May 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians: As this school year draws to an end and we prepare for summer vacations, we would like to remind you that according to the M-DCPS Comprehensive Reading Plan, students are required to read during the summer. The required summer reading list is shown below. Students are asked to maintain a daily reading schedule and sign the attached reading log. Once the school year begins each individual teacher will have an appropriate assessment for the novel assigned. The summer reading log and the summer reading assessment specified by the teacher will be included for a grade during the first quarter of the 2018 academic year. In this packet you will find the required books, the reading log and the activities to complete for each book. During summer, the most updated summer requirements can be found at ponce.dadeschools.net.

PONCE DE LEON MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY
Ponce de Leon Middle School promotes personal integrity in all areas of life including the learning process. The goal of Ponce Middle School’s Academic Honesty Policy is to ensure that teachers, students, and parents understand and practice values and skills that result in an academically honest environment. As part of Approaches to Learning, students learn the value of thoughtful investigation, of giving others credit for their work, and of synthesizing information so that it becomes part of the students’ body of knowledge, rather than an empty exercise in copying others’ creations. Students also learn to recognize when collaboration is appropriate and when it is not appropriate.
