21ST CENTURY PREPARATORY SCHOOL SUMMER SESSION 2018

Monday through Thursday July 9-12; July 16-19; July 23-26

8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Mandatory for students in grades 4K-7

Our mandatory summer session will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday through

Thursday, July 9 through July 26. Breakfast will be served from 7:15-7:50 a.m., and lunch will be

provided. The three-week summer session is for students currently in four-year old kindergarten

through seventh grade.

In the morning, students will strengthen their academic skills. In the afternoon, students in

kindergarten through seventh grade can select from their choice of camps found in this brochure.

Our 4K students will stay with their teachers for the entire day. Middle school students will have the

opportunity to participate in college visits.

Since summer school is a mandatory part of our charter, if you child is not attending for a reason

such as participating in another summer enrichment program or a court-mandated family obligation,

you must complete and return the non-participation form.

KINDERGARTEN THROUGH FOURTH GRADE CAMP CHOICES

SESSION 1

Camp Description

Academic Games Grades K-2

Learn while playing fun, academic games! Team up with kids from different grade levels to practice your knowledge in reading, math, science, and social studies. Some games you will play include Banagrams, Math 24, National Geographic, and Bingo.

Basketball Camp Grades 3-4

If you love to be active and want to learn about the game of basketball, then come shoot the ball! This camp will teach the fundamentals of the game of basketball. You will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot the ball as well as how to work as a team. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Be a Musical Star! Grades 3-4

Love to sing? Act? PERFORM? This summer class is for you! Get ready to have fun while preparing a musical for your friends and family. You will get to enjoy all parts of putting a musical together! Costume and set design, solos, acting, and dance! Let’s have fun making music this summer!

Camp Invention Grades K-4

Join this hands-on program which will teach you how to think like a scientist. You will collaborate, play, create, construct, and deconstruct to learn about the world around you. Camp Invention helps promote the 21st century skills you will need to be successful.

Chefs of Tomorrow Grades K-2

Measure, mix, and make delicious food on a cooking adventure! Learn how to make healthy eating fun. We will make treats and snacks every day. At the end of the camp, you will leave with your very own cookbook to impress your family and friends.

Classic Games Grades K-4

Have you ever wondered what sort of games your grandparents played before the digital age? In our camp, we will play classic board and card games, learning new strategies, practicing our math skills, thinking ahead, taking turns, and becoming good sports. Unplug yourself and join us for some fun!

Creative Kids Camp Grades K-4

Are you a creative kid with a creative mind? Join the fun to explore your creativity! Express yourself by reaching beyond and creating art that is unique to YOU. Included in this club will be summer-themed art lessons, stories, projects, laughter, and fun!

Go for the Gold Grades K-4

Be a part of the 21st Century Preparatory School Olympics! You and your team will learn about the countries that participate every four years through crafts and activities. Each day you will compete in Olympic Games with your team—both inside and out! Who will win the GOLD?!

Fairytales, Dragons & Magic Forests Grades K-2

Once upon a time, there was a child who loved fantastical adventures and artwork. That child is you! We will read play scripts and unique versions of fairy tales, and even create our own twists. We will freely enjoy creating special projects to entice the characters into our magical kingdom.

Movin’ & Groovin’ Dance Camp Grades K-4

Come learn new dance moves, a choreographed routine, and release your energy in this active camp! Bring your dance clothes and athletic shoes, and be ready for some movement! We will be performing our routine at the end of the camp for friends and family to see!

Nature Art Grades K-4

Do you like arts and crafts? Do you like the outdoors or nature? We will be creating some artwork with natural objects such as seashells, driftwood, and pinecones. We will be creating some artwork that shows scenes from nature. Weather permitting, we could even do that outside!

Pinkalicious Power Grades K-4

Calling all children who love stories of whimsical characters and imaginative adventures! Each day, we will read or listen to a story by author Victoria Khan. Then, we will participate in activities or create a special project that Pinkalicious would love!

STEM Camp Grades K-4

Would you like to be a scientist or engineer when you grow up? If so, this is your camp! In three weeks, we will be engineering various Lego builds, diving into the world of computer science and coding, practicing our typing skills, as well as completing an array of science experiments.

Travel the World Grades K-4

Learn about many different cultures while we travel around the world together. We will dance, make crafts, play games, and eat food from a variety of countries. Each day, we will visit a new country and stamp it in our passports! Travel, learn, and have fun around the world!

Cheer Skills Clinic Grades 3-4

Students will learn the basic skills of cheering. Skills learned will range from motions, types of jumps and proper stretching and warming up. Students will learn 5-7 cheers and the fundamentals of stunting. Athletic shoes will be REQUIRED for this session or students will have to sit out for part of the session for safety.

Creative Writing Grades K-4

Do you want the chance to use your creativity to express yourself in writing? Then this elite course is for you! Students will write graphic novels, children’s stories, hip-hop songs, and more.

Once Upon a STEM Story Grades K-4

Do you love hearing stories AND building projects to go along with them? If you do, then this is the best course for you! We will read classic stories and use our engineering minds to build something to go alone with them! We will test our creations when we’re done!

Pins and Needles Grades K-4

There are more to needles than shots at the doctors. Learn how to do basic sewing stiches and crafts. We will be learning how to hand sew, cross stich, sew buttons, and make pillows. If time permits, extra projects may be added. So come sew with us!

Poetry Cafe Grades K-4

Do you like writing and being creative? Do you enjoy poetry? Do you like music and food? Get ready for a relaxing time as we create poetry while listening to music and enjoying cafe food. You will design and construct a unique poetry portfolio to take home!

Relay Fun Grades K-4

Teamwork is the key to success! Students will learn to work as a team using different items like hula hoops, a ball, potato sacks, cups of water, spoons and other different items to have fun relay races.

STEM + Art = STEAM Grades K-4

Art turns Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) into STEAM! We will create art that has some connection to science. If you like science experiments or learning about different types of science, but you also like art, then this is the camp for you!

Weave, Sparkle, Pop Grades K-4

Are you creative? Do you like arts and crafts? If so, then this is the camp for you! In this camp we will be creating different arts and crafts each week, including weaving our own bags!

Yoga Mind and Body Grades K-4

Join us on a wellness adventure! Explore how yoga can calm, strengthen and refocus your body and mind! Learn how to make healthy and delicious snacks. Discover how yoga can be used in games and stories.

KINDERGARTEN THROUGH FOURTH GRADE CAMP CHOICES

Camp Description

STEAM Movers and Makers

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math come to life with fun and games! You will work on mini projects that consist of the marble maze, domino track, creating decals using technology, and creating a game with moving parts.

Scratch— Imagine, Program, Share

With Scratch, you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations and share your creations with others in the online community. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively—essential skills for life in the 21st century.

Getting Creative and Gross in STEAM

Sharpen your Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math skills in this interactive course. Activities will include but not limited to journal-making, mini-rainbow string art, inspirational rocks, dissecting cow eyeballs, and fossil casting.

Treasure Hunter In Training

Have you always dreamed of finding a hidden treasure? Do you enjoy a good puzzle that requires deep thinking? We will be using our problem-solving skills this summer to search for hidden treasures! Activities will include geocaching, escape rooms, and much, much more!

Outdoor Urban Adventures in Racine

Learn about sustainability, water quality, and social justice in the environment through rain garden maintenance, invasive removal, prairie work, water testing, insect surveys, fire building, and much more (including canoeing!). Be ready to explore the outdoors in Racine and how it connects to our everyday lives.

Nascar Acceleration Nation

Have you heard of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. or Jeff Gordon? Do you find fast cars fascinating? Come learn all about the science of acceleration and how cars really work. Over the course of the summer, students will be creating a workable model car to race.

Super Science

Did you know every day things found around your house or apartment can help you understand science? Come be immersed in the fantastic world of science. You will conduct hands-on activities and experiments with common household items which you might be able to try at home!
