Blues Alley Summer Jazz Camp

Imagine for a moment in your mind'seye an idyllic setting hidden insidean urban forest, nestled deep insidea National Park and all within ourNation's Capitol. The name of thisidyllic setting is the Carter BarronAmphitheater and the name ofthe urban forest is Rock Creek Parkin the geographic center of northwestWashington, DC. Carter Barron isappropriately named after one ofWashington's preeminentphilanthropists and his namesakehas been home to many of ournation's most venerable jazz artistsspanning a period of over six decades.

The ghosts of Duke and Ella and Basie haveall been conjured on this pristine outdoorvenue whence they performed in the era ofthe big band. Today Carter Barron serves asthe summer home of the Blues Alley YouthOrchestra. Each summer over a five-weekterm youth from all over our city come tolearn and share and grow through jazzeducation and further perform on some ofour city's most prestigious stages.

The Blues Alley "Summer Jazz Camp" forkids at Carter Barron is a free program thatbenefits the children, the community andthe city through a series of public perfor-mances at Farragut, Franklin and McPher-son Squares, Blues Alley and the annualculminating concert at Carter Barron. Inbetween there are workshops, masterclasses, study tours and daily rehearsals .

Blues Alley Summer Jazz Camp begins onMonday, July 6th and continues through Friday,July 31st. The program is free of charge and isconducted daily from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.Hope to see you in the summer.
