1 Cloch Maelor Coedpoeth & Minera Summer Edition 2019 Welcome to our summer edition of Cloch Maelor: The weather during spring was somewhat mixed, hav- ing had some light snow, storms with very high winds, hail and a fair amount of rain, we also had a number of sunny and quite warm days. All in all spring passed with a fizzle more than with a bang! I am sure we are all keeping our fingers crossed for a warm, if not hot, summer — to have two in succession would be a bo- nus, if not a rarity. However, we have to accept what comes, we can not change it, but here is hoping for a good one. There is much occurring in the village and our sur- rounding communities during the summer months, and I would like to take the opportunity of thanking every- one who has made me aware of events and locations of the activities, as it makes my task very much easier. Travelling 2020 miles, his banger of an old Ford Mondeo never missed a beat! Sadly at the time of writing, this old trusty vehicle has been dispatched to the scrapyard. Paul at present has raised over £3000 for the charity and counting, the final figure is still being calculated, but whatever the total is, it will be gratefully received by Wales Air Ambulance. Cloch MaelorCoedpoeth & Minera Summer Edition 2019

Welcome to our summer edition of Cloch Maelor:

The weather during spring was somewhat mixed, hav-ing had some light snow, storms with very high winds, hail and a fair amount of rain, we also had a number of sunny and quite warm days. All in all spring passed with a fizzle more than with a bang! I am sure we are all keeping our fingers crossed for a warm, if not hot, summer — to have two in succession would be a bo-nus, if not a rarity. However, we have to accept what comes, we can not change it, but here is hoping for a good one.

There is much occurring in the village and our sur-rounding communities during the summer months, and I would like to take the opportunity of thanking every-one who has made me aware of events and locations of the activities, as it makes my task very much easier.

More details of the events are covered throughout this edition. I hope you enjoy reading the summer edition and should you have any comments or feedback, please feel free to email, my address is located below:

Wales Air Ambulance:

Congratulations to Rhos Cllr Paul Pemberton, who has just successfully completed a ‘British Banger’ trek from Wales to Benidorm, raising funds for Wales Air Ambulance.

By all accounts a good time was had by all, and all in the name of a great facility. Well done to Paul and his team.

Coedpoeth Community Council updates:

Members of the Community Council would like to offer congratulations to Cllr Michael Dixon, being re-elected as Chair, and to Cllr George Price being elected as the new Vice Chair. We wish them both well and look forward to a successful and productive coming year.

We have already commenced the gradual upgrading of our street lighting system (the ones owned by the Community Council) and this will be a ‘rolling’ project. This is intended to improve the footway lighting, whilst also reducing electricity and maintenance costs - with fitting longer lasting LED.

As was reported in the spring edition, there are a number of ongoing projects, slowly moving forward, but at least they are moving. Our collaboration with Cadwyn Clwyd regarding the Penygelli fields project, has successfully passed the first hurdle and we are moving forward with a theme of ‘Health and Well-being in the Heart of Our Community.’ The committee at the heart of this is working tirelessly to achieve successful completion of stage two.

We are also striving to improve the facilities within the Parish Hall, whereby it may be open to all, for an enormous number of new events and activities and to improve the exterior appearance of the building, making it far more appealing as it is approached from the roadway.

Just Saying:

Coedpoeth and surrounding villages really do have some beautiful public pathways and country lanes, making it perfect for all members of our communities, to get ‘out and about,' with or without a dog. However, we are still hearing on a very regular basis, the ‘stinky’ issue of dog fouling! It has to be said, the majority of responsible dog owners pick it up and bin it. To those people we say well done and thank you. To the small minority of dog owners who do not follow this ‘code of conduct,' we have to hope, that if are reading this item your skin tone has just turned a nice shade of ‘blush’ and a sense of guilt and shame may have just entered your thought process!

Come on people! It is not rocket science, have some respect for your community, fellow residents and the environment. You will earn the silent respect of other walkers, when you are seen carrying a bag full of poop en-route to the nearest bin.

If you don’t want to follow the code, go and live in a city somewhere, where people have nothing more beautiful to look at other than a ‘concrete jungle’ consisting of housing and office blocks — and not a field or pasture in sight!

Don’t spoil our gorgeous landscape, just because you cannot be bothered to pick it up!

Grand Opening: Beeca Edwards Beauty Clinic, 7, High Street, Coedpoeth LL11 3RY, Saturday 8 June between 16.30-19.30. Pop in and have a glass of champagne to celebrate the Grand Opening. Take part in the raffle and have a look around and get to know the staff.

Community Agent Humour:

I know Arthur and even the bus company will see the funny side of this editions cartoon.

Spring Edition Competition Result:

The challenge was to make me laugh and I would illustrate a cartoon to that effect — sadly however, not one single ‘one liner,' ‘funny story’ or funny ‘real life’ event found it’s way to my desk!

As a result, I have poked a little bit of fun at our Community Agents organised trip to Llandudno, which is usually over subscribed and with those able to book a seat, having a fantastic day.

There will be NO further Editor’s Competitions.

The Cloch Maelor is produced with the support of Coedpoeth Community Council.

Autumn Edition:

Last date for submissions for the autumn edition will be 31 August 2019. Please forward any events news worthy items of interest, anything you would like to see within these pages. Many thanks to those who did just that for this edition. Many thanks to the Facebook Groups who allowed me to reproduce their events.

Please use the below email for information and feed-back. Your views would be most welcome.
