  • Professional Programs for Engineers and Scientists (PFPR)Engineering and Science Services (ESS) is offering the following professional programs in Summer 2013: Computer-AidedEngineering(CADE)

    Professional Program RequirementsEach of the professional programs includes six courses, divided between required and elective classes. Each course is made up of 45 hours of instruction. Candidates must complete the required classes, but electives may be selected from a group of courses offered. A candidate in one program may take one course as an elective from the list of courses offered in other professional programs.To complete the requirements for any of the professional programs, the candidate must successfully complete thesixcourses.Toearn twoprofessionalcertificates,12coursesmustbe taken.At theendof someof theseprograms,thecandidatemustpresentanacceptablefinalproject.Thecertificaterequirementsmaybecompletedin two semesters (one year), but it could take up to three years. Some professional programs are also available via e-learning. Method of InstructionCourse material is in English; however, a mix of English and Arabic instruction is used in classes to facilitate communication between instructors and course participants. Courses blend a variety of instructional tools including case studies, interactive discussions, visual aids and practical sessions.

  • BlackboardAll participants enrolled in ESS professional programs are entitled to access a Blackboard account.     Registration FeeThe registration fee for each program is indicated on the schedule (LE for Egyptians and U.S. dollars for non-Egyptians). The fees may bepaidincashorbyacheckpayabletoTheAmericanUniversityinCairo.Lettersofauthorizationfromcompaniesandorganizationsare acceptable.

    Registration will be held from May 12 to 23, 2013. One personal photo is required for applicants to receive their IDs. Refund PolicyRefunds are made according to the following schedule:Beforethebeginningofclasses:FulltuitionrefundFromthefirstweekofclassesuntiltheendofthesecondweek:50percentoftuitionfeesBytheendofthethirdweek:Norefundswillbemade

    The refund request should be submitted with the original receipt, course material and a copy of the national ID. Applicants will receive a check within one month after submitting their refund request.

    * ESS may cancel a course where enrollment is low. In that case, the participant would be refunded the full amount, or the fees may be used toward the completion of another course during any semester.

  • Drop and Add PolicyParticipants are permitted to drop and transfer classes until June 22, 2013.Incomplete PolicyParticipants who are unable to complete a course because of some exceptional circumstances may ask for an incomplete grade of I. This grade is given with the approval of the course instructor, who will submit an incomplete grade form to the ESSoffice.Theformshouldincludethefollowinginformation:1) Reasons for the incomplete grade2) Sections of the courses that are missed and need to be completed3) Action necessary for removal of the incomplete grade, which must be completed by the end of the following semester An administrative fee of 20 percent of the total course fee will be charged to participants. If necessary action is not taken on time, the incomplete grade I will be changed to a grade estimated on the basis of the work already completed as part of the course. Participantswhodropacourse(stopattending)withoutinformingtheESSofficeinwritingwillreceiveanFinthecourse.Study Period ExtensionProfessional programs usually take three years to complete. However, participants who are faced with hardships or situations beyond their control should present proper documentation to justify their cause. Each case will be closely examined by ESS. In all cases, only one semester of study may be extended.
