ABSENCE NOTIFICATIONIf your camper is going to be absent, please call and leave a voice mail message at (757) 963-8252. Please do not forget to include the date of the absence, your child’s name, and the specific camp in which he or she is enrolled.

CAMP CANCELLATIONSCape Henry Collegiate reserves the right to modify any course/camp or cancel courses/camps with insufficient enrollment. If an activity is canceled by the School, a full refund will be given or may be applied to another camp.

REFUNDS, TRANSFERS, AND WITHDRAWALSA refund will only be given if requested in writing more than two weeks prior to the start of the session in which the camper is enrolled. Fifteen percent (15%) of the camp fee is nonrefundable. Campers withdrawn less than two weeks prior to the camp start are responsible for the full tuition. Transfers are permissible up to two weeks prior to the start of camp. A ten percent (10%) transfer fee will be applied.

CONFIRMATIONPrior to the start of summer, a confirmation will be sent electronically to each camper from the Director of Auxiliary Programs. Some camps require a participant waiver, and additional forms will be sent prior to the start of the program.

CLOTHING & EQUIPMENTAll clothing, bags, and sports equipment must be labeled with the camper’s name. Cape Henry Collegiate is not responsible for any items lost while participating in Summer Programs. Lost and found items will be kept in the Lower School Office. All unclaimed items at the close of Summer Programs will be donated to a local charity.

FOOD ALLERGIESCape Henry Collegiate cannot guarantee to provide an allergen-free environment for all students with severe allergies and is not a food allergen-free school. Our goal is to work towards minimizing the risk of exposure to allergens that pose a threat to those students and to educate the community about their needs.

WELCOMEWelcome to Cape Henry Collegiate’s Summer at the Cape! Summer will be here before you know it, and we are excited about all of the new and unique offerings here at the Cape. We are thrilled to introduce some new and some old favorites of our academic, arts, and specialty programs. These programs are designed to allow students from ages 3 to 18 the opportunity to develop their talents, acquire new skills and knowledge, and explore new interests!

Cape Henry Collegiate is the largest independent, college-preparatory school in Virginia Beach. It is situated on a 30-acre campus just minutes from the Virginia Beach oceanfront. With a 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio, emphasis is placed on the core values of communi-ty, opportunity, scholarship, and integrity. Cape Henry offers a competitive athletic program, extensive summer offerings, financial aid, transportation, and a nationally recognized international studies program.

Included in this brochure are all of the program descriptions, times, dates, ages, and tuition. Please read everything thoroughly and contact us with any questions you might have. We are here and happy to help!

HEALTH FORMIn accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia law, each camper must provide Cape Henry Collegiate with a copy of the health form MCH-213G before the first day of camp. The completed MCH-213G must include documentation of all age appropriate immunizations and a physical examination. All documents must include the date of the physical exam, and the examining physician must sign the immunization form. This health form is required for enrollment in all independent and public schools. The school your child attends will have a copy of this form on file. Cape Henry Collegiate students do not need to submit this form for Summer Programs, since it is already on file.

LUNCHA lunch in Café Dolphin is included in all full-day camps unless otherwise noted. If lunch is not included with the camp, you may purchase lunch for $30 per week.

MEDICALThere will be a Camp Nurse on campus from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is less than five minutes from Cape Henry’s campus. Any severe emergencies requiring immediate medical attention will be taken to SVBGH either by car or ambulance. If a camper takes medication, a separate form will be sent to the parent for specific instructions and a doctor’s authorization. This form and the medication must be given to either the Director of Auxiliary Programs or the Camp Nurse by the parent/guardian of the camper.

PROOF OF IDENTITYCHC specialty and day camps, academic courses, and the Extended School Day Program (ESDP) are licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services, and they require us to document the identity and age of any child enrolling in these programs. Proof of your child’s identity may include a birth certificate or a birth registration card. If your child is not currently an enrolled student at Cape Henry Collegiate, you will need to bring this documentation to the School prior to the start of camp. We are sorry if this is an inconvenience; however, under the law, we must follow this procedure. Thank you for your understanding with this legal requirement.

*Athletic camps are not licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services and do not require proof of birth on Virginia School Health Entrance forms.

REGISTRATIONEarly registration is encouraged. Camp sizes are limited. Payment in full, including extended care, is due with your registration. You must register and pay for a full week of camp even if the child will not be there the entire week. Your child is not considered registered for a camp unless full payment has been received. Registrations may be completed online. No phone or faxed registration will be accepted. If you have any questions regarding Summer Programs, please contact the Director of Auxiliary Programs at (757) 963-8241.

SNACK TIMEA ten-minute morning and afternoon snack time will be scheduled for all specialty and day camps and academic courses.

SPECIAL PICK-UP DURING CAMP HOURSAny child leaving camp during camp hours must be picked up in the Lower School Office by a parent, guardian, or family member. Advance notice is greatly appreciated. Please inform the Director of Auxiliary Programs and your child’s camp instructor in writing/email of early departures.

SUMMER PROGRAMS OFFICEThe Lower School Office will serve as the Summer Programs Office during the summer months. The Summer Program’s direct dial number is (757) 963-8252. Prior to June 1, please contact the Director of Auxiliary Programs at (757) 963-8241 with questions.

SWIMMING LEVELSIf a camper will be participating in the Little Dolphins, Sandfiddlers, or Dolphins Camps, parents must indicate the child’s current swim level. When registering online, please read each level description carefully to determine the appropriate placement for your child.

EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY PROGRAM/ BEFORE- AND AFTER-CAMP DAYCAREThis program is a service provided for parents who require extended care for rising Prekin-dergarten through Grade 5 children before and after regular Summer Program hours. The exceptional staff plans recreational activities, craft projects, and much more each day. An afternoon snack is provided for the campers.

LITTLE DOLPHINS FOR CHILDREN 3 AND 4 YEARS OLDThe Little Dolphins Camp is flexible in that a parent can choose either a half-day or a full-day program. The Little Dolphins Camp will focus on a different and exciting theme each week, and many of the daily activities will reflect the week’s theme. Campers will partici-pate in a variety of activities in the morning, including swimming two times per week, visual arts, reading, mathematics, and creative play. Little Dolphins swim lessons take place at the Seatack Recreation Center on Monday and Wednesday mornings. Parents may elect for children not to participate in the swim instruction program. In the afternoons, campers will take a nap and enjoy playground time and free play. Campers must bring a bathing suit, pool shoes, and a towel clearly marked with the child’s name. All students will also need to bring a change of clothes for their return from the pool. A snack will be provided in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Children enrolled in other morning or afternoon programs may join the Little Dolphins Camp. All children must be toilet trained. Please note that if joining the Little Dolphins Camp only for the afternoon session, there will be a nap during that time.

SANDFIDDLERS FOR CHILDREN 5 AND 6 YEARS OLDThe Sandfiddlers Camp is flexible in that a parent can choose either a half-day or full-day program. The Sandfiddlers Camp will focus on a different and exciting theme each week, and many of the daily activities will reflect the week’s theme. Campers will participate in a variety of activities in the morning, including swimming two times per week, reading, mathematics, creative play, and arts and crafts. Daily activities might include art, cooking lessons, athletic games, exploring with science, and more. Campers will also receive swim instruction at the Great Neck Recreation Center on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Campers must bring a bathing suit, pool shoes, and a towel clearly marked with the child’s name each day. A snack will be provided in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

ABRAKADOODLE: PAWS, CLAWS AND HOOVES! ART CAMP From pets to dragons, bring your imagination and we will provide a ROAAAAARing camp experience! Using paints, collage, sculpture and more, we will bring your favorite animal creatures to life while learning about their habits and habitats. There will be cool artwork, games, stories, activities, animal talk, and music. If you LOVE animals and nature, and want to make awesome art projects while making new friends too, then this is the camp for you. Whether it’s a growl or a meow, it will be FUN.

Camp Build It! encourages collaboration as well as the develop-ment of individual skills and brain power. Kids have fun while making new friends, develop-ing skills and confidence, learning with the staff, and making awesome projects!

ABRAKADOODLE: CRAYOLA LA!We celebrate Crayola® and fabulous things you can imagine using their products! We create with Crayola watercolors, Model Magic modeling compound, chalk, tempera paints, special crayons, oil pastels, acrylic paints, and more while exploring color, designing vertical garden sculptures, and building nocturnal animals. Bubbles pop with drawing chalk! A still life explodes onto paper with construction paper crayons and watercolors. Don’t forget oil pastels that inspire lively molas. BABYSITTINGWould you like to become a certified babysitter? An instructor from the Tidewater Center for Life Support will instruct girls and boys ages 9 to 14 in the skills of being a confident sitter. This three-day camp will instruct campers in child-care skills including feeding and bathing a baby, changing a diaper, infant and child CPR, basic first aid, talking to potential clients, and much more. At the end, you will be awarded a certificate and card that you can show to prove you are a certified babysitter! Maximum of 15 campers at each session–so sign up early!

CHESAPEAKE BAY ADVENTURE CAMPThis exciting new camp offers the opportunity to see and experience the Chesapeake Bay environmental region in all of its glory. The Chesapeake Bay Watershed is the largest estu-ary in North America! Explore this unique Watershed environment by both land and water through a variety of exciting outdoor adventures each day. Board a local oyster fishing boat to learn about oyster farming and cultivation; hike historic trails that buffer the land from the beautiful coastal waters of the Bay; explore the local environment from the perspective of the newest, most environmentally smart buildings and programs in the WORLD! CHESSAbsolute pin, battery, checkmate, dead draw, en passant? Confused? Don’t be! Learn the game of kings with Mr. August Vander Werff. See how playing chess can help campers enhance their creativity, improve their power of concentration, develop and expand critical thinking skills, boost memory and retention, and achieve higher academic performance. Chess has been shown to augment problem-solving capabilities, provide cultural enrich-ment, advance intellectual maturity, and enhance self-esteem. Not to mention, chess is fun!

COOKING FUNIt’s time to whip up some fun and something good to eat! Your child will love a newfound independence in the kitchen, and you will love enjoying the benefits of your child’s culinary skills.

DANCE FOR LOWER SCHOOLThis one-week camp will strengthen the technical skills of the dancers while exposing them to multiple dance styles. It includes ballet, tap, and jazz. Dancers will also enjoy a daily dance education time in which they will learn about additional dance styles and view excit-ing dance videos. The last day of the camp will include a short dance performance. Ballet and tap shoes required.

DANCE INTENSIVE (TWO WEEKS)This two-week summer Dance Intensive runs for three hours, twice a week in the evening. It consists of one hour of ballet, one hour of jazz, contemporary or modern, and 45 minutes of choreography. (Students also get a 15-minute snack break). Dance Intensive is offered to students 8 years and up. It is intended for those who are strongly driven to excel in dance and wish to improve their technical skills, muscle strength, and power.

DIY! PHOTO TRANSFERS! Regardless of your level as an artist, learning how to create image transfers will introduce you to an entirely new avenue of creating and designing personalized memorabilia. Photo transfers are an extremely diverse technique and can be successfully completed on almost any material, including fabric, wood, glass, plastic and more. UNITED STATES HISTORYThe United States History course entails the study of the political, institutional, cultural, and ideological history of the American people from the pre-Colombian era to the present day. In order to help students understand our common heritage and to learn how to develop their own analytical thinking, written, and verbal communication skills, multiple techniques are used. Students in the summer school course will be introduced to the material through a combination of lecture, multimedia, and their own research. Significant attention is given to risk awareness, driver alertness, and responsible actions relative to occupant protection devices, positive interactions with other roadway users, and the physical and psychological conditions that affect driver performance. Students will use knowledge, processes and skills learned in driver education to help them become com-petent users of the highway transportation system. DOLPHINS ALL-STAR FIELD HOCKEY CAMP Focus on fundamentals and small number situations, mixed with some full field games and plenty of fun. Brand-new artificial turf facility for outside play and air-conditioned indoor spaces when needed. Campers will be grouped based on age and ability. First 50 campers to register will receive a shoulder bag and reversible jersey. Mission: For our youngest campers, the goal is to introduce the basic skills and create a love for the sport of field hockey. Our intermediate players will sharpen their fundamentals while learning the more advanced skills necessary to take their game to the next level. Outdoor and indoor play will challenge our most advanced players to make quicker decisions, refine ball control, and add collegiate-style skills to their repertoire with a strategic approach. Entering her 13th season as Cape Henry’s Varsity Head Coach, Coach Wheeler has led her teams to 12 consecutive state tournament appearances, captured four State Championship Titles, earned four TCIS Coach of the Year honors, three TCIS Championship Titles, and two TCIS Regular Season Titles. Highlights from Coach Wheeler’s 30-plus years of field hockey experience include working with the U.S. Women’s National and Olympic Team in 1996, coaching with White Mountain Sports College Connec-tion and the USFHA Futures Program, helping players achieve All-American, Academic All-American, All-Region, All-State, and All-Conference status, and helping to facilitate collegiate playing opportunities. A state champion at Cox High School and a Division I player at Virginia Commonwealth University, Coach Wheeler now lives in Virginia Beach with her husband, Johnny, and two daughters, Hope (CHC ’17) and Kylie (CHC ’22).

NEXT GENERATION BOYS LACROSSEJoin the “Next Generation” for two exciting weeks of the fastest growing sport. The Next Generation Lacrosse Camp staff is made up of current high school coaches, highly trained college athletes, and current high school players who know and love the game of lacrosse while demonstrating positive character and sportsmanship. Our philosophy is that to love the game you must respect your competition and have fun playing, and that is what we strive for in all of our camps. The focus of the camp is to teach fundamental skills while enjoying the excitement of the game, and to benefit from the camaraderie and lessons lacrosse offers. Beginning and experienced campers will enjoy skill building sessions, counselor demonstrations, and the opportunity to test their skills in numerous game-like scenarios.

The Next Generation Beginner Camp is for beginning players only. Basic instruction will be given to teach the fundamentals the game is built on, and campers will sharpen those skills in small-sided games and competitions. The Next Generation Skills Camp is for beginning and experienced players. Each camper will be met at their ability level, and they will focus on game fundamentals, game rules and concepts, and the fun of playing.

THE 25TH ANNUAL VIRGINIA ALL-STAR SOCCER CAMPThe longest running and most enjoyable soccer camp in Virginia Beach returns for its 25th year of camp instruction. We take great pride in offering the best soccer camp experience in Hampton Roads. From the beginning player to the advanced player, the curriculum is designed to teach skills and strategies used at the individual and team levels. Each day begins with fundamental instruction and follows a planned sequence of activities that builds confidence and enthu-siasm for the game of soccer. We offer an action-packed week where players will leave feeling great about their camp experience.

Full-day campers will receive lunch and drinks daily, while half-day campers will receive a snack and drink daily.

All campers will receive a camp ball, T-shirt, water bottle, bag, and a medal. Daily awards will be presented for hustle, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
