Spotlight On: The South Carolina Aeronautical Training CenterMany campers can get their first glimpse inside the brand new South Carolina Aeronautical Training Center

(SCATC) on Trident Tech’s Thornley Campus this summer. This high-tech facility is filled with state-of-the-art

equipment that students get to use in many of our STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) focused

summer camps, which may inspire them to consider a future in a technological field.

2020 Summer Camps in the SCATC include:

• Aviation Adventures (Ages 9-11), see pg. 27

• Design Engineering: 3D Printing (Ages 12-17), see pg. 51

• Fun with Composites (Ages 12-17), see pg. 35

• Manufacturing Robots (Ages 12-17), see pg. 51

• VEX Robotics Team A/B (Ages 12-17), see pg. 48

“I’ve often said, South Carolina has a decade to do what Washington state had a century to do – create an

aeronautical culture,” Trident Tech President, Dr. Mary Thornley said. “To do this requires more than education: it

requires inspiration. The South Carolina Aeronautical Training Center will be that place of inspiration! Consider a

summer learning experience in this world class facility. Be inspired to explore.”

The SCATC is also playing host to a brand new scholarship program, the Lowcountry Advanced Manufacturing

Institute (LAMI) that launches this summer (see pg. 62). Running concurrently with our summer camps LAMI is

intended to give students an overarching view of the many career paths encompassed in the world of advanced

manufacturing and includes tours of area facilities as well as hands-on learning with SCATC equipment.

Drop-OffParents/guardians must escort their child to and from the classroom and sign them in and out each day. Please drop off your child at the site of his/her first camp. Campers should arrive on campus no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the start of the camp. Campers arriving earlier will not be supervised (unless enrolled in Camp Sunrise), and parents/guardians must accept full responsibility for their behavior and safety. Children driving themselves to camp are required to sign in and out. If the child does not sign in, TTC makes every effort to notify the emergency contact.

Pick-UpParents/guardians must pick up their child from their classroom and sign them out. Campers should be picked up promptly at noon for the 8:30 a.m.-noon camps and 4:30 p.m. for the 1-4:30 p.m. camps unless that camper has registered for Extended Day Late Pick-up. Campers taking part in the Extended Day Late Pick-up program should be picked up promptly at 5:30 p.m. If campers are not picked up within 15 minutes after their camp has ended, they are escorted to the supervised lunchroom. A late fee of $15 for each 15 minutes is charged for campers remaining more than 15 minutes after their camp has ended. Please allow ample time for traffic and weather, and if you’re going to be late, call 843.574.6152. Also, if you need to pick up your child early, please notify staff during check in.

Dress CodePlease dress children appropriately; no flip-flops allowed.

Snack/BreakA 15-minute break is scheduled every day, morning and afternoon. Campers are asked to bring a snack and drink except for those attending the culinary and pastry camps.

AllergiesIf a student has food or other allergies, please be aware that TTC does not guarantee an allergen-free environment. Culinary camp recipes may contain nuts, nut oils, shellfish, gluten, dairy, produce and other food allergens.

Safety and SecurityDo not call or text your child during camp hours because this may disrupt the class or cause an accident. TTC is not responsible for the loss of personal items such as video games and cell phones.

Disruptive BehaviorCampers engaging in disruptive behavior will be sent home after an initial warning. This includes inappropriate behavior, fighting, shoving and inappropriate language.

Lowcountry Advanced Manufacturing Institute (LAMI)

Trident Tech is now accepting applications for the inaugural Lowcountry Advanced Manufacturing

Institute. This weeklong, full-day program for rising high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors is a

prestigious opportunity to gain exposure to the extremely diverse world of advanced manufacturing.

Participants hear from industry leaders, tour local facilities, and use state of the art equipment in the

new South Carolina Aeronautical Training Center as they learn about the wide variety of positions in

manufacturing, from machining and robotics, to marketing and logistics. Monday through Thursday

students spend mornings learning about and getting hands-on experience with current trends

and practices in high-tech manufacturing and afternoons touring area facilities (boxed lunches are

provided). On Friday students present group projects they completed during the week, followed by a

catered recognition luncheon.

LAMI is funded through a generous donation from the Bosch Community Fund and is free to

participants, however space is limited.

Apply now at www.tridenttech.edu/ce/programs/catalog/information/LAMI.htm to be considered!
