Dear Parents, ‘( ב,ג“)כ“ ויקח את שני נעריו אתו”
Avraham Avinu took his two young ones with him to the עקידה. Who were the two young ones? Rashi explains it was referring to Yishmael and Eliezer. He further explains that an אדם חשוב, an important person should travel with two people accompanying him. The שופרא דישראל asks: Did Avraham consider himself an אדם חשוב? He elaborates that as a result of his thinking of himself as an אדם חשוב, it says וירא את המקום מרחוק, he saw the place from afar. The simple explanation is that it refers to the place ( ה-הר המורי ) but we can also interpret המקום as referring to ה“הקב having distanced Himself from Avraham for acting as if he was an אדם חשוב! Avraham understood the mussar and told the young ones:
שבו לכם פה עם החמור,“ “. , ואני והנער )יצחק( נלכה
“Stay here with the donkey, while Yitzchak and I will go”, ונשתחוה“ ”, “with humility”, “ונשובה אליכם” “and I will do teshuva for having considered myself as an אדם חשוב”
.)דרך דרש ומוסר(
In truth, we know that Avraham was extremely humble, as he had said “אנכי עפר ואפר “. How then can it be that
he considered himself an אדם חשוב? To answer this question, we need to ask another question. Why did Avraham need to take two נערים along, if he had Yitzchak with him too? All he needed was one more person to accompany him. Obviously, Yitzchak didn’t count, since Avraham didn’t plan on returning with Yitzchak from the עקידה. Avraham knew that the שטן would claim that he went with the intention of bringing a קרבן in place of Yitzchak. To make it clear that he went with the knowledge that he was going to שחט his son, he took two people in addition to his son. In reality, Avraham was not acting like he was an אדם חשוב, but was actually proclaiming, indisputably, that he was doing the רצון ה‘ and bringing Yitzchak for the עקידה. We can see the greatness of our avos from here and hope that we learn from their sincere desire to do the will of Hashem. Have a wonderful Shabbos! Rabbi Berel Leiner, Menahel

Mrs. Pollack joins YBH as the middle school boys Language Arts teacher. She has many years experience teaching both English and history at the high school and middle school levels. Some of the schools she has taught at are Bruriah, TABC and Yavneh. Mrs. Pollack brings her enthusiasm and love for literature and the craft of writing to the classroom, where she encourages her students to write as much as possible. As a result, there is an increased level of independent reading and oral presentations in her classes.
This is Ms. Benatar’s third year teaching and she is very excited to join YBH as a third grade boys’ General Studies teacher. She has a Masters degree in Education and Special Education & is currently working towards her BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). As an educator, she believes that establishing a positive classroom environ-ment is critical to the success of every student. Her classroom is one in which student engagement in learning is essen-tial. When students feel connected and interested in what they are learning, they will pay attention and challenge themselves to grow and progress. She believes that eve-ry child has a right to learn in a way that suits their learning style and particular needs.
Ms. Korissa Benaroya (4B General Studies) is honored to be a part of the YBH family. She comes to us with over 12 years of teaching experience in Jewish and private Day Schools in Bergen County. She holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Fairleigh Dickinson University and completed the AviChai New Jewish Teacher mentoring program. With her love of educating young minds, Ms. Benaroya brings a positive, energizing attitude to the students in her classroom. She lives in Englewood with her family and her son, who attends TABC. Mr. Ira Buckman is in his second year teaching at YBH. Last year, he was a small group specialty teacher and now teaches math in several grades, including middle school. After many years as a computer programmer, he shifted careers to teaching Math and English, which he also teaches at the Mesivta of Clifton. He has an eclectic range of interests: feature-film screenwriter, video producer, Jewish music club producer, app creator and dance enthusiast. Born and bred in Brooklyn, he has lived in Teaneck for many years and hopes to make aliyah in the future to join two of his three sons in the Holy Land.

LAST CHANCE TO ENTER! Regency Nursing Homes is sponsoring a community wide $25,000 student
scholarship contest (to be awarded to multiple winners) to celebrate their 25th year anniversary. They are seeking a video featuring a senior in your child's life, lasting a maximum of 5 minutes, to be submitted by the end of this month. The video can be funny, heartwarming, inspiring, informative, insightful, or all of the above. Family members may be enlisted to help, though they aren’t specifically
looking for a professionally developed video. (A parent being a videographer does not disqualify a student from the contest.)
Please see details on the attached flyer.
Please encourage your children to exercise their creativity while honoring a senior in your family.
You may be awarded a scholarship as an added bonus!
Please note: This contest IS open to all YBH students residing in Clifton, Passaic or anywhere else, despite limitations stated on the flyer.

A Peek Into Our Week A Peek Into Our Week:
Ms. Benaroya’s Fourth Grade Class: The boys of 4B have begun an exciting unit in science. We visited with Rabbi Wieder in the science lab and learned about the Scientific Method. The first step was to ask a question. The examples that Rabbi Wieder gave were funny, like “How can I stop my bananas from getting mushy?” We also learned a new science term: hypothesis. We practiced how to create and formulate an “If/then” statement. The boys were then assigned the task of creating their own experiment in order to observe the question and hypothesis. We will keep you posted on our conclusions once we complete gathering the data! Mrs. Ebstein’s Second Grade Class: Our class is in full swing and busy with hands-on learning. We are working in small groups with leveled readers that appropriately challenge each boy on his level. The boys rotate centers, so in addition to reading they all have the opportunity to do various activi-ties that target a spelling, phonics, or grammar skill. In math, the boys have been working with cubes to develop a concrete understanding of place value. We had the opportunity to go to the computer lab last week and practice our new math skills using various games. Rabbi Finkel’s Kitah Hey: Fifth grade is a very exciting year because it’s the year that we start learning Gemara. We are already more than halfway through mish-nayos Megilla, after which we will start learning Gemara. The whole class is looking forward to and is excited for this momentous occasion. It was very interesting when rebbe brought in real parchment, ink and mezuzos for us to examine when we were learning the mishna in Megilla about writing a sefer Torah and mezuzos. In Chumash, we are becoming experts in the intricate laws of Parshas Mishpatim. The hallway near our classroom is decorated with beautiful artwork depicting many scenes of the first three perakim of sefer Shmuel Aleph.

ECD HIGHLIGHTS
Math Games In Pre 1A M math, we are learning about patterns.
The children have been able to discern both visual and auditory patterns. They have observed patterns on cloth-ing and around our room, in nature with its leaf patterns, in behavior and just about anywhere. The children creat-ed their own pictures with patterns. We have a selection
of games that support our math lessons; the children made patterned stacks of Lincoln logs, beads, numbers, keys and aquatic animals. There is certainly a pattern of educational and wonderful behavior on the part of our
Pre 1A children!
Ms. Benatar’s Third grade Class: We are working on writing descriptive paragraphs using our five senses. The boys had fun tasting popcorn and writing about the taste, feel, sound and appearance of popcorn. In science, we
are learning all about plants. We enjoyed opening up a bean to find the seedling. Mr. Buckman’s Math Classes: Out of the box. That’s how I like to teach math to my 5th, 7th
& 8th grade classes. How much money will you have after a month if you put a penny in your piggy bank on the first day and then double that amount each day? (Answer: over $10 million). Let’s compare, order and round the fortunes of the ten richest people in the world. Let’s calculate the winning margin of Usain Bolt over his competitors in the 100 meter fi-nals of the 2008 Olympics, when he shattered the world rec-ord. The objective of each class is to solidify skills the students have already learned and to explore new territory. Along the way I plan to share stories of the brilliant mathematicians who have made great discoveries over the years. My favorite is the history of the solution to Fermat’s Last Theorem!
The first grade boys were rewarded for completing their summer kriah home-work with a yummy ice cream party.
