Knight of Columbus Novena for Life—

A Novena for Life will be held from Oct.

7th to Oct. 15th at Christ the King.

We begin with the Life Chain on October

7th at 2:00 pm and end on October 15th at 6:30 pm with

prayer and refreshments at the Pumpkin patch. A novena is a period of prayer over nine days for a

particular intention. The intention of this novena is life,

especially in its most vulnerable stages.

You are encouraged to pray the Rosary at home on each

of the nine days of the novena.

de Colón se llevará a cabo del 7 al 15 de octubre en

Planting the Seeds of Good Stewardship

in our Children

Beginning the first weekend of October, Oct. 6 & 7,

during the Offertory, the presider will stand in the middle

of the aisle with a basket and invite all of our children to

come with their offerings. Through this practice we want

to teach our children how to be good stewards.

At the same time, we want to teach our children that our

monetary offering is only one way of being good stewards.

All that we have comes from a loving God and in

gratitude we acknowledge that by offering our time,

treasure, and talents to serve God and his people.

3rd: Reconciliation.

You won’t need to buy a book. But you might want to take

Qualifications for godparents are that they are

from their pastor recommending them as godparents.

October is Respect Life Month. Help put an END to Human Trafficking.

Human trafficking attacks the sanctity of human life. As Pope Francis has said: “Human trafficking is an open

wound on [our] society, [it is] a scourge upon the Body of Christ” (April, 2014).

Did you know…

“Human trafficking” is a modern term for SLAVERY – usually seen in the form of sexual exploitation or forced labor.

It is a multi-billion dollar criminal industry that uses human beings for profit from the control and exploitation of

people. There is an estimated 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally. An estimated 400,000 people in the

U.S. live in conditions of modern slavery on any given day, including coerced labor, sexual servitude, and forced

marriage. Human trafficking is not just overseas in 3rd world countries – it happens right here at home in our

communities.

Learn, Pray, Take Action…

Learn the signs of trafficking and report suspicious activity (https://polarisproject.org/human-

Pray for the safety of trafficked victims and that the exploiters’ actions will be thwarted.

A CALL TO HOLINESS BY POPE FRANCIS.

9. Holiness is the most attractive face of the Church.

But even outside the Catholic Church and in very

different contexts, the Holy Spirit raises up “signs of

his presence which help Christ’s followers”.[7] Saint

John Paul II reminded us that “the witness to Christ

borne even to the shedding of blood has become a

common inheritance of Catholics, Orthodox,

Anglicans and Protestants”.[8] In the moving

ecumenical commemoration held in the Colosseum

during the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, he stated

that the martyrs are “a heritage which speaks more

powerfully than all the causes of division”.[9]

10. All this is important. Yet with this Exhortation I

would like to insist primarily on the call to holiness

that the Lord addresses to each of us, the call that he

also addresses, personally, to you: “Be holy, for I am

holy” (Lev 11:44; cf. 1 Pet 1:16). The Second

Vatican Council stated this clearly: “Strengthened by

so many and such great means of salvation, all the

faithful, whatever their condition or state, are called

by the Lord – each in his or her own way – to that

perfect holiness by which the Father himself is

perfect”.[10]

UN LLAMADO A LA SANTIDAD DEL PAPA FRANCISCO.

9. La santidad es el rostro más bello de la Iglesia.

Pero aun fuera de la Iglesia Católica y en ámbitos

muy diferentes, el Espíritu suscita «signos de su

presencia, que ayudan a los mismos discípulos de

Cristo»[7]. Por otra parte, san Juan Pablo II nos

recordó que «el testimonio ofrecido a Cristo hasta el

derramamiento de la sangre se ha hecho patrimonio

común de católicos, ortodoxos, anglicanos y

protestantes»[8]. En la hermosa conmemoración

ecuménica que él quiso celebrar en el Coliseo,

durante el Jubileo del año 2000, sostuvo que los

mártires son «una herencia que habla con una voz

más fuerte que la de los factores de división»[9].

10. Todo esto es importante. Sin embargo, lo que

quisiera recordar con esta Exhortación es sobre todo

el llamado a la santidad que el Señor hace a cada uno

de nosotros, ese llamado que te dirige también a ti:

«Sed santos, porque yo soy santo» (Lv 11,45; cf. 1 P

1,16). El Concilio Vaticano II lo destacó con fuerza:

«Todos los fieles, cristianos, de cualquier condición

y estado, fortalecidos con tantos y tan poderosos

medios de salvación, son llamados por el Señor, cada

uno por su camino, a la perfección de aquella

santidad con la que es perfecto el mismo Padre»[10].

The opening song at Mass unites us as the People of God. Through the Gos-given

gift of music, we give praise and glory to God. Songs help us express what we

believe. Music touches our hearts and fills us with joy as we lift up our voices to

God.

Encourage your child to sing with the parish community at Mass. It is fine to

sing only the refrain of a song.

Invite children to have joy in being children of God. In the car, play a music

CD with catchy tunes about God’s love, and sing along. Download a song you

sing at Mass (You tube) to your phone and listen to it when you are together.

Talk about what it means to you all.

FAMILY PRAYER

Loving God, we gather together at Mass to give you praise for your unending love

for us. Teach our family to love others as you love each of us. May our words, our

actions, and our songs at Mass give glory to you now and forever! Amen.

FOR FIRST COMMUNION FAMILIES

Encourage your child to participate fully in the Mass by singing the songs and

saying the prayers. We join our voices with others at Mass as the People of God.

This helps us to celebrate the Eucharist in our minds and hearts.
