Grant from Commonwealth Bank Summer Hill CC has received a $2,000 grant as part of the Commonwealth Bank Sydney Region Community Cricket Project. Commonwealth Bank staff came along to the U12s semi final between SH Blue and SH Gold and presented the cheque to the captains and vice captains of the team and committee members. SHCC thanks Commonwealth Bank for your support.

U12 Div 1 semi final SHCC Blue v SHCC Gold It didn't seem like Australian cricket weather as the teams gathered on the veld at Bennett Park under showery skies and wind but the ground was drier than expected though the grass was longer than expected.

Blue captain Riley won the toss and elected to bat, facing the first ball with Ben at the other end. Antony got an early breakthrough for Minor Premiers Gold in the second over. Standing at square leg I heard a noise but couldn't tell if it was bat on ball or bat on ground. Riley showed a captain's sportsmanship, following his rep team mate and MCC White captain Jack's example from the week before and walked. Matt joined Ben and scored 8 before being dismissed by a spectacular catch by Thomas at very short cover off Leo's bowling. We're not sure what happened to Adil but uncharacteristically he didn't bother the scorers as Arya rearranged his timber. Ben retired after 20 overs and then Luca was caught Rohan, bowled other Rohan. Varun over balanced against Rohan's spin and Antony, having moved to behind the stumps, showed again why he is ranked in the top of U12s across

Australia as a keeper by whipping the bails off while Varun had his back foot in the air for a moment long enough.

At 5/36 in the 24th over the clouds were very grey over the Blue camp. Then Lewis stepped up and showed again how much he has improved as a batsman this season and started collecting runs. He was joined by the new kid on the block Tuv, who started belting the Gold bowlers to the boundary, forcing field changes, causing strife and angst in Gold and igniting hope in Blue. When he was caught for 25 he had turned his team's attitude around. Lewis kept grinding the runs out in partnership with Carl (10) and a returning Ben (25) and was not out on 19 at the end of the first over on day two when Finn got an edge and in another example of sportsmanship, turned and departed without waiting for the umpire's decision.

Blue all out for 109 from 55 overs. Two wickets each to Arya, Antony and Rohan Metry, one each to Rohan Gandhi, Leo, Jeremy and Oliver. Catches to Jeremy, Antony, Arya, Kshitij, Rowan, Thomas and Rohan Gandhi.

Finals are a different mind set, so while Blue would have preferred another two the total was a lot more defendable than been halfway through the innings.

Having all day to get the total, Arya and Leo opened and Gold went cautiously at 2 runs an over but the wickets started falling, keeping Blue’s hope alive. Matt bowled Leo for 6 and when Kshitij erred in not keepingthe crease when Adil fielded, Adil dismissed him with a direct hit.

Arya retired and when Blue got Antony (7) and Rohan G (5) the match swung back to Blue. Rohan M (22) and James then dug in to get Gold back in the game but Blue were stwhen Matt bowled Thomas for his 24th wicket for the season. However, Rowan (12) hung in there and Gold went passed Blue's score, also in the 55th over to be finally all out for 127 in the 61st over, a lead of 18.

3 wickets to Matt, 2 each to Luca and Fin and 1 each to Tuv and Ben. 2 catches to Adil and Varun and one each to Ben and Matt.

Needing an outright win to go through to the grand final and with nothing to logain, Blue opted to bat again and put the foot down. Matt (30) Varun (10) and Ben (27nopiled on the runs for an hour before declaring in the hope of getting the wheels to fall off the little Gold wagon but Gold shut up shop and their slot in the grand final

Please note this is not a talent program, and is not connected to the Cricket NSW Academy. It is open to all comers, and therefore there are no trials. As this is hard-ball cricket, you will need to bring along your own protective equipment (bat, leg pads, gloves and helmet as a minimum). Register soon as there are limited places!

Winter cricket There is a T20 Winter cricket competition that is now open for registrations for U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s. Games are played on Sundays over a two month period from April through to June. Summer Hill CC does not organise teams into this competition, it is organised on a private basis either as individual players or a group of players can register as a team but parents need to organise this themselves.
