The Explore! Program for children ages 3-5, who will be entering Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten this fall, offers a co-educa-tional, academically and socially enriching curriculum that allows children to expand their horizons and explore the world around them. Children lead the discovery process through literature and project-based learning. CSG Summer Programs’ unique approach emphasizes the development of the whole child, and encourages children to become proactive in their learning and discoveries. In the Explore! Program, your child will view the world through joyous, curious eyes, seeing possibility and opportunity in every activity. The Explore! Program provides authentic and engaging ways for children to interact with each other and learn from their surroundings!

Exploring the ClassroomThe Explore! Program is located in CSG’s Columbia House, a separate on-campus facility designed specifically for Early Childhood development. Young children enrolled in the pro-gram will have the opportunity to engage in age-appropriate activities that promote independent thinking, problem-solving, and social-emotional growth. Each classroom is equipped with centers for writing, building, dramatic play, and sensory explo-ration. Columbia House also offers a shared studio space for collaborative, integrated media projects with a new theme each week. Such classroom and studio work deepens understanding and provides the kind of hands-on exploration that promotes excitement in learning!

Exploring the WaterAll students will have the opportunity to partake in daily swim-ming lessons from our WSI certified swim staff. These Water Safety Instructors will evaluate each child’s strengths and group students based on skill and comfort in the water. Swim lessons help children strengthen their bodies, develop and refine large motor skills, and learn a lifelong skill while having fun! Children will be encouraged to challenge themselves to grow as swim-mers and become confident in an aquatic environment.

Exploring the OutdoorsOur natural outdoor play space enhances the range of learning by allowing children to reimagine how they engage in outdoor play; this encourages curiosity and wonder at the workings of the natural world. While typical playgrounds provide children with a structured setting in which they can develop large-mo-tor skills, CSG’s natural play space also encourages children to interact dynamically with their play space, inviting them to create meaningful play scenarios. Our new student-designed tree house provides a unique occasion for wonder, and offers children a world of creative possibilities, opportunities for dis-covery, and an appreciation of the outdoors.

Upper School courses are offered in the CSG Summer Programs as an opportunity for students entering grades 9-12 to earn academic credit or to provide additional support in a subject. Academic credit earned during CSG Summer Programs can help students create a flexible schedule during the academic year, while non-credit courses seek to strengthen foundational knowledge or to extend learning acquired in the previous aca-demic year.

All credit courses are three weeks in length and daily atten-dance in credit courses is mandatory to receive any academic credit. Credit course offerings are divided into three-week terms. Term 1 credit courses will run weeks 1-3 (June 13- July 1), and Term 2 credit courses will run weeks 4-6: (July 5 – July 22). Credit classes must have a minimum of 6 students registered in order for the class to run. Space is limited to a maximum of 15 students per class, and we do expect some classes to fill very quickly, so register early.

Non-credit (enrichment) courses vary in length and time. They are offered to give students the opportunity to more thoroughly review a challenging subject or get the head start they need for the following year. No academic credit is granted for these enrichment courses.
