PRELUDE BY PRAISE TEAM Gentle Shepherd
ANNOUNCEMENTS
SILENT PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
WE WORSHIP THE LORD WITH SINGING
GATHERING HYMN Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow'rs before Thee, Opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day!
All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heav'n reflect Thy
rays.
Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flowery meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird and flowing fountain, Call us to rejoice in Thee!
Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother-- All who live in love are Thine.
Teach us how to love each other; Lift us to the joy divine!
Mortals, join the mighty chorus which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o'er us, Brother love binds man to man.
Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife.
Joyful music leads us sunward in the triumph song of life!

HYMN OF THE DAY Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us
4
WE WORSHIP THE LORD BY LISTENING TO HIS WORD
FIRST READING: Acts 4:5-12
Peter and John had been arrested the previous day because they were
proclaiming the news of the resurrection to the people. In today’s
reading, Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit so that he is able to proclaim
salvation in Jesus’ name to the religious authorities. 5The next day [the] rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem, 6with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who
were of the high-priestly family. 7When they had made the prisoners
stand in their midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did
you do this?” 8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them,
“Rulers of the people and elders, 9if we are questioned today because of
a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man
has been healed, 10let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of
Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from
the dead. 11This Jesus is
‘the stone that was rejected by you, the builders;
it has become the cornerstone.’ 12There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under
heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.”
A: The word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
5
SECOND READING: 1 John 3:16-24
Jesus’ death on our behalf is the clearest demonstration of divine love.
This is the very love we share with others, not just through our words
but especially through our deeds. In sharing such love we fulfill God’s
commandments. 16We know love by this, that [Jesus Christ] laid down his life for us—
and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. 17How does God’s
love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or
sister in need and yet refuses help?
18Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and
action. 19And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will
reassure our hearts before him 20whenever our hearts condemn us; for
God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21Beloved, if
our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; 22and we
receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments
and do what pleases him.
23And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name
of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded
us. 24All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in
them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has
given us.
A: The word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Lord, Let My Heart Be Good Soil
7
GOSPEL: John 10:11-18
P: The Holy Gospel according to JOHN, the 10TH chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
In language that recalls the twenty-third psalm, Jesus describes himself
as the shepherd who cares for his sheep. He is willing to die for them,
and he is able to overcome death for them.
[Jesus said:] 11“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down
his life for the sheep. 12The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does
not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs
away—and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13The hired hand
runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. 14I am the
good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15just as the
Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the
sheep. 16I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring
them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock,
one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down
my life in order to take it up again. 18No one takes it from me, but I lay it
down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power
to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.”
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION
A: Rejoicing in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we
pray for the witness of the church, the wholeness of creation, and
all who are in need.
Brief Silence
A: Bless all who shepherd your sheep and guide them in their serving.
We pray for church custodians, office managers, Sunday school
teachers, confirmation leaders, baptismal sponsors, deacons,
pastors, youth workers, and bishops. Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
A: Restore natural environments damaged by our hands. We pray for
river valleys and grassy plains, coral reefs and arctic ice,
mountains, deserts, and marshlands. Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
A: Protect and guide first responders. Bring mercy and justice with
their presence. We pray for military personnel, firefighters,
paramedics, and police officers, and for disaster relief and crisis
intervention teams. Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
A: Heal and renew all who ache for a better tomorrow. We pray for
the unemployed and underemployed, the forgotten, the nameless,
and the outcasts; for our enemies; and for our loved ones. Lord, in
your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
A: Give to all who are restless, reckless, or uncertain the peace you
promise that is deeper and richer than anything we can imagine.
We pray for all who live with chronic pain, who live with anxiety,
and who are ill or hospitalized (especially, Rich Sendelweck, John
Harder, Jay Harker, and for Christians and all individuals who
suffer from persecution). Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
A: Nourish us with the testimony of all the disciples who have gone
before us. We give thanks for the faithful departed and their
witness in every age. Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.

the power of the Holy Spirit and the love of your Son, Jesus Christ
our Lord.

C: And also with you.
WE WORSHIP THE LORD BY GIVING

OFFERTORY As the Grains of Wheat
10
OFFERTORY PRAYER
P: Let us pray.
Blessed are you,
C: O Lord our God, maker of all things. Through your goodness
you have blessed us with these gifts. With them we offer
ourselves to your service and dedicate our lives to the care and
redemption of all that you have made, for the sake of him who
gave himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
WE WORSHIP THE LORD BY RECEIVING THE LORD'S SUPPER
BRIEF ORDER FOR CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
P: In the name of the Father,
and of the ☩ Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
P: God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people,
turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of
your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your
forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior
and Lord.
C: Amen.
P: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
Brief Silence
Gracious God,
C: have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you
and given ourselves into the power of sin. We are truly sorry
and humbly repent. In your compassion forgive us our sins,
known and unknown, things we have done and things we have
failed to do. Turn us again to you, and uphold us by your
Spirit, so that we may live and serve you in newness of life
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
11
P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us,
and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and
ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I
therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in
the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
FAITH STATEMENT
We believe in God above us,
maker and sustainer of all life,
of sun and moon,
of water and earth,
of male and female.
We believe in God beside us,
Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh,
born of a woman’s womb,
servant of the poor.
He was tortured and nailed to a tree.
A man of sorrows, he died forsaken.
He descended into the earth to the place of death.
On the third day he rose from the tomb.
He ascended into heaven to be everywhere present,
and his kingdom will come on earth.
We believe in God within us,
the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire,
life-giving breath of the Church,
spirit of healing and forgiveness,
source of resurrection and of life everlasting.
Amen.
12
WORD OF INSTITUTION
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
LORD’S PRAYER
P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

WELCOME VISITORS: We welcome you to St. John’s Lutheran
Church and we hope that you will enjoy our worship to God. Please
take time to fill out a “St. John’s Ministry Notes” card that is located in
the bulletin. Once you have filled that card out please place it in the
offering plate. We hope that you will consider making St John’s your
worshiping community.
NURSERY: St. John's loves having children in church, but we want
parents to know that we do have an unmanned nursery available
downstairs in our Education Wing if needed. The nursery is wired for
sound so you can still participate in the service. Take the ramp
downstairs which is located next to the upstairs restroom. The nursery is
located on the left-hand side of the long hallway four doors down.
HEARING DEVICES: St. John's offers "Hearing Devices" to
individuals who need them. They are located in a basket in the
Narthex. They have been updated and are ready to be used. The
batteries are not in the device but are in the basket and need to be
installed to use. If you wear a hearing aid you will need to remove it and
put the ear bud directly into your ear. You are welcomed to bring your
own ear buds. If you have any questions or need any help contact Linus
Mann at 812-351-0612. Our Pastor uses a microphone but sometimes
extra help is needed to help enhance your worship experience.
16
HANDICAP SEATING: The church council asks that you please
remember to reserve the shortened seating in the middle of the sanctuary
for those who need them. Thank you.
