The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Courtyard occupies a key location in the heart of Vancouver’s Chinatown, serving as a main access point to two important institutions: the Chinese Cultural Centre and Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden.
The Vancouver Park Board is developing a gate design plan for the courtyard to address safety concerns and minimize unwanted activity at night.

The current design of the courtyard leaves corners that are hidden from view while the building provides cover from rain making the area a target for undesirable activities. Stakeholders and residents have raised concerns about public safety in this area. The courtyard is also subject to vandalism, open fires, and other criminal activities.
The Vancouver Park Board recognises the value of this unique cultural space and is reviewing options to make the space safer and to better support on-going programming and cultural events. Aside from reviewing existing use patterns, lighting, and blind corners, the Park Board is reviewing options to close the area at night in order to address crime and vandalism.

The Vancouver Park Board is exploring ways in which the addition of gates will make the courtyard a safer place and support herirtage programming. As part of a trial to activate the space, the City of Vancouver and community partners organized a series of cultural events in the summer of 2018 that successfully showcased the courtyard’s potential.
溫哥華公園局現正考慮不同的安裝門柵方案，以期改善庭院的保安和支持該處的古跡保育計劃。為試行活化庭院，溫市政府和社區伙伴在2018年夏季以該處作場地，舉辦連串文娛活動，成功體現了庭院的潛在價值。
