From the PastorDear Parishioners,

The Saint John Vianney Summer Festival will take place on July 13, 14, 15 & 16. Please pray for good weather and for the safety of all who will visit the parish over the four day period. The Festival is a wonderful opportunity for parishioners to come together and have a good time and to also welcome our neighbors to visit our parish for what has come to be known as the most family-friendly festival in Lake County.

Popular AttractionsIn addition to the very popular Festival slide, the tunnel crawl, the train, and the Pirate Ship, we have two new festival attractions this summer: Hand Crank Cars and a new Nine-Hole Putt-Putt Course. I am certain that both will be popular with the children and parents. We also have some new food items at the Pavilion Food Booth and the Fast Food Booth, and I know that Glenn from Cater to You will keep the tradition going of serving good quality food at our festival. I am looking forward especially to the BBQ Ribs and Chicken—two of the more popular food items every year. We also have some new Midway Game Booths and there is a great line-up of entertainment, especially in the main Entertainment Tent each evening.

Festival MusicThe very popular dance band, Disco Inferno, will play on Friday evening at 7:00 as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of All Saints Elementary School. I am extending a special invitation to the All Saints Alumni to attend that night and to reconnect with their classmates as we celebrate this special moment in the history of our parish. We will have some All Saints memorabilia near the tent and will play All Saints Trivia when the band takes breaks. The Don Wojtila Polka Band once again will play the Polka Mass on Sunday at 12:15 in the church and then will continue playing in the Entertainment Tent after Mass. Check elsewhere in this edition of Tidings to see a list of all the festival entertainment and special attractions.

Fellowship and FunThis year’s festival will also be a good time to meet the new priests who will be working or living at our parish: Fr. John Sullivan who recently retired after 50 years of service as a priest, and Fr. Peter Morris, a newly-ordained priest assigned as our new parochial vicar. Some of our former associate pastors will likely visit us over the four-day period. I know Fr. Roach will be with us Saturday afternoon and Fr. John Betters continues to be such a good friend and supporter of the Summer Festival each year.

Check the parish bulletin to see where we still need help to make the festival a success and please do the best you can to sell your share of the raffle tickets for the car or cash prizes. God bless you and hope to see you at the festival.

TIDINGS | 3

Fr. Jacob Bearer has been assigned as parochial vicar of Saint Francis de Sales Parish in Akron.

Fr. Peter Bang has been assigned to Holy Angels Parish in Bainbridge.

Fr. Jim Roach has been assigned as parochial vicar of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Litchfield.

Editor’s Note: Tidings recently sat with Fr. Morris to glean a few highlights about the parish’s new parochial vicar. What follows is a summary of what we learned:

Q. How did you feel when you learned about your first assignment? A. I was really excited. And as I thought and reflected more on it I realized how lucky I am to be assigned here.

Q. Do you have a plan for getting acclimated? A. I am going to get the best sense and feel for the community by getting to meet as many parishioners as I can. I will attend as many events and activities as I can and am looking upon the upcoming festival as a wonderful place to start.

Q. Have you thought about the ministries you would like to be involved with? A. I am not 100% certain of all the ministries that the parish offers and I am eager to discover and take part in those that I had not previously considered. These include the youth group, All Saints School, and the activities of teens in general.

Q. What gifts do you feel you bring to our parish? A. The main gift, among others, and the one I feel most strongly about, is the desire to kindle a relationship between our Lord and His people. Many of my homilies, my spirituality, and prayer rest on the foundation that our connection to the Lord is a personal relationship and not something akin to a business relationship. There are times when I, and I am sure others, tend to forget that. We should all seek and maintain that fire in our hearts.

Q. What do you do for recreation? A. Board games because they bring people together to have fun and healthy competition (my favorite is “Takanoko” which is too complex to explain here so parishioners can ask me about it), movies, and baking desserts. In the future I hope to learn how to smoke meat, brew beer, and try my hand at woodworking though I don’t know how much time I will have to devote to all these.

Q. What else would you like to share with the flock? A. I am ¼ Russian, ¼ Polish, ¼ Irish, and ¼ Slovak.

Thanks Father and welcome aboard.

Crews are working hard to get the Trolley-hand cars and Toonstone Putt-Putt course completed by the start of the parish festival.

New Attractions Premier at the 2017 SJV FestivalYou won’t want to miss our new family-friendly attractions at the festival this year!

Trolley Hand CarsThe trolley hand cars will require riders to use their hands to power a “car” around a 225' track. The track lays partially on a stone base at ground level and partially on wooden support beams so riders won’t face a troublesome uphill ride. The track has rails, just like the neighboring SJV railroad and includes steel wheels. Len Pizem, Lou Paradiso, Rick Offak, and Chan Bleil have been instrumental in the design and construction.

Toonstone Putt-Putt Course A new putt-putt course has been installed in the area inside the trolley hand car track behind the former Administration Center. Len and Lou assisted with laying out the nine putt-putt holes—each having some distinguishing features, so be sure to come play!

On Saturday, April 15, we welcomed 13 wonderful people into full communion with the Catholic Church. Six people celebrated the sacrament of Baptism and all 13 celebrated Confirmation and received Eucharist for the first time. It was a truly beautiful culmination to a year of prayer, growth in the knowledge and love of Christ and insight into our faith. Fr. Roach, as presider, inspired us and left the neophytes with the thought that this great feeling they were experiencing could indeed, remain with them always. The RCIA process will begin on Wednesday, August 30 at 7:15pm in the Chapel. If you or someone you know wants to learn more about the Catholic faith, please contact a member of our pastoral staff.

We would like to thank you for your prayerful support as we end another successful year. We remain grateful for the commitment the parish makes to our school.

This was a very special year for our school as we celebrated our 40th anniversary. It was wonderful to meet many of our founding parents and hear their stories about our school opening in 1977.

We have a dedicated staff who do so much for our students. This year they visited Lake Farm Park, Holden Arbor-etum, the Natural History Museum, and Chapin Forest. They also took a ride through Cleve land on Lolly the Trolley, raised money to fight cancer and diabetes, collected food for SJV food bank, reenacted the Nativity, the Stations of the Cross and the Passion, sang Christmas Carols at a nursing home, and visited Mentor Cemetery

Another special thank you is extended to our parishes. Fr. Tom Johns has been instrumental in the operation of the school. Fr. Jim Roach, Fr. Clyde Foster, Mrs. Mary Kovach, Fr. Steve Breck, Pastor of St. Mary Magdalene and Fr. Kevin Liebhardt, Pastor of St. Justin Martyr have been in the classrooms and celebrating liturgies. Thanks for all they do!

We closed the year with a Mass and asked God to be with us and keep us safe during the summer. Scholarships were awarded to some very deserving students.

Finally, we had a ceremony honoring the graduates of 2017. We wish them good luck and know they will make us proud!

On behalf of the students, parents and staff at All Saints, have a wonderful summer, filled with peace and happiness. We hope to see all of you at the festival!

to clean the graves of the military.Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our

Principal, Mr. Mike Fasciano, who passed away in November. We will truly miss his smile and know he is watching over us!

We couldn’t do all we do at All Saints without the help of our volunteers who help to plan and organize so many activities: homeroom moms and dads, penny/silver war counters, Jr. Achievement volunteers, bakers, servers for our Thanksgiving Feast, McDonald’s lunch servers, picnic volunteers and so much more.

The PAC committee has contributed by helping to promote the school and organize fundraisers. We enjoyed the Fall Festival, Trunk or Treat Night, the Fr. Kline 5K/Rose Wilson 1M, the Boxtops Competition and the Ladies Luncheon! Thanks to all of our parents and volunteers.
