Summit Seniors Helping Seniors Gives Campaign

Due to the uncertainty of the times in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and in interest of the health of all, we have decided NOT to hold the annual rummage sale this year. We appreciate your involvement in the past and look forward to seeing you next year. In lieu of the rummage sale, we are holding a Summit Seniors Helping Seniors Gives Campaign. We are requesting that you make a monetary donation to Summit County Senior Citizens, Inc. on Thursday, August 6th. This would have been the first day of the Annual Rummage Sale. Donations can be made in person at the Senior Center, by mail, or preferably on-line at https://summit-seniors.org The rummage sale is the largest fund raiser for Summit Seniors, and normally raises over $40,000 a year. We are setting a lofty goal of raising at least $25,000 for our campaign. All donations, just like the monies raised by our Rummage Sale will go to local non-profit organizations which provide programming and benefit Summit County senior citizens, such as: Meals on Wheels, FIRC, Timberline Adult Day and SCCC. Of course, donations can be made at any time to the organization and via the donations link on our website, noted above. See it for how we are doing toward reaching our goal. Thanks for your participation. Brenda Alberico, Rummage Sale Chairman, and the Summit Seniors Board Tax note: Section 2104 of the CARES Act, passed earlier this year, allows up to a $300 deduction on your 2020 federal tax return for donations made to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations like ours. Ask your financial advisor or accountant or tax adviser for more details regarding this.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: to make calls for August 6th Summit Seniors Helping Seniors campaign. Volunteers will be given a list of fellow SCSC members to call along with a script with information on the August 6th donation campaign (see above / page 2) for more information. Do this at home and on your own time during the 1st week of August. Make a difference!

Contact Brenda Alberico at [email protected] or Joan Tilden at [email protected] to volunteer. We need your help to make the Seniors Give Campaign a success!

Second Homes and the 2020 Census

Do you own a second home or short-term rental property in Summit

County that is unoccupied or short-term rented the majority of

time? Are you confused about how to respond to the 2020 Census

for that address? Whether you choose to complete the 2020

Census online, by phone or by mail, the answer to the question of

how many people live at the part-time residence is "zero."

Help to ensure an accurate and efficient count by responding to the

2020 Census for your part-time or rental home

at 2020census.gov. Follow these simple instructions to minimize

the need for a census taker to follow up.

Enter the Census ID or address for this secondary property

reference a door hanger, or go online and select, "If you do not

have a Census ID, click here."

Enter “0” for the number of people living at this property

Hit Next, and when a “soft error” occurs, click Next again

Select “No” when asked to confirm no person lives at this property

Select primary reason – Seasonal (most likely)

Complete! And that's it. You're done!

We greatly appreciate your help ensuring an accurate accounting

for all residences in Summit County - including part-time, seasonal,

vacation, and short-term rentals!

The Turtles hike on Thursday mornings. Hikes are

usually 3 to 4 miles and considered easy. Due to our

current circumstances, for the month of August, we will

ask anyone interested in hiking to call one of us the

Tuesday before the hike for information and

instructions. This will allow us to modify or cancel

depending on the public health recommendations at

the time. This will also allow us to control the number of

hikers and cars in the group. (TBD: To Be Determined)
