AUTUMN 2017
821 STUDENTS ACHIEVE ANOUTSTANDING OR GOOD GRADE IN EVERY LESSON SINCE SEPTEMBER!
SUMMER HOMEWORK PROJECT PULLS A RABBIT OUT OF A HAT!
At Cowley, our behaviour system logs students’ attitude, behaviour and effort in all lessons.
The start of this academic year has seen a large amount of students achieve Outstanding or Good in EVERY lesson since returning in September.
Cowley continues to have the very highest standards and expectations of behaviour, as this is key for progress and learning.
We are delighted to see that so many students are showing wonderful Cowleian character and maturity in lessons.
In the summer holidays, Year 7 students (who are now in Year 8) were asked to create a model of their favourite charac-ter from their favourite book as part of Library/Literary and Art homework.
The standard of effort this year was abso-lutely incredible; it was difficult to choose the runners up - but the winner was unani-mously decided on - Laila Scully’s ‘White Rabbit’. Laila is in 8O and receives a £20 gift token. In second place was Keira-Leigh Allen for her ‘Mad Hatter’ creation and she receives a £10 token; the runners-up: Indie Pimblett, Thomas Fisher and Charlie Moore each receive a £5 token.
Equality StatementWe have recently updated our Equality Statement on the website. Part 1 gives examples of how we are meeting our duties under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) and Part 2 sets out our objectives.

ELEANOR HITS THE BULLSEYE
Year 9 student, Eleanor, recently competed in the Youth Winmau Masters Finals in Bridlington battling through tough qualifiers in Staffordshire.
Eleanor, who is now also captain of Lancashire Youth, won her first match 2-0, then went on to win her next match 3-1 and then prevailed in the final 3-2 to win her place in Bridlington.
The young starlet played exceptionally well in the competition and battled her way to be one of the last 16 players in the tournament.
Eleanor plays in a weekly darts league and over the years, has entered many local darts competitions.
Very well done Eleanor and we look forward to hearing more of your competition successes in the future.
On Wednesday, 13th September Cowley’s annual Girls in Sport day took place. The weather could not have been nicer and the sun shone all day making for an even more glorious day for our Year 7 girls.
Girls in Sport looks to showcase and celebrate the different sports and disciplines available to Year 7 students at Cowley, including: hockey, gymnas-tics, football, dance and netball. The objective of the day is to encourage girls to take part in a sport, maybe one that they haven’t taken part in before.
Cowley joined hundreds of other schools and businesses by hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning.
Through selling cakes, the college raised over £200. Students and staff worked exceptionally hard, serving cakes during lunch.
We extend our thank you to everyone who baked, bought and supported this event.

National Poetry Day
On Thursday, 28th September Cowley celebrated National Poetry Day with a visit from a local poet.
Pat Sephton, who wrote and read a poem at the Opening of ‘Dream’ in St Helens, took time to visit Cowley to entertain and inspire students with a range of witty and humorous poems during lunch.
The poetry read by Pat was well received and students became more confident as the event progressed to ask questions about the poems and to also add their thoughts.
After the readings from Pat, students were tasked with writing a rhyme and writing a verse - the winning entry of the latter will be used in this year’s Cowley Christmas card.
To finish a jam-packed lunch, students took part in a ‘Which Witch’ homophone competition. Congratulations to the following students who won:Layla Bavis-BothamCaitlin GriffithsAanu AbeAlexandra CashmoreJasmina RaiHarrison LattaKatie Jackson
About National Poetry DayNational Poetry Day is an annual celebration that inspires people throughout the UK to enjoy, discover and share poems.

The Day enjoys the support of the BBC, Arts Council England, Royal Mail and leading literary and cultural organisations, alongside booksellers, publishers, libraries and schools.
On Monday 30th October, the Art Department will be hosting a
between 3:15pm and 6:15pm for 10 - 15 Year 7 students.
Students must provide their own pumpkin and have an idea/print out of which design they wish to use.
