Summer Intern Housing Dates of Operation Summer Intern Housing availability is based on Tulane University’s academic calendar and is generally available from June 1 through July 31. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate requests in August as our staff is preparing the residence halls for the school year. Intern housing is available to any undergraduate, graduate, or professional student from another university, who is 18 years old or older, who has a summer internship or summer research project. Rates and Payment Room Rate: Housing and Residence Life offers the following room types and rates to interns. Please note that room types are subject to availability. Available room types are single and double occupancy rooms. Single occupancy rooms have no more than one person assigned and double occupancy rooms have no more than two people assigned. Single: $40 per night per person. Double: $34 per night per person. Rates are subject to change. Tulane University’s Housing and Residence Life department will provide the intern with a bill itemized according to services. The intern agrees to pay Tulane University for all unpaid charges within ten business days of receiving a statement. Interns will not be permitted to check into the residence halls if payment has not been received. Air-conditioning, Wi-Fi service, and all utility costs are included in the room rate. With the exception of toilet paper, Housing and Residence Life provides no bathroom supplies. No kitchen supplies such as pots, pans, dishware or cutlery are available. Minimum Stay/Extended Stay: The minimum stay for interns is a three night stay. Additional nights beyond the contracted dates may be available at the same room rate upon request and at the sole discretion of Housing and Residence Life. All extended stay requests are required to be approved a minimum of 10-days prior to the interns arrival to Tulane University. Other Amenities: Housing and Residence Life offers other amenities. Please note that additional fees apply. Linens: $5 per night per person. Fitness Center: $4 per night per person. The information provided in your Non-Affiliate Application and Contract will be used to create your reservation. The application and contract cover basic information about your stay, including the dates and other important details.

DeadlinesRequests: Housing and Residence Life has a limited number of buildings and rooms available for use during the summer. In an effort to accommodate all guests, we require requests to be submitted to HRL by no later than March 15th. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space available basis. After reviewing the Non-Affiliate Application, interns will receive specific information regarding timelines and billing information.

Common Gathering Space: Select residence halls offer lounge and classroom space available for reservation for an additional fee. Common spaces may be used without a reservation; however, without a reservation, the space may be shared with other guests residing in the building. Not all spaces in all residence halls are available for reservation. Reservations must be made in advance and are subject to availability.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS I. Period of Contract A. This Housing Contract (“Contract”) shall be a limited license to use and occupy the room only, without establishing a landlord/tenant relationship or vesting any property interests in resident. B. Residence halls will open as of June 1, 2020 and will close on July 31, 2020. C. Non-Affiliate Students may not occupy or leave personal belongings in any residence hall before or after the hall is officially open and closed. D. Assigned rooms must be vacated, checkout procedures completed, and all keys returned to the desk indicated in your check-out instructions. E. Failure to checkout properly and/or return all keys will result additional charges. I. Housing Assignments A. The Department of Housing and Residence Life will house Non-Affiliate Students on a space available basis. B. Tulane University cannot guarantee a Non-Affiliate Student a particular type of accommodation. Assignment to rooms in the residence halls will be made in accordance with the established policy for priorities and on the basis of available housing space. C. Requests for assignment with a specific roommate will be honored when possible. D. Tulane University Housing rooms, unless otherwise specified, are to be occupied by the persons assigned to that room only. E. Tulane University reserves the right to modify room assignments and relocate residents at its discretion, including but not limited to reasons pertaining to health, safety, catastrophe, closing of the facility, roommate conflicts, or violation or breach of this Contract, and reserves the right to cancel/terminate this Contract for violation or breach of this Contract. Tulane University further reserves the right to immediately remove any resident or any other person for safety, health or emergency reasons. III. Cancellations and RefundsA. Non-Affiliate Students must notify the Department of Housing & Residence Life of any changes to or cancellation of the Contract no less than 2 weeks prior to their arrival date. B. No refunds for late arrival or early departure.

IV. Furnishings, Utilities, and SanitationA. Tulane University agrees to equip residence hall rooms to accommodate each resident with a bed, chest of drawers or closet organizer, closet space, desk, desk chair and WIFI access. Exceptions to this policy may be warranted due to the nature of temporary accommodations. B. The temporary failure or interruption of water, heat, or other utilities shall give a Non-Affiliate Student no claim for damages or reduction of rent. C. Tulane University reserves the right to levy and collect charges for damages, unauthorized use, or alterations to rooms or equipment. D. Non-Affiliate Students may not install equipment, make alterations, or do repairs to their room or employ any person to perform work or service in the room. E. Tulane University agrees to provide reasonable amounts of heat, water, and electricity during the contract period. Interruptions of any one or all of these services on a temporary basis for reasons of maintenance, repair, or catastrophe will not be considered a breach of this Contract, and Tulane University assumes no responsibility for damages such as food spoilage. If an interruption occurs, Tulane University agrees to restore the affected service within a reasonable time. F. Provision of air conditioning and heat is determined by guidelines of the University Senate Committee on Energy Conservation. G. Tulane University reserves the right to dispose of all items left in rooms after the halls have officially closed.

V. Liability and Indemnity The Non-Affiliate Student hereby agrees to fully release, indemnify and hold The Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund dba Tulane University harmless from and against any and all claims, demands, suits, losses, liabilities (including attorneys’ fees associated with same) arising in favor of or asserted by or on behalf of the Non-Affiliate Student for bodily injury, death, or for any loss of or damage to any personal property (including without limitation money or valuables) of the Non-Affiliate Student, regardless of whether caused, in whole or in part, by negligence, strict liability or other legal fault attributable to Tulane University, or to any other residence hall resident, guest or invitee. Tulane University strongly encourages all Non-Affiliate Students to obtain insurance coverage protecting their personal property.

VI. University RightsTulane University may exercise the following rights: A. To enter any facility for the purpose of inspection, repair, or emergency. B. To reassign Non-Affiliate Students within a residence hall, after timely notification, in order to accomplish necessary repairs and renovation to the building. C. To revoke privileges, including residency in or utilization of any of its buildings, of any occupant whose conduct, solely in Tulane University’s opinion, becomes injurious or potentially injurious to the Tulane University community. VII. RemediesIn the event a Non-Affiliate Student breaches any term of this Contract, Tulane University may, without advance notice, immediately cancel and terminate this Contract and all rights of use and occupancy of Non-Affiliate Student and is further hereby authorized to enter the room for the purpose of removing the Non-Affiliate Student, changing the locks, and removing and disposing of all belongings and property of the Non-Affiliate Student remaining in the room, which property shall automatically be deemed abandoned by Non-Affiliate Student, with Non-Affiliate Student releasing Tulane University from any liability for such removal and disposal. VIII. No WaiverFailure of Tulane University to strictly and promptly exercise any right granted in this Contract shall not operate as a waiver of its right to subsequently enforce such rights and no indulgence, extension or delay by Tulane University shall be construed as a waiver of any such right. IX. Governing LawsThis Contract shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Louisiana. X. University Policies The Non-Affiliate Student is required to adhere to all Tulane University policies, regulations, guidelines, and all local, state, and federal laws concerning health, safety, and public order. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in forfeiture of the privilege of using Tulane University facilities and services. https://www2.tulane.edu/studentaffairs/policies-procedures.cfm XI. Room Rental Rates and FeesIt is the sole responsibility of the Non-Affiliate Student to pay all applicable room rental rates and fees to the Department of Housing & Residence Life. XII. Force MajeureIn the event the residence hall or any substantial part shall be destroyed or damaged by fire, the elements, utility interruption, or other like causes beyond the control of either party, or for any reason whatsoever is rendered unfit for occupancy either prior to the beginning or prior to the expiration of the term of the Contract, or if Tulane University is unable to give the Non-Affiliate Student possession because of national or local emergency, calamity, epidemic, strike or other such causes, this Contract shall be suspended for the period during which the residence hall shall be rendered unfit for occupancy, or during which possession cannot be delivered to Non-Affiliate Student. XIII. Mandatory EvacuationIn the event that a mandatory evacuation is ordered by the City of New Orleans due to an approaching hurricane or other impending event, Tulane University shall have no obligation to arrange for or assist with the evacuation of any Non-Affiliate Students.
