On Tuesday, June 26, 2012 the Chicago Department of

Transportation (CDOT), with the help of 40 volunteers, conducted a

bicycle cordon count surrounding the Central Business District

(CBD) along four screenlines; Chicago Avenue, Canal Street,

Harrison Street, and the Lakefront Trail.

Counters recorded the number and gender of bicyclists traveling

inbound during the morning rush hours and outbound during theafternoon rush hours. In total, more than 8,300 cyclists were

counted. It is important to note that during this project the largest

concentration of recorded bicycle trips have been on streets with

bike lanes. While less than / of this summers count locations arepart of the bike network, nearly / of bicyclists traveled these routes.
