International Convention 2013
Key Club International Convention (ICON) is held annually in a different location every year
This year the 70th annual Key Club convention was held in our nationrsquos capital Washington DC
July 3rd-6th International Convention to put it simply is just like our district convention but on a
much larger scale Key Clubbers from all over joined together to celebrate all things Key Club
One of the most important things that occur at International Convention is the election of the
new International Board This year we elected Raeford Penny from the Capital district as our
new International President and Rachel Benoit from the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee
district as our International Vice President Amongst voting for the new international president
and vice president eleven new international trustees were also voted on The job of a trustee is
to look after their three assigned districts and provide them with updates from the international
level and to help assist each district The new trustee for the New York district is Michelle
Peterson who is from the Michigan district At House of Delegates we also voted on whether or
not a new amendment should be made or not in regards to the number necessary to become
a new district
Aside from voting for a new International Board there were various workshop to attend ranging
from one all about ice breakers to ones all about the Eliminate Project Along with the
workshops there were also two dances One which was story book themed and Key Clubbers
dressed up as their favorite story book character and another which was the dance to
Eliminate
If this sounds like something you would be interested in make sure to attend ICON 2014 in
Anaheim California July 2-6 If you have any questions about International convention feel free
to contact me Irsquoll be happy to answer any questions you may have
Page 3
ICON Experience
This year I was lucky to attend my second International Convention and I didnrsquot think it
could get better I was wrong I had so much fun in Washington DC visiting the
monuments going to the Spy museum the air and space museum and the holocaust
museum getting to bond more with the district board learning new things from the
workshops I attended and meeting new people It truly was an amazing experience If I
had to choose my favorite moment from ICON 2013 it would probably have to be the
meet and greet where everyone comes together to meet each other and trade pins
Now pin trading doesnrsquot seem like it would be such a huge thing but a lot of people get
really into it Each district is given pins to trade with others they meet at the meet and
greet and it really becomes a mad dash to collect every pin you can possible Itrsquos amusing
to see how into it people get International Convention is so much fun and I believe that
every Key Clubber should experience it at some point of their Key Club journey Whether
yoursquore a member an officer or even on the district board there is something for everyone
at International Convention
Page 4
Alzheimerrsquos Association
This past April the district board voted on our charities for the year one being the
Alzheimerrsquos Association The Alzheimerrsquos Association works on various levels to enhance
care and support for those affected by Alzheimerrsquos They also advance research and
advocate Currently the association reaches millions of people around the world trying to
put an end to this terrible disease The Alzheimerrsquos Association is known for being the
largest donor-supported voluntary health organization for Alzheimerrsquos Fundraising for this
charity can help aid in the research and help put an end to Alzheimerrsquos Ways in which
you can help support is by joining a local Walk to End Alzheimerrsquos in your area There is
one coming up on September 21st at Delaware Park and I urge all of you to go and
support with your clubs Even if you cannot make it to the walk making a simple donation
is just as supportive Right now it is reported that there has been $000 raised for the
Alzheimerrsquos Association in the New York district I hope you all work towards fundraising in
any way possible to help this cause

Back to School
Now that school is starting up again I just wanted to remind you all of a few things First
make sure you begin holding meetings as soon as possible so you can begin to plan out
some of your events It is extremely important that you get this done soon so you can
recruit members and have something to talk to them about Along with that make sure
that you begin collecting dues as well The sooner you get them in the better If you
want to try and increase member attendance try giving the members at least a week
notice and send out reminders during homeroom
Paperwork Status Chart
Just a reminder everyone the MRF (monthly report form) is due on the 7th of every
month Even if your club did not complete anything for that month still submit the
form Each MRF is crucial in showing how our district is performing The next one is
due on September 7th for the month of August Please make sure your club
secretary is submitting them
