Summer’s Finally Here!

Firstly, on behalf of Fairview, we would like to extend a big happy new year to all our members.

We trust you enjoyed the festive season and have been enjoying your golf when the weather has

permitted.

Over the last few months there has been a lot of activity at Fairview. The clubhouse extension continues to hustle through the

various development stages and is nearing completion, we continue with our course improvements when not at the mercy of

the weather, we have a new head golf professional on board and the buzz about the club is becoming more evident as our

membership numbers continue to increase.

The rain hindered many holidays and summer barbeque plans but fortunately it also gave Fairview a boost, with the course

sporting a vibrant green colour. The unprecedented growth over this period and the ongoing weather challenged our green

keepers, however with settled weather we can see the course back to the great condition we enjoyed late spring, and early

summer. On the days where we are able to get out for a round it is pleasing to see the number of people who have responded

so positively to the constant improvements and are getting out there to enjoy the course.

We trust you are looking forward to the enhancements at Fairview over the coming months and hope to see you take

advantage of the best of summer weather to come.

Happy Golf,

Brian Hainge

Welcome New Members For those of you who have just become part of the Fairview

family we extend our warmest welcome. We are confident

you will enjoy your time with us and be pleased with the

ongoing progression of the course and its facilities. As you

will probably be aware we have made numerous

improvements to course conditions since our acquisition in

September 2010 and it is our pledge to you that we will

continue in this fashion and ensure the high standards we

have come to expect are upheld.

There are many benefits to you as Fairview members and we hope to see you

taking full advantage of these. Our revamped 12 bay all weather driving range

is able to provide you with a practical golfing alternative when the “summer”

weather doesn’t quite live up to its name. It is also a great place to unwind,

resurrect your game or get the younger ones involved. Members receive a

special 10% discount* on golf shop merchandise providing you with an easy

way to stock up on any equipment you may need.

If you have not yet had a chance to check out our fully licensed café and bar I

can assure you that you will not be disappointed. Our head chef Linda is

constantly whipping up all sorts of tasty treats, although her fresh baked pies

deserve special mention. Pending the opening of the new Members Bar, this is

a great place to bring a guest after a game of golf.

Your new “Fairview Membership Cards” will be distributed in April, once our

membership numbers have been finalized. You will need these cards to access

the Dot Golf system; further details about this system can be found under “Dot

Golf” on the next page. If you have any queries or comments please don’t

hesitate to drop by the Golf Shop, as we will always be happy to see you.

*Excludes food and drink, equipment hire, driving range balls and already discounted items.

New Fairway Mower As we should all be aware Fairview is committed to further course improvement, as

part of this we have purchased a brand new Jacobsen LF 3800 Fairway mower. This is

a top of the line mower and should further enhance our course and its playing

experience. The equipment advancement is part of our long-term upgrade /

replacement policy, and delivery is expected early March.

Some of you may be thinking that this is a reprint of the mower from our last issue of

“Fairways”; however, the previous issue introduced a brand new rough mower, so

with the two working in tandem we should expect to get greater results from these

high quality machines.

Dot Golf

We are pleased to announce that

as part of continuing to expand

the Fairview experience we are

introducing the Dot Golf

handicapping system to our club.

The Dot Golf system through their

website keeps up to date handicaps and

scoring records for New Zealand

golfers. Once you, as a member, are

registered for Dot Golf you will be able

to enter your membership number into

the touchscreen in the golf shop and

receive your personal Fairview

scorecard, then, at the end of each

round simply swipe your card again and

enter in your scores, these will be

uploaded to your account ensuring

your handicap is always up-to-date.

We expect to make this service

available to you by the end of March.

Clubhouse Progress

As we can see from the photos, the new clubhouse wing is

looking great and it is becoming clear that this is something

that we will all be very proud of. The building team reports

they are on program, and the site is busy with the various

trades going about their work.

The clubhouse is the first thing you see when you drive into Fairview as it

stands proud looking over the course, this is one of the many areas that we have

strived to offer a better membership experience and we are certain you will

appreciate the new area as somewhere to relax after your game, enjoy on your

non playing days and/or host your guests.

Although we still have plenty to do, we are expecting to have a members

opening of this facility on Saturday 31 March. We will then be able to sit back

and enjoy a few drinks and meal in this fantastic new facility.

Announcement It is with much pleasure we announce that Nick Wilson has

joined the Fairview team as the new Head Golf Professional at

Fairview Golf Club. Nick comes with an energetic and

professional manner and is a full AA member of the PGA of

New Zealand. He has over 9 years experience in the golf

industry having previously worked at Te Puke and Omanu

Golf Clubs. He has also been a caddy with a US PGA tour

player and enjoys competing on the local New Zealand pro-

am circuit.

Nick has a passion for coaching and will be offering a full range of coaching

packages to meet whatever your golf game needs and to achieve your goals. He

will also be instrumental in promoting and re-establishing a junior program,

which is important for the long-term sustainability of any golf club. Nick is

looking forward to developing this and taking them from beginners to elite.

Nick will be joined in the golf shop by two part time shop assistants, Kylee Wilson and Blake Prior. Kylee and Blake are both

single figure handicappers and are keen to get out and see you on the course as well as assist you in the golf shop with whatever

you need. In the near future you will start to notice a wider range of products in the golf shop to meet your golfing needs. You

will also now have access to a full golf club fitting and repair service catering for anything from worn out grips to broken golf

club shafts.

Over the coming months Nick will be hosting a number of orientation evenings for new and existing members. This is a great

opportunity to come meet Nick and his team and for new members to get acquainted with some of our existing golfers and the

running of the club. Further information on these will be available by going to the golf shop or on the website at a later date.

We’re very excited about having Nick on board and the additional services he will be able to offer you as well as developing

new initiatives and programs at the course. We’re sure he will bring a truly great golfing experience for us all!

Nick’s Golfing Tip – Grip a golf club on a scale of 1 to 10, one being the lightest and ten the hardest. Go through each

number slightly gripping harder as you near ten. Next go back to pressure 3 or 4. Usually this is a pretty accurate grip pressure

in which you can feel the club head and are able to swing it without losing control. Remember, all you are trying to

accomplish is a grip that will allow you swing the club head freely and in control. After all it is the club head that ultimately

strikes the ball, this is what we should feel throughout the swing….the club head. If this is achieved everything else will

follow. Often worn or perished grips can play a part in incorrect grip pressure causing you to grip the club to tightly! Bring

your clubs in to the Fairview golf shop and ask myself or one of my team if you are unsure if your grips are up to scratch!
