— Fifth Sunday of Lent
No monopoly on HOLINESS If any truth should be obvious as the ocean, it is that no particular class or privileged group holds a monopoly on holiness. There has never been a caste system among the saints. In fact, only in the Communion of Saints is
there anything like communism that works. Shoulder to shoulder, in the usual democracy of sainthood, have walked: princes and paupers, doctors and dunces, bishops and barefooted children, mighty warriors and tillers of the soil. Only it would seem that the paupers and dunces, the barefooted and the meek have greatly outnumbered all the others. The meek have possessed the land — and the kingdom of Heaven, too! -Father Hyacinth Blocker, O.F.M.

A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar: Stoning is not just
an ancient act of violence. Each day in our homes we
throw stones of ridicule, criticism, name-calling, and
put-downs. All of it is deadly. Hear Jesus in today’s
Gospel: “Whoever is without sin can throw the first
stone.” Rid your home of violence. Stop verbal stoning!

John Paul II School News Robin Cahoy, Principal — 996-2365
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our
students, faculty, and families at John Paul II
for surpassing the Catholic United Financial
raffle ticket sales goal of $19,000. For meeting their goal of
$17,500, we celebrated with a movie and popcorn: and for meeting
the final goal, Mr. Gary Thury was dressed as a hot dog and was
squirted with ketchup and mustard. Our top selling class was 6L,
and Jace Larson was the top salesman. Congratulations!
I hope you can join us for a PTO Meeting on Monday,
March 14, in the faculty lounge of the school. We
will continue to discuss and make plans for “Bids for
Kids”, which is scheduled for May 6 at the Highland Mall.
It doesn’t seem possible, but the third quarter of school will end
on Friday, March 11. The report cards will go home with students
on Wednesday, March 16. Please be sure to check book bags.
Our fourth graders will be taking a trip to the
Davison County Fairgrounds for “Ag in the
Classroom” on March 15, and please say a special
prayer for our second grade students who will be
having their First Communion interviews with the priests this week.
The March FUNdraiser for John Paul II School will be held on
Tuesday, March 22, at Corona Village for the entire day. We hope
you get a chance to stop in for a great meal. This is
also our Easter Meal at the school. If you would
like to eat with a student, please call the office by March 16.
Our John Paul II Show Choir Joyful Noise will be
performing on Saturday, March 19, at the Mitchell
Classic and on Tuesday, March 29, at the MHS Show
Choir Dinner Theater! Please be sure to purchase
your tickets soon online or at the Corn Palace.
I would like to invite all graduating seniors from Mitchell High
School and Mitchell Christian High School who graduated
from John Paul II’s sixth grade and attended John Paul II
School for a minimum of three years, to apply for the
annual John Paul II PTO and the MFCE Marilyn Peschong
Memorial Scholarships. You can find them on the school website. There will be No School on March 17 and 18 for Spring Break.

Stewardship Reflection: In today’s second reading,
St. Paul says, “For His sake I have forfeited
everything; I have accounted all else rubbish
so that Christ may be my wealth.” Does my
stewardship suggest that I could say the same?
