Summer Assignment: Studio Art II As a Sequential Art Student at St. Edmund, you have the opportunity to take at least seven semesters of art courses. The Sequential Art Program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills you will need to prepare for college-level courses in art and design. This will not happen without your hard work and dedication. Whether you are a Sequential Art Student now, or just intend on taking Studio Art II as an elective class, your acceptance into this course was based upon a commitment to art that is not confined to the walls of neither the classroom nor the limits of the school year. The assignments below are to be completed over the summer and will be collected during the first week of school. Portraits Choose any TWO of the approved photos (attached). Using only pencil on the paper provided, draw the two portraits in the boxes. You have the entire summer to complete this, so I will be expecting two quality pieces of work that took a significant amount of time to finish. You must attempt to render (draw) any shadows and refrain from drawing lines that don’t exist in the photograph. Tracing is NOT PERMITTED and is considered plagiarism. These are due the first day of class in the Fall and will count as your first Studio Art II grade. Follow the instructions that are on the paper provided. Learn About Art Make it your goal to learn as much as possible about different artists throughout art history. Go to museums and art galleries as much as possible; check out “teen night” at several local museums if you can. You will need to know about the work of many different artists for this course and over the next three years. Becoming familiar with the following artists’ work will help you significantly: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt van Rijn, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Salvador Dali, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Georgia O’Keefe, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Have a great summer! I will be in the gallery from time-to-time and would love to see how your work is progressing. Don’t hesitate to email me if you have questions.

Summer Assignment: Studio Art II

As a Sequential Art Student at St.

Portraits

Choose any TWO of the approved photos (attached).

Learn About Art

Make it your goal to learn as much as possible about different artists throughout art history.
