Happy

Mother’s Day! Sunday,

May 13th!

You’re Invited to a

Free Mother’s Day Concert Sunday, May 13th, at 6 p.m.

in the Sanctuary!

Nathan Herron & Rocky Fretz to present a musical program

you won’t want to miss!! (A Love Offering will be taken.)

Very recently, an opportunity was made available to our church family. First Citizens, the bank in front of our 74th Avenue parking lot on Kings Hwy, contacted us to see if we would be interested in purchasing their building and property at that location. They have offered a price that seems very a/ractive.

The problem is that the church can’t afford any more debt at this time, and I can’t make a case for how we would presently use the building. Still, I have the nagging feeling that if we don’t secure the property we will regret it a few years down the road. I believe the best years of ministry for OVBC are still ahead of it.

The Stewardship Commi/ee, Deacons, and the members of the Initiative #5 Team have met and discussed this. Some other leaders in our church are looking at it, too. We are looking to see if there is a way to secure the property that would add no additional burden to the finances of the church at this time. If nothing can be figured out, we won’t pursue it any further. If a concrete plan is formulated, your elected leadership will bring it before the church body as soon as possible. We’ll keep you informed.

Along other lines, conversation is starting again about the Sunday morning schedule. The Deacons and Church Council will be discussing this over the next couple of weeks. If a plan is approved by them that looks to be in the best interest of our church, we will bring that to the church body very soon as well.

Donna Eddings and family in the loss of her mother, Lore'a Quesinberry, who died on March 18th in Columbia, SC, after a long illness.

Joe and Rosemary Moniz (former OVBC mbrs.) and family in the April 12th loss of Joe’s father, Mariano Moniz, who lived in Bermuda and was 103 years old.

Nell Castle and family in the April 12th loss of her husband, Paul, after a lengthy illness. Nell and Paul were active members of OVBC for many years before moving to Davidson, NC, to be near family. A service to celebrate his life was held on April 15th in Davidson.

MAY Virtue: Responsibility

Big Idea: Do what’s expected of you, so that you can be trusted.

Scripture: Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. — Luke 16:10, NIV

Childcare is provided during all services for babies through 5 year olds. The new system, Xtra, uses the Promiseland Bible story of the day and reinforces it with activities and games using the central theme. In this way, your child will be learning the same ideas about God whether he/she is there for one hour or an extended part of the morning. All of this learning at any hour is interspersed with age-appropriate play, music, and more.
