red hot Junior camp
A Week At the BeAch
Let’s go to the beach! Do you think we’ll meet pirates
while searching for treasure in the sandbox? Or mermaids
when we splash in the water table? One day we can
decorate a sandcastle cake and eat it for snack. Another
day we can create blue Jell-o to make it look like the
ocean in a cup. We can decorate marine life sugar cookies
too, because you can get awfully hungry at the beach! We
will read lots of adventurous tales—maybe we will have
time to make up a tale of our own to send home. So,
grab your beach bag and come join in the fun!

curious Jane day camp
Curious Jane Day Camp is a high-energy program for
rising 2nd–6th grade girls. We offer multiple weekly
sessions that revolve around creative explorations in
design, engineering, and science. All themes are offered
all weeks, and girls choose their favorite theme each
week! The program is hands-on and project-based. Girls
learn and have fun through DOING. They are encouraged
to be active, look at things in new ways and—above
all—experiment! We also spend plenty of time outside
and work on a variety of projects as a group, so that
girls in different themes can get to know each other. Our
instructors are endlessly enthusiastic about their topics
and very supportive of the girls’ ideas and work.
Themes: Toy Design • Story Arts • Lab Science • Robotics
• Zine Scene • Building • DIY Workshop
We are a close-knit group passionate about gender-
affirming opportunities and creative, project-based
learning. We are fun, supportive, and enthusiastic—with
our guidance, the girls set the tone, and each group
creates its own magic!

and lives in Brooklyn, NY. She holds her B.A. from Yale
and master’s degree in Industrial Design from Pratt. After
10 years in the all-girls camp environment, she created
Curious Jane and Blue Tree to give her girls, and all girls,
a chance to be creative and inventive in a high-energy,
collaborative, and gender-affirming space. She loves de-

Adventures in Art
Interested in exploring your artistic side? Do you like
working with sculpture or drawing and painting? Do you
love to build things? Then this is the camp for you! We
will explore art using several different mediums.
DrAWing, PAinting, AnD PhotoshoP
Dates: June 18 – June 22
This is a cool class because it’s rare to see this combina-
tion of working with studio materials and working with
digital media in the same week. The painting component
will use cardboard and other materials to make a paint-
ing that is three-dimensional. Campers will be exposed
to the basics of Photoshop so that they can work on an
independent project. No drawing, painting, or Photoshop
experience is necessary, but if you do have experience, it
will allow you to work at a more advanced level.
clAymAtion AnimAtion
Dates: June 25 – June 29
This is a rollicking good time because the combination of
working in clay, building and painting scenery, and then
animating your story on the computer in iStop Motion
is just so much fun. Also, we use GarageBand to make
music and record the voices for the characters, so the
week is full of fun. At the end, we post our animations on
YouTube so everyone everywhere can enjoy them.
clAy sculPture
Dates: July 9 – July 13
In this class we will be building sculpture using two dif-
ferent kinds of clay, cardboard, and paint. For environ-
ments (anything from castles to caves), we will use a
kind of clay that hardens and can be painted, while for
people, animals, monsters, etc., we will use another kind
of colored clay that allows the user to get a lot of detail.
When using the clays together, we can build very elabo-
rate scenes.
comPuter AnimAtion
Dates: July 16 – July 20
We will be using a sophisticated but easy-to-use anima-
tion program to develop a short story line, create a car-
toon character, and then animate that character or char-
acters with backgrounds you make yourself. Then you will
be able to add your own music (made in GarageBand)
and create voices for each of your characters. Learning
the program will be simple even for kids who have never
done any animation or computer drawing before. The
main goal is to have fun!
For all camps
Time: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Ages: 9 – 12
Cost: $290 per week (includes lunch and snack)

The camp will be led by Hannah Coale, an art and digital
art instructor at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.

Outdoor Adventurers Camp is designed to get boys and
girls ages 9–11 outside each day to explore the Wissa-
hickon Valley. The camp is small, limited to 15 campers
and three counselors, allowing us great mobility and the
ability to tackle activities that larger groups could not. We
will hike the trails and learn about native flora and fauna.
We will visit the Lenape Indian statue on our daylong
hike to the Wissahickon environmental education cen-
ter to learn how the Native Americans lived in the valley
for thousands of years. We will work together and build
trust in one another on the elements of the SCH ropes
course, high in the canopy of tulip poplars. We will learn
the basics of archery in the woods behind SCH. We will
venture off campus, spending the day canoeing on the
Brandywine River. We will visit Ringing Rock Park and ex-
plore a huge boulder field where the rocks ring and hike a
streambed to a 20-foot waterfall. We will visit the Phila-
delphia Rock Gym to learn the basics of rock climbing.
Outdoor Adventurers is a great place for kids to discover
nature’s playgrounds that are hiding right in their back-
yards while nurturing respect and stewardship for the
wild spaces around them.

Starting with basic commands, campers will be taught
in a step-by-step progression how to build a game
that they design. Camp begins with an introduction to
GameMaker software including adding rooms, building
walls, adding backgrounds, warping to new levels, music,
sound effects, and many other great techniques. The first
few days focus on programming basics and by late week
the children are well on their way to creating their own
unique game. At the end of camp, each child is provided
access to our custom download site. From this site they
can download GameMaker LITE software, their games,
and our custom walk-through guide and resource folder.
Campers can continue to develop their game and create
new ones as well. Finally, they will receive T-shirts,
trophies, and a certificate with photo.

blasting, and enemy stomping! Students will learn how
to program real-world physics of gravity and friction, as
well as plotting out head-scratching mazes for themselves
and other avid gamers to solve! Actual programming
techniques will be used to create power-ups and saved
game data during the journey. Each student’s game will
be a unique adventure programmed entirely by him or
her! Additionally, campers receive access to our custom
download site featuring thousands of games as well as a
T-shirt, a certificate with photo, and a trophy.
