Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love.

Where there is injury, pardon.

Where there is doubt, faith.

Where there is despair, hope.

Where there is darkness, light.

Where this is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek to be

consoled,

as to console,

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.

It is pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Take up your cross and follow me

Every day we see crosses all around. People wear them as jewelry

and hang them on a wall. Is it just a piece of jewelry or a work of art?

What does the cross mean to you?

One day, Jesus asked his disciples "Who do people say that I am? "

The disciples answered, "Some say John the Baptist or one of the

prophets.” Jesus replied, “And you - who do you say that I am?"

Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Messiah."

Then Jesus called the crowd of people to join him.

"If any of you wants to be my follower,

you must turn from your selfish ways,

take up your cross, and follow me.

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.

But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it."

So, what does it mean to us? It means that those of us who want

to be his followers must also be willing to take up our cross,

give up everything, and follow him.

“Who do you say I am?...Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me.

Who do you say Jesus is? Will you follow him?

belong to Christ, will certainly not lose his reward.”
