The lovely weather certainly adds to the fun of swimming outdoors. Being one of only a few schools with a pool, we are extremely for- tunate to be able to offer weekly swimming to all children (weather, mechanics and bank holidays permitting!). The pool is a wonderful resource for the children and ensures that they can access regular fun physical activity whilst acquiring an essential life skill. Fourteen of our year 3 / 4 children recently took part in a foot- ball tournament at Holbeach. This was a very enjoyable day and the children were a credit to the school. As a school we try to be as inclusive as possible and all children at some stage will have the chance to represent the school in the sporting arena. The values of team work, communication, fair play and endurance, were all displayed marvellously by all the children. We are incredibly proud of them all. Our Year 5/6 children will have a chance to demonstrate these values when they take part in a cricket tournament on Tuesday, 6th June. I am sure that they will do their very best and represent the school with pride.

Tournaments promote competitive sports

& teamwork

Summer Arrives The term ends with the arrival of summer. Hope-fully the sunshine will continue throughout the half term break so that the chil- dren can enjoy some outdoor fun over the holi- days.

The lovely weather certainly adds to the fun of swimming outdoors. Being one of only a few schools with a pool, we are extremely for-tunate to be able to offer weekly swimming to all children (weather, mechanics and bank holidays permitting!). The pool is a wonderful resource for the children and ensures that they can access regular fun physical activity whilst acquiring an essential life skill.

Fourteen of our year 3 / 4 children recently took part in a foot-

ball tournament at Holbeach. This was a very enjoyable day and

the children were a credit to the school. As a school we try to be

as inclusive as possible and all children at some stage will have

the chance to represent the school in the sporting arena. The

values of team work, communication, fair play and endurance, were all displayed

marvellously by all the children. We are incredibly proud of them all.

Our Year 5/6 children will have a chance to demonstrate these values

when they take part in a cricket tournament on Tuesday, 6th June. I

am sure that they will do their very best and represent the school with

pride.

Learning around the school WALKING WITH DINOSAURS IN APPLE

Apple Class have been learning about dino-saurs this term. The children have learnt a lot of tricky dinosaur names, sorted dino-saurs into herbivores and carnivores and act-ed out many dinosaur stories! The children have had great fun in the role play area dressing up as dinosaurs, using our dinosaur

tails that were made by the very talented Mrs Marston!

Apple Class performed their ‘Dinosaurumpus’ class assembly last week. The children worked so hard and had a fantastic time per-forming. Thank you to the parents who took the time to come and watch.

We also had a surprise visit to see some lambs this term. Ladybirds Pre School kindly invited us over to see their visitors. The chil-dren held the lambs and had an amazing time!

PALM CLASS DIGGING FOR DINOSAURS

This term Palm Class have gone back in time

to explore significant changes within living

memory on our planet and changes in life as

we have learnt about dinosaurs. A favourite

topic of many, we have explored different

species of dinosaurs and how they evolved

over time right through to their extinction

and then became palaeontologists looking for

fossils. The children were set a homework

challenge to use junk and unwanted items

from around the home to design their own 3D

model of a dinosaur. Their efforts were ab-

solutely incredible. These dinosaurs will be

displayed in Reception after the Half Term

break, please take a look at their brilliant

crafting.

INTERNET, TABLET and SMART PHONE SAFETY The world is a much bigger place than it once was, with the internet providing access to a plethora of information. Unfor-tunately the internet can be a dangerous place for children. Our topic day at the beginning of next term will focus on e-safety.

PLEASE BE VIGILANT ABOUT YOUR CHILDS INTERNET USAGE. ENSURE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR CHILD IS ACCESSING VIA THEIR ELECTRONIC DEVIC-ES. HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR INTERNET SECURITY AND ACCESS SETTINGS TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD IS NOT EXPOSED TO INAPPROPRIATE MATERI-ALS INADVERTENTLY? DO YOU SUPERVISE THEIR INTERNET USE? ARE THE GAMES THEY ARE PLAYING AGE APPROPRIATE?

OAK CLASS AND THE MYSTERY OF THE BEANS

Oak class have begun to experiment with growing runner beans in a zip bag! First, we damp-ened a paper towel and placed it inside a zip bag. Next, we used 5 staples and stapled across the zip bag about halfway up.

The runner bean seed was then placed inside the zip bag on top of the staples. This will allow the bean's roots to have room to grow. We have labelled our zip bags and attached them to the window. Oak class have their very own greenhouse effect!!

Oak class worked independently and efficiently. We also created our very own plant diaries so that we can observe the changes of the bean and watch it grow.

To compare what plants need to grow healthily, we also have planted some controlled samples. We have a bean with no water provided and a different bean with no light.

What do you think is going to happen to these beans? Can you explain your thoughts?

WILLOW LIGHT THE WAY

The children used torches to discover how light trav-els. They shone light rays from a torch through a slit in a piece of card and discovered that it travels in straight lines.

Our Year 6 children have now completed their end of KS2 SATs and they have all been collected for exter-nal marking. We are all very proud of the mature manner in which they addressed these tests.

In addition, 14 Yr 5/6 children attended PGL Cay-thorpe and returned today. A full update will be given in the next newsletter. The purpose of a residential is to build team working and independence.

PTFA Urgent

Support Needed The summer fair is fast approaching and it is usually a fantastic highlight to

the school year. The PTFA work incredi-bly hard to organize the stalls and visit-ing attractions, but they do need addi-

tional volunteers to help out on the day. If you have even an hour to spare on Sunday 9th July, please contact the of-

fice or the PTFA committee—we would be extremely grateful to hear from you.

Help us to raise money to benefit all the

children in the school.
