I missed the Sudoku puzzle in the September Breeze…. Perhaps we can have a variety of puzzles. ---Ruth Scarson
Thanks, Ruth. Good question, but sorry, we have no control over the puzzles. This company prints magazines for a number of mobile home parks (at no cost to us). The puzzle page, the covers, and all the advertising is provided by them.

OCTOBER MESSAGE FROM RESIDENTS’CLUB PRESIDENT RICHARD STOLL
The Board had a rough start, but we are back on track. Robert Sanborn is
the new Board Member at large. He was voted in at the last Board meeting. He
helped at the September breakfast that served over 100 people.
After breakfast, residents interested stayed to recommend the events for
January to July 2019. We have old favorites, plus a couple of new ones. The list of
events is on the web-site (the-tropics.net). The Board is excited about the events
for the year: lots of dancing and entertainment.
The Tropics Mobile Home Park has a ―No Soliciting‖ Policy. Therefore, you
should have NO ONE coming to your door without an invitation. We have been
having people coming around with scams to rip-off our Residents. The BEST way
to eliminate these people is to NOT ANSWER the door, call the office, even at
night and on week-ends. The answering service will take a message. We must all
watch out for each other.
We have an exciting event this month! Richard Oyen, not a resident, but
whose mother always wanted to live in the Tropics, is honoring her with a FREE
Jazz Band on October 27. You will need a ticket at no cost. Food can be purchased
at the Snack Bar. Watch for details.
The Board is not having a Halloween Dinner this year. If you want to get
dressed up, Bingo is having a Halloween Bingo Night. If you come in costume your
first pack is free. Prizes for the top four costumes will be awarded. The Snack Bar
is featuring spooky items. Watch for the Menu!
The Board also voted to have a Holiday Flea
Market on November 3. Look for a flyer in the Breeze.
Ruth, chairperson, is hoping the Flea Market items will
be toward Christmas gifts or decorations. Have fun
with it, and re-gift to help you buy new items for
Christmas.
Until next month have a great fall and keep
coming up with your ideas for the new Board!

MILLENNIUM MEMO
Let’s say you’ve got a large, bulky item you’d like to get rid of. What’s your next
move? Do you take advantage of the City’s FREE large/bulky item pickup service?
You get 2 of those per year, after all.
No, you decide, dialing the phone is so much work. It’s far easier to just drag your
unwanted furniture or other items out to the street and leave it there. It’s an at-
tractive adornment to your homesite and if it sits there long enough, maybe Park
Maintenance will take it away.
That must be how some residents think. Not very neighborly, not very kind to
the Park’s maintenance staff, but apparently this is becoming The Tropics’ latest
resident concern.
According to the City’s website, you can call (510) 657-3500 and schedule your
personal bulky item pickup—and you can do this FREE 2 times each year. Why not
go that route and give your hard-working staff a break. They’re busy enough al-
ready!
While we’re at it, we also ask that you please stop leaving food and water out for
our resident raccoons, skunks, rats and other pests. Notice I said ―please?‖ You’re
only attracting more vermin to our fair Community.
In Other News…
We’re very happy to announce that Nicki has returned from her Maternity
Leave and is back at her post as SPARC’s Director of Resident Services. She
and Stacee are working on several exciting projects for the Fall, so Stay
Tuned!
An Alert Reader, commenting on last month’s Memo, emailed me saying that
he can’t give The Tropics 5 stars until the Pathway Lighting is improved.
I would have hoped that having rents about $1,000 under market would
make up for a few broken lights, but we’re on it. It’s an ongoing problem, but
we spend money on the Pathway every month. This past month’s focus was
on broken wiring, for example.
Did you notice the attractive new garden your Staff created by the Green
Waste Dumpster? Not only are we hoping this adds a little beauty, but also
that this deters some of our ruder residents from leaving their garbage or
furniture there. Great idea, team!

Scary Election Thought
Union City has a big election coming up on Nov. 6. Eight candidates are running
for three Council seats, there are all sorts of propositions, we’re electing a new
Governor…
For those of you tempted to sit this one out…I was reminded recently that the
Mayor in the movie ―Jaws‖ is still the Mayor in Jaws 2. Scary, isn’t it? Does that
convince you of the importance of casting your vote?

Manager’s Corner for October 2018 Ghosts, Goblins, Black Cats – Pumpkins. Fall is here. It will be getting dark earlier so be careful when out for your walk. Some residents and guests are not complying with the 15 MPH speed limit. You would think we have a race track by the freeway wall and driving in to the Park off Almaden. Please be more cautious and don’t run over your neighbors. A big “thank you” to all the volunteers that help with Food Bank. We had guests observe the last one held to see just how it worked and they were really impressed with all the team work. Thanks again volunteers and residents - Good job. The annual physical inspection of homesites is scheduled for this month and all residents are being asked to have their landscaping free of weeds and clutter. Please advise the office if you have changed your phone number as we call to advise you regarding water and utility outages as well as miscellaneous issues. We have received some complaints that some residents are placing their trash in their neighbor’s trash and recycle cans. Please ask before doing this and they will probably say it is okay. Time to fire up the broom and check for ghosts and goblins. As always, thank you for all you do to keep our community a fun and safe place to live. Nancy Payne Resident Manager
Would you help The Breeze? Pretty please!?
Yes, thank you. So many nice people help deliver The Tropics Breeze. They give
perhaps twenty minutes of their time, just once a month, so you are able to read this,
and keep up with the many events in our Park.
But we need more of you! At the moment we are looking for a Delivery Hero living on
or near Panama or Makaha Circles to deliver on those streets. Could you help? If so,
please call your Editor, Michael, at 265-4091.

A Word from Your Editor The world is spinning, spinning, spinning, Spinning like a top. My head is dizzy, dizzy, dizzy. Someone make it stop! Does anyone feel as I do?! As I grow older—well, really old—I see the years not on-ly going faster, but going crazier, too: REALLY crazy! But my suspicion is that sen-iors have always felt this way, as they look at their memories, and their knick-knacks, and contemplate those Young People, with their Young Ways, taking over. They're gonna do that, though, even if we learn to use Snapchat, and grow to like Rap!
Maybe we could all benefit from a time out, a chance to take a long, slow look back, a look at the tried-and-true ways that have brought us safely through the years, and into The Tropics.
We all have our personal strengths: our families, our faith, our principles. Hold on-to these!
But I'm thinking now of our Nation, the one into which we were born, or into which, for whatever reason, we came. I can remember a day, a day before things seemed so crazy, when being Conservative signaled a desire to conserve the good things we had. And Liberal meant one was open to new ideas. Now these labels are but cudgels—the heavy sticks Robin Hood fought with—to beat our opponents on their heads!
In the spirit of looking back at the tried-and-true, I can do no better than to revisit the bedrock of our American Principles—which we met in grammar school, or per-haps in the immigration process—the First Amendment to the United States Consti-tution.
I think it well worth a look. You will find it, unedited, on another page of this Breeze.
Live well, and love!

Editor’s note, on Freedom of the Press:
When the United States Constitution took effect in 1879, it was pointed out that it
did not specifically guarantee the people’s rights. In response, the first Ten
Amendments were added. Note that ―Congress‖ is specified. That is because it is
Congress that makes laws. But it is now clearly accepted that the First Amendment’s
rights cannot be violated or limited by any part of any level of government: national,
state, county or city.
The First Amendment to our Constitution:
CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING THE ESTAB-
LISHMENT OF RELIGION, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE
THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE
PRESS, OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE,
AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF

FRIDAY OCT 5Th WINCHESTER
The most haunted house in the world sits on an isolated stretch of land that's 50 miles outside of San Francisco. Built by Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester fortune, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To an outsider, it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman's madness. But Sarah's actually building a prison, an asylum for hun-dreds of vengeful ghosts -- and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters.
FRIDAY OCT 12Th A WRINKLE IN TIME A Wrinkle in Time is a 2018 American science fantasy adventure film directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Jennifer Lee and Jeff Stockwell, based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Madeleine L'Engle.
FRIDAY OCT 19Th COCO
In Disney Pixar's vibrant tale of family, fun and adventure, an aspiring young musician named Miguel embarks on an extraordinary journey to the magical land of his ancestors. There, the charming trickster Héctor becomes an unex-pected friend who helps Miguel uncover the mysteries behind his family's sto-ries and traditions.
FRIDAY OCT 26th THE PRINCESS AND THE PIRATE
1944 NR Rated NR1hr 15m Wise-cracking comedian Bob Hope stars as an egotistical vaudevillian who is shanghaied by pirates, gets involved with a lovely princess (Virginia Mayo) and becomes the make-shift leader of a band of cutthroats in this hilarious send-up of swashbuckling. Hope is at his zaniest as the wackiest buccaneer of all. Walter Brennan co-stars as yet another crazy pirate in producer Samuel Goldwyn's lavish Technicolor production.

WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR OWNERS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND
CLEAN UP AFTER THEIR PETS? I WALK MY DOG EVERY DAY. I OFFER BAGS
TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS THEM. OWNERS STARE AT ME LIKE I'M CRAZY.
WE HAVE BAG DISPENSERS WITH DISPOSAL CONTAINERS ATTACHED SCAT-

STILL SEE POOP EVERYWHERE. THERE HAS EVEN BEEN POOP RIGHT IN

PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE !
CLEANING UP AFTER YOUR PET IS EVERY BIT A PART OF OWNING ONE. A
PET OF ANY KIND REQUIRES DAILY MAINTANENCE. CLEANING CAGES,
FEEDING THEM, PROVIDING FRESH WATER AND REGULAR VETERINARY

WELL, THIS IS MY HOME AND I DON'T LIKE YOU LEAVING YOUR PETS'

AND FINALLY, IT IS UNSANITARY. IT DRAWS FLIES AND BREEDS DISEASE.
AND QUITE FRANKLY, IT STINKS !
