steven: Roy Kizer links style with big fairways, beautiful greens, cool breezes, and the best warm-up putting greens in town.will: Lions is the best of Austin with lots of beautiful live oaks! Classy but still laid back (dogs allowed, but may follow your ball into the water at 13), and you can order a delicious Player's Burger at hole 8 to be waiting for you at hole 9.
will: Riverside has great breakfast tacos in the pro shop & it’s easy to grab morning tee times. You can’t officially buy beer in the clubhouse, but if you ask real nice...steven: Lions has a great local history and feel. I love the short par 4 dog leg right to start on hole #1 & Deep Eddy Cabaret is next door.
SR & WF agree Lions is the Best!

You Can't Beat a Babka
We asked our bakery guru, Jennifer Tucker, and Communications Director, Alex Reichek, to team up on a dessert. Jennifer, who has lent her talents to all of our restaurants (and began by making salads and shucking oysters), now oversees the bakery & dessert programs as Executive Pastry Chef. Alex—as evidenced by her blog, @chekmarkeats—may harbor the most ferocious sweet tooth in Austin.
This dream team's creation — a Chocolate Babka Ice Cream Cone! — will be available for a limited time from July 5th – 20th at June’s All Day!
Have you always had a sweet tooth? First memory of a specific dessert/candy? alex: Both of my grandmothers always had chocolate waiting for me when I came to visit. Also, when my mom would make cookies I would eat them with my eggs for breakfast the next day. This must be why my blood runs on sugar.jennifer: Full disclosure—I have never been a huge dessert person. I love bread and coffee and beer! What about Reese's Cups?jennifer: I do like Reese’s…but candy isn’t as good as it used to be! I used to love Butterfingers and I tried to eat one around Halloween and it was basically inedible.alex: Miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the best because I like the chocolate edges!
Fave thing to make? Most loathsome?alex: I can bake but it’s too dangerous. I do love making unique concoctions like cookie dough topped brownies and ice cream pie.jennifer: I like to make bread, croissants, anything dough related. I hate to write on cakes!
Favorite MMH dessert? Non-MMH desserts in Austin?alex: My favorite MMH dessert is the Monster Cookie at June’s or any of the ice creams on rotation at Josephine House. Non-MMH — the ice cream stackers at Cow Tipping Creamery or Picnik’s Blondie.
Baker you most admire in Austin?jennifer: There are a lot of talented bakers in town, but Alex Manley is definitely my role model.
Go try the new ice cream cone at June’s!

Jedd Away
Jedd Adair, our Executive Chef, is at home in all seven kitchens. But this is nothing new: before coming to Austin Jedd cooked in eight countries, includ-ing Hong Kong, France and… Kazakh-stan! His first kitchen job, at eighteen, was in Lake Tahoe. Jedd describes some of his travels and offers some tips for summer cooking:
Q: First foreign cuisine that captured your imagination?A: I've always loved Chinese food—the use of potently fragrant ingredients, chilies, spices, salt substitution in soy or vinegars, and the family-oriented serving tradition. Q: Favorite city in the world for eating? Favorite local cuisine?A: Loved the food in Hong Kong, rows and rows of noodle shops, meat shops, and seafood specialties. However for local cuisine I would have to give it to Romania, where the majority of the cuisine is made of different methods to serve sausage; it’s unreal. Soups to lasagna-style spice layered sausage & cabbage (one of the best things I’ve ever eaten), everything is served with chilies and fresh fermented cream. Q: Favorite summer meal at home? A: Swordfish Caesar with a grain salad; the "Caesar" part is really just a simple blended paste made from mayonnaise, pecorino, scallion bottoms, garlic and capers. Spread that on the swordfish and broil until the paste is golden brown, top with sautéed scallion tops, lemon and a grain salad. Q: Cookbook you use most during the summer? A: "Fresh From the Market" by Laurent Tourondel. I know he’s my previous employer but the recipes are easy and amazing. Especially the desserts. 1

Garden Tip & Summer Drink by Daisy Ryan, Assistant Beverage Director
Plant mint under leaky hose bibs or wherever excess water pools up. Mint is difficult to over-water and flourishes when it gets a lot. Mint is great in salads and iced tea, especially my mom's recipe which can be combined with Topo Chico and simple syrup to make an easy cocktail:
Spiked Mint Sun Tea 4 oz Mint Sun Tea
11/2 oz Preferred booze. Bourbon &
Vodka are recommended.
1 oz Mint simple syrup
(1/2 sugar, 1/2 boiling water, steep
with mint, and cool)
Make Mint Sun Tea by placing 3-4 bags of
black tea and a bunch of mint in a large water
pitcher. Place in a sunny spot and tea will be
ready in a few hours. Add all room temperature
ingredients to glass. Top with ice and Topo
Chico. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
