PROGRAMME 1st Announcement

www.imhbusiness.com

08:30-09:00 Registration

09:00-09:10 Welcome Addresses • Dr George Theocharides, President, Cyprus Blockchain Technologies Ltd. • Yiannis Menelaou, President - Cyprus Blockchain Association, Board Member - European BlockTech Federation

09:10-09:20 Introduction by the Chairman What’s Next for Blockchain? A Review of the First Decade and Future Trends As we enter Blockchain’s second decade (since the introduction of Bitcoin in 2009), it is important to review what has

happened, which promises have materialised and where irrationally inflated expectations have been exaggerated. At the same time, we can debate the future of Blockchain and forecast new challenges over the next few years. In this talk, after revisiting the major milestones of the first decade, we will go through four such challenges: a) central bank digital currencies; b) Blockchain converging with artificial intelligence and IoT; c) self-sovereign identities for objects, machines and software; d) decentralized organizations.

George Giaglis, General Director, Institute for the Future, University of Nicosia, Cyprus

Session 1: Becoming a Blockchain Hub09:20-09:35 Emerging Technologies: A New Reality The vision of the Ministry of Finance on new technologies that have emerged in recent years. Harris Georgiades, Minister of Finance, Republic of Cyprus

09:35-09:50 Developing Blockchain Technology for Modernisation and Efficiency Rapid and subversive changes within the economy, politics, and society at large, along with continuous technological

developments, indicate that we need to be focused in keeping pace with a new and demanding climate that constantly changes. Given how innovative Blockchain technology is, the House of Representatives recognises how important its implementation within a timely manner is and, thus, will undertake the initiative in promoting this technology and subsequently in providing support by securing its legislative and legal status.

Demetris Syllouris, President, House of Representatives, Republic of Cyprus

09:50-10:05 The Benefits of Establishing Blockchain Technology in Cyprus Michalis P. Michael, Chairman, Invest Cyprus

10:05-10:25 Is Europe About to Become the Blockchain Centre of the World? While China leads the world in AI and the US is dominant in Big Tech such as Facebook, Google and Amazon, there is a huge

opportunity for other territories to lead the world in Blockchain. Small countries and islands such as Malta and Liechtenstein are vying for this title by offering regulation-friendly conditions while Switzerland is using its finance legacy in ‘Zug Valley’. But perhaps it is Europe itself that may become the Blockchain Continent. If this is the case, what does this mean for countries such as Cyprus?

Monty Munford, Tech/Blockchain Expert, Weekly Technology Contributor Column - Forbes, Founder - Mob76, UK

10:25-10:35 Questions & Answers

Session 2: Blockchain Governance10:35-10:55 EU Blockchain Initiatives The presentation will introduce the main actions undertaken at EC level on blockchain, including policy and support initiatives

as well as reflections on regulatory aspects. Pierre Marro, Policy Officer & Team Leader, Digital Innovation and Blockchain Unit, Directorate General for

Communications Networks, Content & Technology (DG CONNECT), European Commission, Belgium

10:55-11:10 Blockchain Standardisation Developing standards for Blockchain as a new field of technical activity will significantly benefit the economy as a whole, as well

as provide significant advantages to the private sector, government transactions and the banking system. The widespread adoption and use of international Blockchain standards could facilitate a new wave of innovation, productivity, employment and industry opportunities, as well as play a vital role in the development of many businesses and industry sectors.

Joseph Karis, IT Standards Officer, Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation

11:10-11:30 Blockchain and GDPR: An Overview Dr Paolo Tasca, Executive Director, UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies (CBT), University College London, UK

11:30-11:45 Blockchain Technology – Tax & VAT implicationsIn the absence of specific Tax and VAT guidelines referring to the several activities that can be performed using the Blockchain technology, we shall analyse the Τax and VAT treatment of the ICOs and STOs, as well as the exchanges, digital wallet providers and miners in light, of the general principles and the current Tax and VAT legislation.Demetra Constantinou, Partner - Accounting & VAT Department, Kinanis LLC, Cyprus

11:45-11:55 Questions & Answers

Cyprus Blockchain Summit

11:55-12:30 Networking Coffee Break

Session 3: Blockchain in Business12:30-12:50 Does Blockchain Make Sense for Our Business? If Yes, Then How Do We Do It? Corporate boards and government ministries in Cyprus and abroad have been in a quandary about Blockchain technology.

While most understand that Blockchain is “an immutable, secure and transparent ledger”, they do not have a firm grasp of: 1) how blockchain technology might benefit their organization; 2) how to incorporate Blockchain into their business; or 3) its cost or return on investment. Michael Bryant’s presentation will shed some light.

Michael E. Bryant, MA, MBA, CPA, CBE, Chairman of the Board & CEO - World Blockchain Foundation (.Net), CEO - Blockchain Ventures International, Publisher - The Daily News | Blockchain, Austria

12:50-13:05 Blockchain: From Concept to Product Blockchain and DLTs can really optimize business operations and provide innovation at the same time. Case studies for ongoing

blockchain projects that provide solutions to existing business needs, and the generation of impact through innovative products will be presented.

Christiana Aristidou, Vice-Chair, Cyprus Blockchain Association

13:05-13:15 Questions & Answers

Session 4: Blockchain Applications13:15-13:35 Blockchain in Supply Chain: Critical Path to Success After FinTech, Supply Chain is the area with the most operational use cases for Blockchain. Still, there is much confusion

not only in how Blockchain technology can be used to create real value, but there’s also the crucial question “Where do we start?”. During this presentation we will discover what Blockchain is, discuss 3 real-world use cases in Supply Chain today and try to figure out what the critical path to implementing Blockchain within your business is.

Troy Norcoss, Blockchain Business Strategist, Co-founder - Blockchain Rookies, UK

13:35-13:55 Smart Contracts – Theory and Practice Smart contracts are very useful for our daily business. Smart contracts have some advantages over normal contracts. Smart

contracts are on the blockchain and that’s why smart contracts are immutable. We will see how smart contracts are used in daily business regarding real use cases from practice. Statistics shows us that smart contracts will be used more and more in daily business. This brings us to the need to evaluate the future role of smart contracts.

Boris Otonicar, Lic. Phil. (Master of Science), Blockchain Specialist BVS, Scrum Master, Switzerland

13:55-14:10 Open Source Self-Verifiable Certificates Certificates are historically issued by institutions in the paper/digital form. We have seen myriads of fraudulent cases about

forging certificates, may it be academic certificates for jobs, insurance certificates for claims, or even wedding certificates for claiming of rights/benefits. Validating an academic certificate by potential employers is an arduous process but it may also be impossible if the institution no longer exists or the certificate was issued years ago. Similarly, with other types of certificates, the verifying institution, whether an insurer, a government or any other authority, would welcome a solution that establishes trust as to the authenticity of the certificates before them. Blockchain comes to the rescue.

Alexis Nicolaou, CEO, block.co, Cyprus

14:10-14:20 Questions & Answers

Session 5: Blockchain Technology Advances14:20-14:35 Blockchain & DLTs: The Celebration of Cryptography We will discuss fundamental cryptographic primitives behind Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies, and how

when combined, they achieve certain desired properties such as consensus, immutability, transparency and security. We will do an overview of 40+ years of cryptographic research in an effort to design a completely peer-to-peer self-governance e-cash system up to the development of Bitcoin and altcoins.

Dr Theodosis Mourouzis, Cryptologist, Managing Director - Cyprus Blockchain Technologies Ltd.

14:35-14:55 The Long Fight Towards Crypto Neutrality This talk is given from a perspective of a crypto researcher and a specialist of offensive and malicious technology. I am

not going to argue that technology such as cryptography is rarely neutral, and it has important consequences on our lives. Cryptography is expected to set us free, however, technology can also transform us into slaves and rob our money. Government and Blockchain (in the future people will wonder which one was invented first!) are the places where neutrality may exist or so we (very naively) would like to postulate. We will also talk about backdoors in bitcoin(!) and block ciphers.

Dr Nicolas T. Courtois, Cryptologist, Code-breaker, Senior Lecturer - University College London, UK

14:55-15:05 Questions & Answers

15:05-15:10 Concluding Remarks by the Chairman George Giaglis, General Director, Institute for the Future, University of Nicosia, Cyprus
