“Pastor’s Ponderings”
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one
another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to one
hope when you were called… – Ephesians 4:1-4
The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians and to other churches, expresses
the importance of unity and family life. This important principle of the community of faith was their guide to life in the community and the community’s
calling to live in Christ. It is was also an important ingredient of following the mission that they were called to.
In the same way, in 18th century England, the early Methodists remained connected through worship, class meetings, and other small groups for the
purpose of making sure they stayed true to the mission of God.
Times, people, and ministry styles change, but the mission of God does not. Many changes are a sign of the Holy Spirit moving among us and through us. As
the spirit is active new ministries begin to happen and take shape, new leadership moves us in new directions, new music, worship, and preaching can
inspire new people in new ways.
New people and new voices in the church, all empowered by the Spirit of God
and committing to serving in Jesus name are signs of God working through us to change the world and to reach as many people as possible. This is what Kingdom
work is about.
In the midst of it all, the mission does not change. Our mission as a church and as individual disciples always remains the same. That is, the mission of making
disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, or as stated in Summit church’s mission: to serve and to share, making disciples of Jesus
Christ. Our mission today is what it was 10 – 50 years ago and will be the same 10 -50 years from now. How we go about it may change, the people involved
and leading us may change, but the mission itself remains the same. Let’s stay true to the mission. Thanks be to God.
Blessings
Tom

Stephen Ministry is for you – yes you. We are trained lay ministers who desire
to be there with you during the tough times in life. We are not counselors or therapists. Instead we are caring friends who can offer a listening ear and join
you through a difficult period in your life. Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised in their ministry. If you could use a caring friend, we are here for
you. Feel free to contact one of our Stephen Leaders: Lynda Lagan (866-0285) or Connie Hoeke (412-400-6898) and we will be there to help you find who and
what you need. All conversations with Stephen Ministers and Stephen Leaders are held in the strictest confidence.
In an effort to accommodate our many busy schedules, meetings of the
Stephen Ministry Team are now held on the third Tuesday of each month from
10-12 AM and the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-8 PM. Continuing
Education will be provided in at least 1 meeting per month and peer
supervision will occur at every meeting. Our meetings in June are Tuesday,
June 20 from 10-12 AM and Tuesday, June 27 from 6-8 PM. Continuing
education will be focused on the mechanics of peer supervision at both
meetings.
New Class to be Commissioned…
Summit Church will be adding two new

newest Stephen Ministers!
