“summer shade album tour” Words by:Ian Kruger
With all the stress of recording and creating a full length album out the way, it was time for the band to hit the road on their first Album tour.
The tour kicked off in Cape Town and winded its way up the East Coast to Jeffrey’s bay, and then back down to the Mother City for the official album launch at Zula Bar.
We were lucky enough to be fuelled by the very generous people at Vitamin Water who kitted us out with enough product to keep us hydrated and full of vitamins for the next century.
After an awesome opening show at Catu in Cape Town we hit the road early to make our way to our first destination of Plettenberg Bay. This is where we set up for 4 nights and where we explored the amazing Garden Route coastline by day, and jammed to packed venues like Surf Cafe and Filly Fusion by night. All in all a very successful stop on the trip with some very interesting exploits going down. We then made our way to J-Bay where the Billabong pro was taking place. Our first gig was at The Mexican where we were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd and even more enthusias-tic owners. Once the gig was over the tequila’s went down until the early hours of the morning ending off another awesome night.
Our final stop on the East Coast was at the Malibu Music Festival where Nungarin played amongst some of the top musicians in the country. The setup at the festival was argu-ably the best that the band had ever had the privilege to play on. A big thanks go to the boys from Complete Events for putting on such and awesome event.
We then headed back to CT to prepare for the Official Album launch which included a warm up unplugged set on Maties FM.. Quite nerve racking playing to a listenership of 35 000 people with the sheer number of instruments the boys use. The hour long unplugged set was appreciated by all, including the station manager who asked us to come do again some time soon.
All of this culminated at the album launch on the 1st of August where we got to share a very special evening with all our fans (as well as a few new ones). With the opening act by the talented Gary Thomas, the evening kicked off on the right note and the band had an amazing set that lasted for an hour and fifteen minutes.
All in all a great success and we would like to thank every-one that helped us along the way. We’ll keep some of the more interesting stories for next time, like how we drove back at 4am in the morning to Cape Town with a broken window while it was 5 degree’s outside....
A big thanks to our sponsors Vitamin Water and Rocket Signs
