ELDER ABUSE AWARENESSIn June we observed Elder Abuse Awareness Month with a City Council proclamation, a panel discussion on Frauds, Scams and Other Types of Abuse and by displaying 378 purple lawn flags in the front of our building – one for each of the 378 reports received in 2016 regarding Sonoma County seniors. Although not every report results in an active case of abuse investigation, experts estimate that only 1 in 23 of actual abuse situations are ever reported – highlighting the need for increased awareness of the signs of abuse and of local resources. To learn more about the signs of elder abuse or neglect, including financial abuse and self-neglect, please contact us or visit www.socoelderprotect.org. To make a confidential report about potential abuse occurring in the community contact Adult Protective Services at (800) 667-0404. To make a report about potential abuse occurring in a licensed facility contact Ombudsman at (800) 231-4024.

LEAVING A LEGACY In May we received gifts of $65, 000 from the Frans and Hulda Eylders Family Trusts. Such gifts are prudently invested to provide emergency operating reserves and to meet the gap between annual income and program expenses.
