    OUR COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL CONCERNS

As set out in our Constitution, "Our church exists ... to impact our world for Christ," and one of our objectives is to serve "by promoting social justice and humanitarian ministries."

Our social concerns efforts have involved financial commitments to ministries such as Precious Life Shelter, Precious Lamb Preschool, New Life Beginnings, His Nesting Place, Long Beach Rescue Mission, and International Justice Mission. We also have a multitude of activities devoted to involvement in our local communities (such as participation in the Christmas Parade or the Polar Plunge) under the guidance of Vicki Barilla, our Director of Community Outreach.

Our church will continue to look for opportunities to support ministries that share our values, and to seek

the welfare of communities in which we live. As one of our Position State-ments says: "We believe it is the right and duty of the church and the individual Christian to participate in modern society as an instrument of good and healing."

    "Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression;

bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause."

    Isaiah 1:17 (ESV)

REACHING OUTStarting July 16, we begin our

most ambitious community outreach of the year – Vacation Bible School. If history holds, once again we will have a "sell out" crowd, with hundreds of our local children signed up to attend. Many dozens of volunteers have worked untold hours re-making the Fellowship Hall into the good ship VorBiS, developing the cirriculum, assembling the crafts materials,

preparing the meals and snacks, and sweating the multitude of details necessary to make VBS happen.

And this year, leading up to VBS our Pastors have provided Sunday morning messages that track to the themes for the 5 days of VBS, equipping us to respond to any questions that might come from this outreach.

Please express your appreciation to everyone who is working so hard to make VBS a success.

"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder

them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'”

    Matthew 19:14 (NIV)

Minster of the Month ~ Ted Kuhn ~

Ted has been a member of Grace since May 16, 2004. Since then Ted has become involved in various ministries around Grace. One ministry that he has really taken to heart and enjoys is being a part of the Welcome Team, Greeting during the 8am service a few Sunday’s a month. You may have seen him Ushering during the 8am service as well.

Ted’s welcoming smile and hand shake cannot be missed as you enter into the church on Sunday morn-ings. He awakens you with a warm friendly greeting to start your day out at church on the right foot.

We thank Ted for his constant devotion and warm heart as he helps to make the Welcome Team a won-derful ministry hear at Grace.

“Let’s Rock!” Presented by The G-Kids

Sunday, June 10 during all three services The G-Kid’s helped us in our worship experience by pre-senting “Let’s Rock”. This musical was filled with a message of understanding God has a place for each and everyone of us and that when we use our talents together anything is possible. Thank you to all of The G-Kid’s, their families, Director John Heideman, Assis-tant Director Christa Heideman and our wonderful bus driver, Dave Byrd.

    WOMEN’S MINISTRYHealth and Nutrition Seminar

Anticipation mounted as our first health and nutrition seminar approached. On the day of the seminar, over 20 ladies were chal-lenged by speaker, Lizz Nicholson. In addition to giving her own testi-mony, Lizz enthusiastically spoke on

HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO JULY!

This is such a great month full of weddings, anniversaries and vacations. There is sunshine till later in the evening so there is more time to enjoy the outdoors. Picnics, going to the park for concerts & Shakespeare, reunions and children’s birthdays. We have things going on here at Grace also that you will definitely want to be involved in.

VBS for children from 4 yr. olds to just finishing 5th grade, 8:45am - noon, July 16 – 20. Always a fun week with over 250 kids participating, teachers, aids, and parent volunteers. There is also a theatre workshop from, July 9 -20. These children will put on a production on the final night of VBS and start working on stage tech the week before. A very busy week for the church campus but well worth it.

Grace 101 will be July 22 after the 11am service with lunch. Anyone who wants to know more about our church, what we believe and wants to join our fellowship has an opportunity to attend and get your questions and concerns answered.

October 5, 6, & 7 are slated for The Baja Build. Don Klein is in charge of this project and it is a wonderful experience if you have never been. The building goes on Saturday and Sunday and the house will be done by Sunday’s afternoon when you leave to go home. My family has gone before and it was an amazing experience. The people who are to receive the home are there working also and they are so appreciative. Meeting the other families who live in the neighborhood and worshipping with them is a memory that I will never forget. If you can’t use a

hammer or drill there is always helping with the meals and various other jobs. You will be put to work no matter what your skills are, never fear! A great bonding experience with those from the church family, who work alongside of you, is a major plus. Put it on your calendar and look for announcements that will start closer to October.

OK Grace Buddies that’s it for this month. I pray you are enjoying your summer and that it will be very restful and relaxing. Make lots of memories and take lots of photos so you may be able to look back and remember all the fantastic things the Lord has provided for your benefits.

topics such as: How God designed foods that match our body’s needs; the latest research, information, and education on the fungus link to disease, with biblical references; which plastics are safe and hazard-ous to store food in; what foods fight and feed cancer and other illnesses as well as other topics of interest. Each participant received a

well thought out information packet highlighting seminar essentials. The abundance of door prizes as well as the generous sampling of healthy food available at the break helped to make the morning a memorable one. Many participants spoke very positively regarding this timely topic and expressed the desire to learn more.

A Special NoteAt the Women’s FundraiserBrunch/Fashion Show on May 5 the Fundraiser raised nearly $900.
