change and doubt
keep us faithful to the gospel,
help us work your purpose out.
Here, in this days dedication,
all we have to give, receive:
we who cannot live without you,
we adore you! We believe!

FirstReading
Jeremiah1:4-10
Nowthe word of the LORD came to mesaying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you wereborn I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." Then Isaid, "Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only aboy." But the LORD said tome, "Do not say, 'I am only a boy'; for you shall go to all to whom I sendyou, and you shall speak whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, forI am with you to deliver you, says the LORD."Then the LORD put out his hand andtouched my mouth; and the LORDsaid to me, "Now I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appointyou over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroyand to overthrow, to build and to plant."
Psalm71:1-6 (BOCP)
1 In you, O LORD, have I taken refuge; *
let me never be ashamed.
2 In your righteousness, deliver me and set me free; *
incline your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe; *
you are my crag and my stronghold.
4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, *
from the clutches of the evildoer and the oppressor.
5 For you are my hope, O Lord GOD, *
my confidence since I was young.
6 I have been sustained by you ever since I was born;
from my mother's womb you have been my strength; *
my praise shall be always of you.
Glorybe to the Father and to the Son:
and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now,
and shall be forever.
Amen.
SecondReading
1Corinthians 13:1-13
IfI speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am anoisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understandall mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to removemountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all mypossessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not havelove, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious orboastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is notirritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in thetruth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures allthings. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as fortongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we knowonly in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, thepartial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, Ithought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put anend to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will seeface to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I havebeen fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and thegreatest of these is love.
GradualHymn (Omitted)
Gospel
Luke4:21-30
Thenhe began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in yourhearing." All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words thatcame from his mouth. They said, "Is not this Joseph's son?" He saidto them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, 'Doctor, cureyourself!' And you will say, 'Do here also in your hometown the things that wehave heard you did at Capernaum.'" And he said, "Truly I tell you, noprophet is accepted in the prophet's hometown. But the truth is, there weremany widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up threeyears and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; yetElijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. Therewere also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none ofthem was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." When they heard this, all inthe synagogue were filled with rage. They got up, drove him out of the town,and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that theymight hurl him off the cliff. But he passed through the midst of them and wenton his way.

Hymn 313
God of grace and God ofglory,
on thy people pour thy power;
now fulfil thy churchs story;
bring her bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom,
grant us courage,
for the facing of this hour,
for the facing of this hour.
Lo, the hosts ofevil round us
scorn thy Christ, assail his ways;
from the fears that long have bound us
free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom,
grant us courage,
for the living of these days,
for the living of these days.
Cure thychildrens warring madness,
bend our pride to thy control;
shame our wanton selfish gladness,
rich in goods and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom,
grant us courage,
lest we miss thy kingdoms goal,
lest we miss thy kingdoms goal.
Set our feet onlofty places,
gird our lives that they may be
armoured with all Christ like graces
in the fight to set men free.
Grant us wisdom,
grant us courage,
that we fail not man nor thee,
that we fail not man nor thee.

Jesu,my Lord, my God, my all,
hear me, Blest Saviour, when I call,
hear me, and from thy dwelling-place
pour down the riches of thy grace.
Jesu,my Lord, I thee adore;
O make me love thee more and more.
Jesu,too late I thee have sought;
how can I love thee as I ought?
And how extol thy matchless fame,
the glorious beauty of thy name?
Jesu,my Lord, I thee adore;
O make me love thee more and more.
Jesu,what didst thou find in me,
that thou hast dealt so lovingly?
How great the joy that thou hast brought,
so far exceeding hope or thought!
Jesu,my Lord, I thee adore;
O make me love thee more and more.
Jesu,of thee shall be my song;
to thee my heart and soul belong:
all that I have or am is thine;

Hymn 325
Go forth and tell! Ochurch of God, awake!
Gods saving news to all the nations take;
proclaim Christ Jesus, Saviour, Lord, and King,
that all the world his worthy praise may sing.
Go forth andtell! Gods love embraces all;
he will in grace respond to all who call:
how shall they call if they have never heard
the gracious invitation of his word?
Go forth andtell where still the darkness lies;
in wealth or want, the sinner surely dies:
give us, O Lord, concern of heart and mind,
a love like yours which cares for all mankind.
Go forth andtell! The doors are open wide:
share Gods good gifts - let no one be denied;
live out your life as Christ your Lord shall choose,
your ransomed powers for his sole glory use.
Go forth andtell! O church of God, arise!
Go in the strength which Christ your Lord supplies;
go till all nations his great name adore
and serve him, Lord and king for evermore.
