The Session has called a Congregational

Meeting for Sunday, October 27th at

11:00 a.m. to vote on listing the entire

church property for sale.

Please note that the worship schedule for

October 27th has changed to accommodate

the meeting and encourage greater

attendance of church members. Instead of

two services as listed in the 2019 Worship

Schedule, we will have a Combined Service

at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

This November, Pineda’s Mission Team will once again pack Thanksgiving Baskets for needy families. A sign-up chart will be available in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, October 20th and we will collect items through Sunday, November 17th. An envelope for donations to purchase turkeys and pies will also be available. Please be sure to write “Thanksgiving Baskets” in the memo line of your checks. Please remember: no items in glass jars as there is a risk of breakage. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Ladies, please save the date for the

Presbyterian Women’s Fall Gathering

to be held on Saturday, November 16th

at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

More details will soon follow in the weekly

worship bulletins and November newsletter.

The Men’s Breakfast group invites all ladies of Pineda to be their guests at the

Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, October 5th at 8:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall!

There will be no charge for the ladies but we request that everyone sign up in the Fellowship Hall by Sunday, September 29th.

Cub Scout Pack 285 for which our church is the charter

organization will host Trunk or Treat on Friday,

October 25th from 6:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m. in our church

parking lot.

Trunk or Treat is a fun alternative to trick-or-treating door-to-door. Children will

arrive in their Halloween costumes and stop at the decorated trunks of the

participants’ cars to receive candy.

Everyone is invited! You can participate by bringing a child or grandchild, by

decorating your trunk and handing out candy, or you can donate candy for

participants to hand out! A box for candy donations will be available in the

Fellowship Hall on Sunday, October 6th.

“Finding Our Neighbors”

Church people often have clear ideas about wanting to reach out to their neighbors, but less clear ideas about who is really out there. Finding our Neighbors uses MissionInsite demographic research designed specifically for churches to discover who those neighbors really are and what their needs are that a church can meet. At W.O.W. on October 16th we will be looking at what the demographic data can tell us about the people who live in the developments just off the Pineda Extension, neighbors who pass the church frequently.

Rev. Paige McRight (pictured above), facilitator for our conversation, is a retired Presbyterian minister who served for 9 years as Executive Presbyter for Central Florida Presbytery. Prior to that, she served churches in St. Petersburg, FL and in South Carolina and was part of the staff of Atlanta and Charlotte Presbyteries. Paige has helped church people get to know their neighbors in lots of places and to serve them in ways that enrich both the neighbors and the church.

Join us for W.O.W. on Wednesday, October 16th!

We will enjoy dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall followed by a special program, “Finding Our Neighbors”

led by Rev. Paige McRight (details below).

Cost is $6.00 per person.

Please sign up in the Fellowship Hall by Sunday, October 13th.

Food Pantry Donations

Sunday, October 6th—Canned Corn

Sunday, October 13th—Pasta Sauce (Plastic jars or cans please)

Sunday, October 20th—Peanut Butter

Sunday, October 27th—Canned Seafood (Tuna, salmon, sardines, etc.)

Hurricane Dorian Relief Update

Many, many thanks to all who have so generously contributed food, supplies and monetary donations for victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas! Our church has partnered with Embraer Air who will match our donations in support of Airlink, a humanitarian relief organization that connects airlines with vetted NGOs to assist communities in crisis worldwide. It is amazing that our small congregation was able to make a donation of $8,855.00 toward the relief efforts! Please read below for a message from Airlink.

Just two weeks after Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas, Airlink and our partners have significantly helped people and communities devastated by the storm -- THANKS TO YOU!

With your support, we have:

Transported 157 responders Brought specialized search and rescue teams to the islands Enabled partners to provide food, clean water, medical care and mental health counseling to

survivors Helped organizations provide services to evacuees Moved into place partners assisting local and national agencies by organizing distribution of

aid, repairing communications infrastructure and collecting data to inform reconstruction efforts

Airlink continues to receive calls for assistance from partner organizations responding to the immediate needs of communities impacted by Hurricane Dorian. We expect our help to be needed as recovery continues in the months that follow. With that in mind, please spread the word about the work we are doing together. Encourage friends to visit www.airlinkflight.org.

Thank you for being a part of our efforts to save and improve lives!

Pastor’s Pondering

My friends,

“What is Pineda Presbyterian Church going to do about its property?” is a question I have asked myself for almost three years. It is the question that has been at the center of our life together long before I arrived; in the early 2000’s with the Pineda Causeway Extension and then in 2014 with the possible sell and relocating. Our church has faithfully sought to discern the best action to take for the future of Pineda Presbyterian Church for a number of years. In the Town Hall for church leaders this past July, I said what I thought:

The question for a group of believers named Pineda Presbyterian Church today is: “What is God calling us to do TODAY, in this place and at this time?” •Is God calling us to stay, as our egress and ingress onto our property has

been diminished? •Is God calling us to stay in a community which does not allow us safe

access to traffic signals for our safety? •Is God calling us to stay in a community that has grown up around us, so

that we have become physically invisible in our current surroundings?

At the Town Hall meeting for the congregation at the September W.O.W., I ended

my brief presentation:

I believe God has already shown Pineda a new land. As your Pastor, I believe God is calling this congregation to sell our property and build on new land. I also believe that the decision is yours…. There comes a point in the life of a church, not unlike the people who were led through the wilderness by Moses, where a vision of new promise can be seen…. (T)here are those who can see the new vision, are excited about the new possibilities God has planned for His people, and feel that God is calling the church to do something different in a new place with renewed hope for a fresh future.

We are not called to be caretakers. We are called to journey and grow dynamically. There is a “cost of discipleship.” The call may not be what is sweet to our ears,

what is easy, what is familiar, or what is most comfortable. The “cost of discipleship”……is often the uncomfortable, the demanding but ALWAYS…. the listening and the hearing and the doing…

My friends, hearing and responding to the call will take faith and courage, but God says, “I AM” AND God says mightily, “I AM with you!”

Please be in prayer to discern the call of God to you and to Pineda Presbyterian Church. I believe God is calling us to become a new creation in a new land.

May the peace of the Lord be with you,

Hands-On Mission Project

Pineda’s Mission Team and Presbyterian Women will be partnering to make Welcome

Kits for Serene Harbor. The Presbyterian Women will sew tote bags for the women to

carry toiletry items to the bath and the Mission Team will use the remaining Mission

Project Fund to purchase contents for the kits. Assembly of the kits will take place on

a Tuesday in October (TBD), following a session of LAFF (Lunch and Fun

Fellowship). If you would like to participate in this Hands-On Mission Project by

sewing tote bags, please contact Dian Walker at 321-208-8104.

Cuba Mission Donations

Pat Zinn from Pineda and Marsha Carter from First Presbyterian of Palm Bay will be visiting our sister churches in Iguará and Meneses from November 13-18. We will take part in the daily lives of the two churches, participate in worship, visiting homebound members, and also lead a Christmas craft activity for the women and teens, and a Bible story and craft for the children.

Whenever we travel to Cuba, we take over-the-counter medicines and other supplies needed by our sister churches. You can help by donating any of the items below; please place them in the Cuba Mission box in the Fellowship Hall. Please drop off donations by Sunday, November 10th.

Our requests for the November trip are:

Meclizine (over the counter Dramamine, Bonine)

Ibuprofen and Aspirin Children’s Multivitamins and

Senior’s Multivitamins Stomach medicines (Pepto Bismol,

Maalox, Prilosec, Zantac, etc.) Vitamin B-6 Antihistamines (Benadryl, Zyrtek, Claritin)

Glucosamine Triple Antibiotic ointment Non-adhesive gauze pads Desitin/diaper rash cream Products to moisturize the body and to

prevent or alleviate sunburn, for example Suave or Lubriderm lotion, suntan lotion, aloe vera gel

For the craft projects, we need fabric scraps in Christmas prints or colors, colored ribbon (1/2” wide), small pointed scissors, glue sticks, and crayons or colored markers, watercolor paint sets.

This visit will be close to Christmas, so we’d like to take Christmas cards from our members to each church. Please cut out a small photo of yourself (maybe from the church directory) and glue it to the inside of the card. Sign the card with your name and the name of your church.

Thank you for your support of our Cuba brothers and sisters!
