Beloved,

How much does an elephant weigh? An African forest elephant can way 6,000 lbs. An Asian elephant can weigh 8,800 lbs. An African bush elephant can weigh 13,000 lbs. The elephant in the room that African Americans are still suffering from institutionalized, systematic racism that is deadly, pervasive and oppressive weighs enough to mercilessly snap the neck of its victims daily. These are facts and truth - no matter how inconvenient!

The concept of “the elephant in the room” is something we typically indulge in when we do not want to deal with something, despite it being obvious and/or inconvenient. It is not always that those in the room did not know the truth. Rather, it is often that dealing with the truth was considered too harmful, disruptive, painful and inconvenient. Often, the subject matter will simply be avoided altogether. Even worse, sometimes it is left to be deduced by others in the room, so that they can resolve and address it for themselves. Avoiding the truth rarely resolves anything; neither does it bring healing. We learn from 2nd Samuel 18:29-33, no one wanted to tell King David that his son, Absalom was dead, even though it was the truth. Instead, they talked around it with useless words of distraction and flattery - none of which told the real truth. Lord, help us to speak the simple truth!

Over the last week, once again, we have seen what happens when America does not address the inconvenient truth of its brutal brokenness. It has taken the killing of yet another son, Mr. George Floyd, and a universally grievous outrage to wake America up to that which is true. The truths that Black Lives Matter and that death, destruction, disrespect and disregard are the regular portions served to our community. I pray that as a result of our protests, marches, strategizing and speaking out America finally hears and acknowledges those inconvenient truths. Join me, and SPEAK YOUR TRUTH!!

With a Shepherd’s Love, Pastor Lacey

SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 2020 MORNING SCRIPTURE

2 TIMOTHY 4: 1-5 (NIV) 1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living

and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out

of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not

put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will

gather around them a number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and

turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure

hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

SERMONIC SCRIPTURE 2 SAMUEL 18:29-33 (NIV)

29 The king asked, “Is the young man Absalom safe?” Ahimaaz

anwered, “I saw great confusion just as Joab was about to send the king’s servant and me, your servant, but I don’t know what it was.” 30

The king said, “Stand aside and wait here.” So he stepped aside and stood there. 31 Then the Cushite arrived and said, “My lord the king,

hear the good news! The Lord has vindicated you today by

delivering you from the hand of all who rose up against you.” 32 The

king asked the Cushite, “Is the young man Absalom safe?” The

Cushite replied, “May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up to harm you be like that young man.” 33 The king was shaken.

He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went,

he said, “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you – O Absalom, my son, my son!”
