WEEK OF ADVENT The 3

rd Week of Advent we light the pink candle, JOY! Some of

us may be struggling with being joyful this time of year especially if we have lost loved ones. Some may find it difficult to find joy any time of year because of mental health issues or other reasons. So how do we show joy, when inside we just don’t feel like it? As one who has lost loved ones, I believe I can show my joy by showing my love for the Lord. When I try to do for others and when I try to love those who are the hardest to love, then the joy just seeps out of me. It’s not an easy task but one I strive for especially during all the holiday festivities. Knowing Jesus is working within me to give me a peace-filled heart gives me reassurance that I’ll get through and that gives me joy. So what about you? Can you lay your struggles at Jesus’ feet in order to help you have joy this week? Give it a try! Religious Ed. Phone 973-838-0567 Mary Ramsden - Director [email protected] Andrea Duplain - Rel. Ed. “REJOICE” Half way through the season of Advent, we find Gaudete Sunday, the 3

rd Sunday of Advent. During this season of

waiting, preparation, and reflecting on our relationship with God, we pause to “Rejoice.” We are experiencing Wonder and Joy in the expectation of the King’s Arrival. The “Incarnation,” is God’s greatest gift to the world. Are you ready to receive the Christ child? Can you give Jesus the only gift He longs for? It is your heart He seeks and nothing else will do. In todays 2

nd reading,

we are told to “make our hearts firm because the coming of the Lord is at hand.” In today’s gospel, John the Baptist asks Jesus if He is the Messiah. Jesus replies by citing His miracles. You also have the power to change and improve the lives of those around You – what miracle can you do for another? Whose life will you improve? Be aware of the needs of others and become the face of Christ. What can you give to repay unconditional love? Love must only be repaid with love, for anything less is an insult. Today “Rejoice” in His Holy love, endless mercy and His wondrous hope that awaits you. Give Jesus your “Yes”, give Jesus your heart, give Jesus your ALL and “Rejoice!” Join RCIA on Thursday evening, 7pm in the parish house. For more info call Msgr. Carroll, 973-838-6838 or Carol Mangani, 973-283-2218. Date Topic Presenter Dec. 15 Prophecy, 2

PRO-LIFE CORNER

Father and maker of all, you adorn all creation with splendor and beauty, and fashion human lives in your image and likeness. Awaken, through the Holy Spirit, in every heart reverence for the work of Your hands, and renew among your people a readiness to nurture and sustain your precious gift of life. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT

First Reading: Isaiah 35:1-6a, 10 Isaiah tells us that when Christ comes, the weak will be made strong, the deaf will hear, the blind will see, and, above all, “sorrow and mourning will flee.” Second Reading: James 5:7-10 As the farmer waits patiently through winter and spring for the “yield of the soil” so, too, must we wait patiently for the coming of the Messiah. Gospel: Matthew 11:2-11 While in prison, John sends a messenger to Jesus to ask, “Are you He who is to come or do we look for another?” Jesus replies by citing the miracles he has performed for the blind, the deaf, and the crippled. He concludes by identifying John as the messenger He has sent to prepare the way.

LAUDATO SI’: Care for Our Common Home

Pope Francis addresses Laudato Si’ to every person on the planet. Each of us is called to take concrete steps from reducing consumption to working for political change to better care for creation. He focuses on a number of important themes.

THEME: Impact on the Poor.

OLM PARISHIONER RESPONSE: Don’t glean everything from our fields. Don’t buy more food than you will eat.
