ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE

Thank you to all the parents that attended our Conferences/Demo of Learning. The staff take great pride to ensure that your child(ren) receive(s) a great education and appreciated.

During Advent, we read in the Bible about God’s promise to send a great Light in the darkness, to give sight to the blind, to fill us with comfort and hope. Advent is a time of quiet, joyful preparation for the celebration of Jesus’ birth and also a time to remember that we wait for Christ to come again at the end of time. Please join us Thursday, December 7th at 6pm at St. Dominic Savio Church to celebrate Advent together.

May the peace of the Christ child touch each of your hearts over this Christmas season and may you enjoy good health and happiness in 2018!

SCHOOL COUNCIL

The new City of Edmonton Idling Bylaw has been in effect as of January 1, 2013. The bylaw prevents vehicles from idling in designated areas near schools and hospitals.

The bylaw only applies when the temperatures rise above zero degrees Celsius. Drivers cannot idle for more than three minutes within any 30-minute period when parked in an area designated as no idling.

Bylaw exemptions apply to vehicles licensed to provide public transport, such as, school buses, taxis, emergency vehi-cles and vehicles transporting medically fragile people.

CITY OF EDMONTON IDLING BYLAW

INCLEMENT WEATHER GUIDELINE

Inclement Weather Guideline Admin Reg. 128.1 The suggested guideline is students do not go outside if the temperature is -20◦C or colder, or if the temperature and wind chill factor are -20◦C or colder. Each school should have procedures in place to be used during inclement weather. a. Please check the district web site www.ecsd.net home page for the current Environment Canada weather. You may also choose to phone Environment Canada at (780) 468-4940 (English) or (780) 495-2145 (French). b. Devise a signal for informing students who arrive at school prior to the entry bell as to whether or not they may enter the school. On the front door , if the sign is red it means the students may not enter the school until the first bell and if the sign is green, the front doors will be unlocked @ 8:15 am. c. Students are to re-enter the school at the end of the day if they miss their bus, a sibling forgets to meet the student etc.

STAY ADVISOR NEWS

My Name is Rick Cole. I am a retired Edmonton City Police Officer who currently serves as the STAY Advisor at Christ the King School. Part of my role at the school is to help with traffic flow to ensure the safety of all our students.

The vehicle traffic near the school, during morning drop off and after school pick up, is a concern in the following areas:

Vehicles attempting to go west to east (the parking lot and bus lanes are all one ways with travel from east to west) Vehicles making U-turns in the middle of the street Vehicles traveling too fast and being discourteous to each other Vehicles double parking and drivers simply abandoning their vehicle in the middle of a travel lane

Please help to keep all our students safe by following these simple steps:

If you are stopping, please pull out of the driving lane. If you are exiting your vehicle at any time, even for a minute, please use the parking lot. (parking to walk you child

to the door is still parking). There are over 600 students and parents attempting to use the same spot at the same time, so please slow down and

be courteous. Please do not drive in the bus lane as if it were a traffic lane. You may continue to drop students off in this lane, but

do not drive forward in this lane, as it is a service lane specifically for busses. Please treat the merge lane on the west end of the parking lot as a four way stop. Allow alternating vehicles to go.

I am in the process of developing a plan for the safer delivery of all students to and from the school. Please stay tuned for any updates.

Thank you for your help in keeping all students at Christ the King school safe.
