1. Aims
For Year 2 or 3 undergraduate students who aim to work in integrated circuit industry, the
summer training camp provides unique opportunity to broaden their outlook in professional
knowledge, career development and cultural understanding. Besides academic session, this
4-week programme also includes practical training session taught by experienced senior
engineers. Sessions including technical experiments, industrial talks, company visits, real-life
projects and group work, will strengthen students’ professional skills and manners before
entering the industry.
As well, students are able to experience fast-changing and comprehensive culture in Yangtze
River Delta, understanding potential opportunities and challenges in the most economically
prosperous area of China.
2. Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
ILO1: Understanding technology development in local business operations; acknowledging the way applying academic knowledge in real business environment.
ILO2: Understanding professional skills required in career development, typically team-working, leadership, presentation skills and problem solving in practical context.
ILO3: Understanding different cultures and societies; developing effective communication skills with people from different backgrounds.

4. Training Camp Content
4.1 Training
The 4-week training camp is planned to start in mid-June. Topics are planned as below:
Topic 1 Digital system design
Topic 2 Verilog HDL
Topic 3 Microprocessor: ARM 7 Architecture
4.2 Company Visit and Talk
Chinese IC industry, the fast-increasing market all over the world range, is rising by 52.5%
annually. As the most economically prosperous city in mainland China, Shanghai attracts the
most significant national and multinational IC companies and talents. Visit in Shanghai and
direct talk to world branding companies will be arranged to explore the industrial
development as well as potential opportunities in career path.
4.3 Report and Presentation
Report and presentation will be required to evaluate student’s knowledge and professional
skills obtained during the summer camp. As well, cultural and social experience, industrial
visit experience will also be required to present student’s comprehensive development.
4.4 Assessment
The assessment of student’s achievement will be allocated as below:

5. Eligibility and Application
The training camp at University of Nottingham Ningbo China is only opened to Year 2 and 3
undergraduate students of partner institutions. Direct application from other institutions will not be
accepted.
6. Visa Application to Mainland China
After confirming your attendance in the training camp at University of Nottingham Ningbo China,
please prepare Exit-Entry Permit for Traveling to and from China’s Mainland for Resident of Hong
Kong and Macau《港澳居民来往内地通行证》 before departure. More information can be found
at Exit & Entry Adminstration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province and China Travel
Service (Hongkong)
7. Certificate, Credit Transfer & Exemption
You should consult your home institution for the possibility and arrangements of credit transfer or
course exemption. Certificate of attendance and performance report will be issued to students who
complete the training camp.

8. Campus and Facilities
University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus is about 3 hours drive or train journey south of Shanghai
and is in one of the busiest ports in China. Based in the Ningbo Higher Education Park, this spacious,
modern site offers first-class amenities including:
on-site residential facilities for all students and staff restaurants and shops indoor and outdoor sport complex state-of-the-art teaching, research and student services buildings catering facilities
8.1 Accommodation Facilities
On-campus accommodation will be provided for all camp students during the 4-week period. All
accommodation rooms are fully furnished and equipped with air condition, computer point,
cold/hot water, shower room and etc.
8.2 Computer Facilities
Camp students will be able to use computer, projector facilities in classroom. Students are also able
to access WIFI on most parts of the campus.
8.3 Sport Facilities
The campus has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including basketball courts, tennis courts,
gymnasium, badminton courts, volleyball courts, grass football pitch, taekwondo room, indoor golf
facilities and one 400-metre track. In addition, Olympic-sized swimming pool, located in the
University Park can also be used by camp students.
8.4 Library facilities
The UNNC library provides convenient access to quality information and services which are
customisable to individual needs and which recognise disciplinary perspectives and their information
requirements. The UNNC Library has one of the largest English medium collections amongst
academic libraries in China.
8.5 Personal Safety and Emergency
Ningbo and UNNC’s vicinity are generally safe with low petty crime rates. However, the
University urges awareness of the dangers inherent in any comparably sized community.
Please remember to keep the belongings with you all the time or keep them in safe place.
Mainland China is right-hand traffic in driving. Please remember to check the traffic on your
left hand side and then the right before crossing the road.

9. Travelling to University
There will be UNNC minibuses available to pick students up from Ningbo Lishe Airport (甯波栎社機
場) on the first day of training camp. Further information of airport pick-up plan will be provided in
early June.

9.1 From Ningbo airport to UNNC
Take taxi. Please show address on separate sheet to taxi driver. Time: 20-30 minutes. Cost: around
40RMB.
9.2 From Shanghai to UNNC
Flights between Hongkong and Shanghai can arrive/depart at Shanghai Pudong Airport (上海浦東國
際機場) and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (上海虹橋機場).
BY COACH
Coach to Ningbo departs from Shanghai Nanzhan Long-Distance Passenger Transportation Station
(上海長途客運南站). It will take 2.5 hours to Ningbo in good traffic condition. Bilingual online ticket

After arriving at airport, students can go to South Station by:
Taxi From Shanghai Pudong International Airport: around 150 RMB, 45 minutes in good traffic condition; From Shanghai Hongqiao Airport: around 60 RMB, 30 minutes in good traffic condition. Attachment 1: FAQS before Departure
1. What will the weather be like?
The temperature generally ranges from 32⁰C to 38⁰C during the day and 28⁰C to 32⁰ during the
night in June and July. Up to date Ningbo weather forecasts can be found at
http://www.wunderground.com.
2. What if I run out of money?
Most of banks in mainland China provide currency exchange service. The nearest branches (Bank
of China, China Construction Bank) are located on Qianhu South Road, three minutes walking
from the campus.
In addition, debit card and credit card of Unionpay, Mastercard, Visa types can be accepted in
most shops in mainland China.
3. Can Hongkong plugs be used in mainland China?
The standard electrical voltage in mainland is same with Hongkong. However,
transformer/adaptor for Hongkong electrical and electronic devices will be required. It can be
purchased in most supermarkets/shops including supermarket on UNNC campus.
4. Can I use my own mobile which I bring from my home?
Mobile phone card from your home with international roaming services can be used in mainland
China. More economical way is to purchase a local SIM card on arrival. There are several key
mobile operator stores on campus. You can also consider buying one on the first day when you
have city tour.
5. Is there a pharmacy nearby?
There is a campus medical clinic on the High street which will be open 24 hours of the day.
6. About Ningbo and nearby
Ningbo is one of China's oldest cities, with a history dating back to the Hemudu culture in 4800
BC. It literally means ‘tranquil waves’ and is a seaport with a population of more than 7
million. It lies south of the Hangzhou Bay, facing the East China Sea to the east. Ningbo borders
Shaoxing to the west and Taizhou to the south, and is separated from Zhoushan by a narrow
body of water.
Ningbo is closely connected with famous and historical cities such as Hangzhou (1 hour high-
speed train), Suzhou (2.5 hours), Nanjing (2.5 hours) and Shanghai (2 hours). Tourism cities such
as Shaoxing, Wuzhen can also be arrived in at most two hours by bus or train.
