Energy Efficiency Grants Expanded: $10 million invested to help energy intensive farm operations reduce their emissions and save on energy bills through efficiency upgrades through expansion of these programs:
1) On-Farm Energy Management Program—the percentage of capital purchases covered increased to 70% from the current 35% and increased the cap on funding to $750,000 (up from $50,000). This program assists with the purchase of equipment that improves energy efficiency or monitors energy consumption. This includes lighting, pumps, meters, boilers, heaters and low-energy, livestock-watering fountains.
2) On-Farm Solar Management—this program assists producers with the purchase of grid-connected solar panel systems that can be used to generate electricity and reduce emissions on farms. There were no changes to funding levels for this program but with the increase to the program budget, it is anticipated that more projects will be funded.
For application forms and information on all of the programs refer to the Growing Forward Website: http://www.growingforward.alberta.ca/Programs.
Apply early as there is limited funding and approvals are on a first come, first serve basis. Be sure to include quotes for any equipment you are planning to purchase, together with your completed application form.
The Business Management Skills Development Program has reopened and is accepting applications. The approved funding list includes training in marketing skills, financial management, risk management, productiv-ity improvement, leadership skills, human resources and farm safety.
