Hello everyone,
Sadly, this is the lastedition of the CHEMUN
Chatter. I hope you guys
all enjoyed our expanded
newspaper, we do ourbest to bring you the
most interesting tidbits
from around theconference. Today I got
to walk around to each
committee, and I wasvery happy to say that I
was seeing some good
debate, and in particular,extensive amendment
discussions. It was really
nice to see this, mostly
because amendments are

the symbol of
cooperation and
constructive criticism.
Although too many
amendments can get
tiring after a while, it isalways better to have too
many versus too little.
Getting to eachcommittee in particular,
SPC was particularly
impressive. Even thoughI was only in the
committee for about five
minutes, I was reallyimpressed by the clarity
of the speakers, the
quality of debate, and the
adherence to procedure.

Day 3. Mid-morning.
General Assembly. Delegates
are debating hacking and theworld of cyberspace. The
smell of hardcore partying
still lingers in the air.For the average note
passer, its just another day inthe 9 to 5 job they do. As I
run back and forth deliveringuninteresting notes on
whether imprisoned hackers
should be used by the
government, I can only
entertain myself with
hopes that someone willuse the example of how
in Catch Me If YouCan, the government
used Leonardo DiCaprioto find fake checks. But
this instance of feelingsomewhat involved ineverything going on with
all the importantpeople in suits was not
the highlight of my day.Nor was being a GA note
passer caught in the
crossfire of ECOSOC and
SC.Yes, the best part of the day
ironically came from a note.
The delegate of Syria tookthe time to write a note to
the note passers saying,
You guys rock! Without
you, CHEMUN 5 would notbe possible. This is what
Im talkin about. It is thiskind of recognition thatmakes me feel good about
putting my black shirt on in
the morning. Frankly, Im
But I think thehighlight of the day
will be discussion on
the emergency topic.Hopefully this will
really elevate the level
of passion and energy
with which you havebeen debating,
because this is a crisisthat could actuallyhappen tomorrow and
would be dealt with
by the United Nations. It has been great to get
to know all of you,
hope you have had a
great time here atCHEMUN!
wondering why I
havent received moreof these notes. I just
want all you delegatesto imagine an MUN
without note passers. It
is like India without riceor Justin Bieber without
his hair.
So Id ask all of you toset aside a few minutesfrom your world issues,
heated debates, and
failed pick-up lines tothank your note passers
on this final day of
MUN!

Social NightBy Selin Harputlu
The social night was
definitely the highlight of
the MUN. The night was an
absolute success. It reallyhit everyones expectations.
There was great music with
one of the Chennais bestDJs. The food wasamazing and people were
lining up to get more and
more.
But lets not forget the
diversity. As soon, as the
people entered in the hotel a
magical wand touched
everyone on their shoulders
and made sure that
everyone just forgot about
the stress and the long
hours of debating and
started having fun. People
changed from formal
looking clothes like theirsuits and pencil skirts and
slipped into more casual but
chic clothes. Not only the
delegates and the chairs, but
even the teachers seemed to
enjoy it very much.
The social night started
with the hilarious x-files
and was followed by the
superlatives. Some people
were proud to be announces
as the best dressed whileothers were a little bit
ashamed to be chosen as the
most likely to use the
bathroom.
I can say that I had an
amazing time with my
friends and it was a great
time to get to know the newpeople better. It is really
funny how you can be
strangers one day but be
extremely close to them the
next. I think, for most of the
people that was the case.
They made friends that they
will never forget. So, that is
the actual purpose of MUN-
to have fun. It is all about
debating and making sure
that your resolution passes.
While you are doing that
you still socialize and meet
people
Everyone justforgot about
the long hoursof debatingand startedhaving fun
from all over the world.
You can get to know about
their cultures and the way
they live.
Even though, MUN is for
three days you leave with a
great pleasure and great
memories to remember.
You leave with experiences
that will help you in the
future and you will
definitely want to comeback next year to add onto
those memories

Emergency TopicBy Shweta Patwardhan
It was really fun to walkaround to each
committee and announce
our emergency topic. The crisis was that the
US had found solid
evidence tying thePakistani ISI to theTaliban, and in response,
had deployed para-
troopers to neutralize
Pakistans nuclearfacilities. Various
countries announced
their support of one sideor another, and we
anticipated that this
would generate muchdebate among
delegations from all over
the world, but
Interview with New DelegatesBy Megan and Nina
particularly in Eurasia. As we announced the
crisis, we got a mixed
reception from thevarious committees.
Security Council asked a
lot of irrelevantquestions (as it alwaysdoes), SPC was initially
a little confused but
figured out their anglesoon enough, EC did not
seem particularly
enthusiastic, ECOSOC
had a mixed reaction, and GA was very
interested in the
complexities of thesituation. But we loved
DISEC most of all, who
cheered at the
announcement of a crisis. As we write this, the
chaos of the emergency
topic unfolds around us;we can see the various
thought processes of each
delegate exploding inimaginary speech bubblesabove their heads. We are
look forward to vigorous
debate in all committees, regardless of the angle
each forum takes. But
most of all, we hope you
relished discussing acrisis that could actually
happen at any moment.
DISEC cheeredat the
announcementof a crisis
Its the last day of CHEMUN 5,
and so we caught about some ofthe delegates to talk about their
CHEMUN experience.Niina delegate of the Bahamas,(ECOSOC) said that she really
enjoyed CHEMUN and the best
part was messing with theNotepassers with countries that
do not exist (LOL nice one!),
and of course meeting new
people. She though Social Nighthad lots of good food and
dancing, and wishes she could
come next year, but sadly shecant as she is graduating! Thepart about CHEMUN that she
didnt like was the fact that there
was too little debate, but she
enjoyed reading the CHEMUNChatter! Then we talked to
Shivangi delegate of Russia(EC). She has had fun at
CHEMUN she says, and the
best part was the Social becauseit was nothing like she expected,
and it was loads of fun. She says
that she would definitely comeback next year (even though thesessions were a little boring) and
she really liked the CHEMUN
newspaper!Next we talked to Desiree,
delegate of Philippines (SP) and
she says she has definitelyenjoyed CHEMUN this
weekend. The best part was the
Social, and she would probably
do CHEMUN again next yearbut the debates were too long.
On the bright side, she said she
said she enjoyed the CHEMUN
Chatter! Afterwards, we talkedto Jerry, delegate of Slovakia
(DISEC), and he says he has
definitely been enjoying thisweekend. The best part was
Social Night because it was fun
meeting new people, and he
wishes that he could come nextyear but he is graduating. There
was nothing really bad aboutCHEMUN, except maybe thelong sessions, but he liked the
newspaper!
Then we talked to Rohit, delegate of Zimbabwe (GA) and
he thought the best part was the
Social Night, because it was funwith all the dancing. There was
nothing bad about CHEMUN,
and he would like to come again
next year!Venkat, delegate of Russia (SC)
said that hes been enjoying theweekend, and the best part was
the Social, especially the food.
Hed like to come next year, but
next time hed like to get more
Chicken nuggets for lunch!

Would you like me to sing you a lullaby?? Trust me I am so good at singing that people
cry when I sing because it is so good.

Today, SPC was discussing
honor killing. There wasanother change of seating
which made the Delegate ofVietnam slightly confused asshed been pushed to the lastrow. The Delegate of Syria,
also seated at the back, had
to answer her phone while anamendment was being
discussed. Many delegates
walked in late. The chairs
claimed to have danced with
many, super hot delegates
from their committee andothers. Besides this, we feltthat the chairs did a
marvelous job of letting
those delegates who barelyspoke yesterday, voice their
views today.
Next, we visited EC, whereinstead of debating about
fisheries like yesterday,
(ohthankgod!!) they seemedto be debating a resolution
about how armed conflicts
degrade the environment.
Many delegates seemed to bereluctant to participate and
we felt, a Point of
Entertainment was muchneeded. However, this was
later abated by a really
motivating speech made by
the Delegates of Cuba andEcuador, and this seemed to
revive the debate.
We noticed that the delegates
in DISEC were dressed a
little bit more casual thanyesterday, but this did not
seem to affect the quality of
debate. In fact, they wereusing so many technical
terms, that we could barelyunderstand anything. Therewas so much MUN jargon
involved. On a completely
different note, the delegate of
Russia wore really coolglasses.
In GA, the lady chair looked
really pretty in her green sari.
They were discussingcyberspace crime and we
wonder if the Delegate ofArgentina had anything tocontribute (besides his
declaration that, Argentina
has internet). We stayed to
listen to Mexicos veryentertaining story about his
hacker friendand admire
Haitis flippy hair. We alsocaught the delegate of France
texting and Belgium playing
Fruit Ninja (AGAIN?!).
UK, China and India were
most interested in taking overECOSOC- UK even asked for
confetti cannons! Afterhearing all this talk, we gotworried and decided to run to
ECOSOC before it stopped
existing!
We reached ECOSOC in thenick of time. They were
discussing primary healthcare
measures, but ironically,
many delegates felt sick (lastnights effect, eh?) For some
reason, France seemed quitehyper today. The SC thendropped by to scare them
before their 5 minute break.
There was heated argumentbetween the two committees
as to which was better and
which should be scrapped.
But, at the end, everyonemade up and things went back
to normal. After all, isnt the
UN all about setting asidedifferences and learning to
accept each other?
So, to sum it up, last nights
social gave all the delegates amuch needed boost of energy
and everyone loved it. A few
delegates even told us that thedesserts last night reminded
them of an episode from
Masterchef. Kudos to the
Organizing Committee, forsetting up such an awesome
Model UN. It was the right
mix between fun and debate!
Though the Security Council
had no cookies for us to snag,
they had the element of fun! Alldelegates had their laptops open
and were talking about
dissolving DISEC or ECOSOC(with gleeful smirks). While one
delegate was unenthusiastic; the
rest did seem interested in
finishing debate on the topic. However, the Delegates of

Girl with the Blue ScarfTo what extent will you suffer from post-CHEMUN depression?By Harshini Krishnan
Dear GWTBS,
I just want to start out by saying, Im a big fan. So now, Im hoping that you will be able tosolve a problem that no one else has/can. For the past two days, this other delegate and I have
been talking a lot. He doesnt live in the same country as I do, but Ive liked having him
around. Last night, during the social, we spent a lot of time together, and I feel like were
closer friends than any of the other people I regularly go to school with. I know it all soundsgood so far, but the problem is that todays the last day. After this, there is very little chance
that we will ever meet again. I cant help but feel super depressed. What should I do?
Sincerely, Lost in Love
Dear Lost in Love,
Aw, thanks for saying youre a fan, but then again, why wouldnt you be? Im awesome.
Getting back to your actual problem, dont worry, you are definitely not alone. Im sureseveral other delegates, both male and female, have been feeling the same way. First,
dont be depressed. You had 3 amazing days of building a new friendship. Thats not a
situation that comes around very often. Second, I dont know if youve been living undera rock, but we now have this amazing tool called Skype (and Facebook). You guys will
probably end up talking all the time, and if you dont, then it wasnt meant to be.Sometimes, its okay just to have one magnificent weekend. Just make sure it ends
perfectly. ;)Loads of Love, GWTBS

will sincerely miss.2. You have just gotten home and have found your CHEMUN identity card, your reaction
is:
a. Whatever, you put the card in the trash along with past resolutions and theguidebook, and then head out.
b. Once again, indifferent, you place the card with the other ones from the otherconferences youve been to.
c. Sad, you tear up and refuse to stop crying till your mother lures you out with aSnickers bar.
3. Your school has exams planned during CHEMUN time next year, your reaction is:a. Priceless, youd rather take two weeks of exams than heading to another Model
United Nations Conference.
b. Doesnt matter. Youre just annoyed that now you have exams to study for.c. Heartbreaking, you wouldnt miss CHEMUN for the world!
4. This is your last year at CHEMUN, your reaction is:a. Fine, in fact slightly happy. You are tired of Model United Nations Conferences,
they are incredibly time consuming, and not your game!
b. You dont have one. Better things come along, like a new MUN conference soon!c. Really unhappy, CHEMUN is one of the most awesome events of the year.
Results:If you picked mostly As
Youre not the Model United Nations type! CHEMUN was an awesome and newexperience, but MUN is not for you. Youd rather do something that falls into your
hobbies. Therefore, youre not going to suffer from PCD at all! Lets go party!
If you picked mostly Bs
Youre the average MUNer. Youve been to quite a few MUN conferences, andeach seem the same to you. You like MUN, but are not emotionally affiliated to any
one conference in particular. Youre level of PCD? Around 3-4 on a scale of 1-10.
If you picked mostly Cs.Youre a CHEMUN geek. You love everything about the conference, the people, the
food, and even the school. Youre excited when it starts and hate when it ends. Yourlevel of PCD? Around 8-9 on the same scale.
Ifyou had a mixture of As, Bs, and Cs
Youre confused, it was great and youll miss it, but you know you can move on.
After all, its just an MUN conference? Your level of PCD, between 5-7.
