36. Superhero CampJune 10-14, 9-10:30 a.m.; $60 per student Instructors: Brandi Hembree and Colleen Huey

Do you have what it takes to save the world? Do you have the sparkle to reign the world? Come and train to be the superhero you were meant to be! Save the world from evil-doers everywhere in this interactive and high energy class. The training combines co-operative games, team building activities, literature, educational enrichment activities and craft projects to ensure your powers will be supreme.

37. Astronomy/Space ClassJune 17-21, 9-10:30 a.m.; $60 per student Instructors: Colleen Huey and Brandi Hembree

Students will spend the week studying the stars, moon, sun and the universe. They will create their own con-stellations and explore the galaxy.

38. Under the SeaJune 24-28, 10:30 a.m.-noon; $60 per student Instructors: Brandi Hembree and Colleen HueyBecome an oceanographer for a week as we delve into a deep sea adventure. Students will explore the creatures of the deep blue sea. They will create replicas of their finds with various art mediums.

2. Big Messy Art!Instructor: Molly Loftis Drip, Drop, Splat! Students will expe-rience the art form of Abstract Expres-sionism by studying the works of Jackson Pollack. They will then create their own pieces.

3. Walk Like an EgyptianInstructor: Courtney PetersonStudents will travel back in time to Ancient Egypt. They will play games,study the gods, make paper and even turn into mummies.

4. Tennis TimeInstructor: Amal UmeraniIntroduction to the fundamentals of ten-nis. Students practice ball bouncing, drib-bling drills, backhand, forehand, and ground strokes, medium, soft and hard hits. Taught by our own alum and senior varsity player.

3-5 5. The Ancient Art of Fresco PaintingInstructor: Molly LoftisStudents will study the art of fresco painting on color enhanced plaster casts. This material was used for frescoes during Ancient times and for anatomy, ar-chitecture, & botany during the Renais-sance period.

6. Build Your Own SuperheroInstructor: Courtney PetersonCreative writing and art intertwine in this class where students create their very own superhero and sculpt it. Then students write a SUPER story to accompany it.

7. S.T.E.A.M. ChallengeInstructors: Colleen Huey and Brandi HembreeUsing their engineer-ing and design skills students will create drawings and con-struct houses, bridges and other structures.

8. Golf FundamentalsInstructor: Jake Houston at Springfield Country ClubExperience the full spectrum of golf instruction from put-ting and chipping to iron play and driving. For experienced junior golfers as well as beginners.

6-9 9. Field BotanyInstructors: Colleen Huey and Brandi HembreeStudy the landscape surrounding Ridge-wood, as students investigate the nature found in our landlab. Clear out invasive species and design a landlab meeting space.

10. The Art of WoodworkingInstructor: Paul SauterThis camp will focus on proper tool handling techniques, design. and construc-tion. By the end of the camp students will have built simple, natural furniture for the landlab.

11. Old to NewInstructor: Molly LoftisAs in the artwork of Marcel Duchamp, students will create surprising and often funny works of art out of ordinary ob-jects. They will make a small scale sculpture tied to the history of found object art.

12. Cake Decorating 101Instructor: Chris ReynoldsExperience the art of cake decorating, including color icing, decorating cakes and cupcakes, using buttercream, and royal icing and work-ing with fondant to create flowers, leaves and ribbons.

Space Instructor: Anna KiehnCome discover outer space. We will discov-er aspects of Earth, the stars, our galaxy, the planets and the universe. Students will be journaling, reading stories, creating art and building models.

14. Big Messy Art!Instructor: Molly LoftisGiven various natural materials such as, milk cartons, sticks, leaves, grass and flowers, students will design and create 3D fairy houses.

15. Cooking Around the WorldInstructor: Courtney PetersonStudents will expe-rience the culture, geography and other facts about a new country each day and prepare a delicious recipe from that country. Students will leave with their own international recipe book

19. CheckmateInstructor: Jeff BrunnerGreat chess players are great thinkers. This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of chess strategy and tactics. Advanced students will continue to develop their skills and prepare for chess competitions.

22. Ultimate FrisbeeInstructor: Paul SauterLearn the fundamen-tals of this exciting and popular game that combines frisbee, soccer and football. Take your skills to high school and beyond for a fun and exciting activity with friends.

23. Paper MachéInstructor: Molly LoftisLearn the art of cre-ating African Masks by working with forms. If you love it join us next week for more sculpting with paper maché.

24. Bulls-Eye ArcheryInstructor: Will DevanTake aim, and sign up now! You’ll learn about archery safety, shooting fundamen-tals, marksmanship, and different shoot-ing styles. All neededequipment provided.

K-2 25. The Great OutdoorsInstructor: Anna KiehnCome join us as we explore nature, and local habitats. We will do journaling, explore the landlab, grow seedlings, read stories, work in the garden and celebrate with a picnic.

26. Passport to the World – AsiaInstructor: Anna KiehnExplore cultures of the world including China, Japan, and India. Re-enact exciting historical events, read legends and folktales, do fun hands on experiments, build, create art pieces, and even cook.

27. Moving SculpturesInstructor: Molly LoftisExperience the playful mind that propelled Alexander Calder in his innova-tive sculptures. We’ll work with the mixed media of polymer clay, wire and found objects.

28. SoccerInstructor: Megan LandryThis camp will provide kids of all skill levels the chance to learn and enjoy the game of soccer in a fun and encourag-ing environment.

30. Chenille Stem StitcheryInstructor: Molly LoftisStudents will be introduced to the playful art of Spanish artist Joan Miro. Students will draw their designs on plastic canvas using erasable crayons and then stitch their design on the canvas using beautifully colored yarn.

31. Checkmate!Instructor: Jeff BrunnerGreat chess players are great thinkers. This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of chess strategy and tactics. Advanced students will continue to develop their skills and prepare for chess competitions.

32. Unsung Heroes of the American Revolution Instructor: Courtney PetersonLearn about the amateur soldiers who were among the lesser known heroes of the American Revolution. Learn about their hard life and survival skills. End the week with a reenactment of a battle scene.

6-9 33. Paper Maché MasksInstructor: Molly LoftisContinue to work with the African art form of mask making from the week before or experience it for the first time. Work with materials that manipulate to create the most intricate facial features.

Multimedia Design StudioInstructor: Scott James, at Westcott House A unique opportunity to work with artists and design professionals and build a portfolio of digital art inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House. Students will engage in hands-on exercises focusing on photography, digital videography, computer-based editing with special emphasis on creative problem solving. Program activities include individual and collaborative projects as well as daily working sessions in and around Westcott House.

K-2 1. Author Study: Mo WilliamsInstructor: Courtney PetersonStudents will dive into the stories of this renowned children’s author. After reading stories such as “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” students will create their own Mo Williams themed characters.

2. Big Messy Art!Instructor: Molly LoftisDrip, Drop, Splat!Students will expe-rience the art formof Abstract Expres-sionism by studyingthe works of JacksonPollack. They will then create their ownpieces.

3. Walk Like anEgyptianInstructor: Courtney PetersonStudents will travel back in time to Ancient Egypt. They will play games,study the gods, make paper and even turn into mummies.

4. Tennis TimeInstructor: Amal UmeraniIntroduction to thefundamentals of ten-nis. Students practiceball bouncing, drib-bling drills, backhand, forehand, and groundstrokes, medium, softand hard hits. Taughtby our own alum andsenior varsity player.

3-5 5. The Ancient Art of Fresco PaintingInstructor: Molly LoftisStudents will study the art of fresco painting on color enhanced plaster casts. This material was used for frescoes during Ancient times and for anatomy, ar-chitecture, & botany during the Renais-sance period.

6. Build Your OwnSuperheroInstructor: Courtney PetersonCreative writing and art intertwine in this class where students create their very own superhero and sculpt it. Then students write a SUPER story to accompany it.

7. S.T.E.A.M.ChallengeInstructors: Colleen Huey and Brandi HembreeUsing their engineer-ing and design skills students will create drawings and con-struct houses, bridges and other structures.

8. GolfFundamentalsInstructor: Jake Houston at Springfield Country ClubExperience the full spectrum of golf instruction from put-ting and chipping to iron play and driving. For experienced junior golfers as well as beginners.

6-9 9. Field BotanyInstructors: Colleen Huey and Brandi HembreeStudy the landscape surrounding Ridge-wood, as students investigate the nature found in our landlab. Clear out invasive species and design a landlab meeting space.

10. The Art ofWoodworkingInstructor: Paul SauterThis camp will focus on proper tool handling techniques, design. and construc-tion. By the end of the camp students will have built simple, natural furniture for the landlab.

11. Old to NewInstructor: Molly LoftisAs in the artwork ofMarcel Duchamp, students will createsurprising and oftenfunny works of artout of ordinary ob-jects. They will makea small scale sculpturetied to the history offound object art.

12. CakeDecorating 101Instructor: Chris ReynoldsExperience the art of cake decorating, including color icing, decorating cakes and cupcakes, using buttercream, and royal icing and work-ing with fondant to create flowers, leaves and ribbons.

22. UltimateFrisbeeInstructor: Paul SauterLearn the fundamen-tals of this exciting and popular game that combines frisbee, soccer and football. Take your skills to high school and beyond for a fun and exciting activity with friends.

32. Unsung Heroesof the AmericanRevolutionInstructor: Courtney PetersonLearn about the amateur soldiers who were among the lesser known heroes of the American Revolution. Learn about their hard life and survival skills. End the week with a reenactment of a battle scene.
