An Easter Jamboree in Laubach "We'd like to come to Laubach this Easter with about 6 scouts – would be nice if You could join us with about 6 of Your scouts…." This was the start. Hamster and Cooky of the Seeland Pfadis from Switzerland and Naduah of the Solmser Pfadfinderschaft started to prepare this meeting. What it turned out to be was a mini-WFIS-jamboree as we had in the end 45 scouts from 4 WFIS associations joining on Easter weekend in the "Villa Solms" (which was by far too small for such a number… Hamster, Fakir and Cooky arrived with 24 Swiss scouts and Wolf-cubs, Carlos led a pack of 3 Waldläufer (they were hosted by Schwarzer Adler in his home (as luckily his parents went on holiday….), FPG sent 6 scouts and leaders from Mainhausen and the group "Ragnarök" plus several leaders completed the Solser team. For a scout – there is always room in the smallest house! Our organisers proved this sentence true. All rooms were occupied, the new space underneath the roof was used for the first time, all sharing a tiny bathroom with only two toilets, one shower and one hand-basin.

The program had been prepared by Naduah and Cooky. Soon as the Seeland Pfadis arrived by train Funko took them on to a historical hike, following the historic scenes of a murder in the Laubach area (an US bomber pilot, who had been shot down over a neighbouring village and been captured was killed by a NS leader of that village). We saw all the places where the story happened on Christmas eve 1944 and visited the place, where the plane crashed. During time of the hike, in the villa a surprise birthday party for Chilly was prepared and the first evening ended with birthday celebrations. Many new contacts and friendships were built that evening and further deepened during the days to come. Competition games with mixed groups and a wild game in the castle area of Laubach followed the next day and Cooky, Rolex and some helpers surprised the groups with an "African Lunch" during the break. Evenings with songs, stories and games ended the days in the villa – especially for many newcomers in the Seelandpfadi-group a very good first experience of scouting and the international brotherhood of scouts.

So, when the guests left Laubach, a lot of new friendship had been set up and we all hope, that these lead into a bright future of WFIS. Let's have everywhere such on-the-spot mini-jamborees and deepen the good relationships among WFIS organizations. A special Thank You to Cooky, Hamster and Naduah for the great organisation and the colourful programme!

Air Scouts Still Alive and Well!

Carlos Trabado – Group Leader of “Estel de Gel” (Ice Star) Air Scout Group proudly share the excellent article named “Air Scouts are back!” published in the AEROCLUB magazine about the only Spanish Air Scout Group actually being active and full member of the Associació Catalana de Scouts (WFIS in Catalonia, Spain).

Service at the Sabadell Aerodrome, Helicopter Flight Seminars with ASPA PATROL (Air Force recently opened a window on behalf of i.e. civil organizations like Scouting), attending “Loreto Festival” (Airship Saint Patron) among other offered best chance to appreciate the efforts to maintain high standards of Air Scouting within both, Civil Aircraft and the Air Force. Well Done!

BCP Scouts in the mid 1980s

Bruderschaft Christlicher Pfadfinder 25th Anniversary Camp, Glinde (near Hamburg)

The Bruderschaft Christlicher Pfadfinder (BCP) celebrated its 25th anniversary camp in Glinde (near Hamburg) some weeks ago. In 1983 the BCP received its official recognition as an independent association for youth work. Scout friends from Germany (some from the "early days" of the WFIS) and special guest from England joined the camp. At Saturday the groups did a scout wide game which led through Glinde. At several stations the participants had to solve tasks about nature/the area/do something creative, etc. The evening camp fire gave room to talk and sing with old and new friends. The next day was free in terms of program. Some went to explore Hamburg and visited the (worldwide biggest) harbor annual birthday festivity. Some went to the public swimming pool of Reinbek -a cool decision on a hot summer like day. Early evening all scouts, friends, former members and parents met at a public building at the camp site. The official celebration ceremony was opened with some introductory words of the current chairman of the BCP - continuing with a presentation of the history of the BCP surrounded by some games for and with the audience. A little exhibition with lots of photographs from past activities could be visited - surely brought back memories to some visitors. Meanwhile a crew prepared the barbecue just in time that all persons present could enjoy a nice warm evening with excellent food. A campfire later that evening was organized by our guest -a big thank you for that. Next morning - leaving behind some joyful days - it was time to say good-bye to old and new friends.

Our guests

Wolf Cubs’ Cerimonial

First WFIS Nationwide St. George Parade, SPAIN On May 11th – 12th , 2008 WFIS Associations in Spain celebrated their First St. George Parade in Santa Maria de Martorelles (Barcelona) with participation of Associació Catalana de Scouts (ACS) and Asociación de Scouts Independientes de Madrid (ASIM, prospect member). Breogán Scouts didn’t attend the event because previous commitments held but sent their warm wishes of success. Almost 200 Scouts had a lovely and exciting experience, over all because we never before met such friendly groupings of different origins under the same flag of traditional Scouting. On Saturday, it’s raining cats and dogs but everything was ready for indoor activities, leaving outdoor one for Sunday. We remember B-P words during 1924 Jamboree in Denmark: 'I have seen great numbers of Scouts in my life, but I have never seen any as wet as you!' On Sunday, activities like workshops, scoutcrafts events and ceremonials take position and we are happy to inform of two highest awards given to some of our children, a Leaping Wolf (Mowgli Award) and a St. George’s Scout Award. They truly deserve both mentions. Also, thanks to our guests who attended our closing ceremony, Spanish AISG (Former & Adult Scouts) President Mr. Santiago Ferrer and his staff as well as Mr. Pedro Judez, Provincial Commissioner of Scouts d’Europe in Catalonia.
