ULTRA has relationships that reflect a strong footprint in both the military and commercial markets. We are proud to have relationships with government partners that include USSOCOM, USMC, the Department of Defense and other government agencies. We also work with defense related corporations including BAE Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems (Sterling Heights and Force Protection), Northrop Grumman, Oshkosh Defense, Lockheed Martin, Plasan, and other North American and International OEM’s.

ULTRA’s manufacturing facility is located in a historically underutilized business zone as defined by the Small Business Administration (SBA). Our 227,000 sq. ft. facility is gated and secured and has a Secured Facility Clearance allowing ULTRA to complete Secret projects. We utilize some of the largest, cutting edge machinery in the world, including equipment that has been custom built for ULTRA. ULTRA has supported several Department of Defense (DoD) programs: MRAP program – the largest and most expedited tactical wheeled vehicle program in DoD procurement history; M-ATV program and US SOCOM’s NSCV and UANSCV programs. All armored vehicle design work, engineering, armor integration and automotive upgrades are performed in this facility.

ULTRA’s approach to vehicle modifications for compliance with requirements and specifications are as follows: Armoring and Integration: Our armoring and survivability design approach is most successful when combined with our ability to integrate and assemble the entire vehicle. Our success in vehicle integration begins with our design process that relies on our understanding of Human Interface Factors including: recognizing visibility and line of sight scenarios vs. occupant placement in relation to pillars and/or structures, steering wheel/pedal assembly placement in relation to seat orientation, restraints and cargo area storage are also highlighted areas of interest while maximizing occupant protection at desired threat levels. All armor, opaque and transparent, will be designed in such a manner as to minimize, to the greatest extent possible, the adverse effects of added weight and mass to the OEM vehicle. Correct weight and material thickness for all armor systems, both opaque and transparent, will be identified during the design of the capsule and loaded into a Vehicle Impact Assessment spreadsheet. During the design process, complete armor capsule FEA simulation will take place to better understand deficiencies, both structural and ballistic, and how to resolve any/all issues found.

Using state of the art technology, our technicians replicate the vehicle interior. A highly precise FARO arm develops an exact digital blueprint of each shape, panel and bend.

As part of ULTRA’s rigorous routine of measurement and design, digital data is transferred to our expert staff of CAD designers. Custom armor patterns are then digitally built into a 3D model.

The Production Floor Plan for our armoring and vehicle integration facility ensures ULTRA is able and capable to efficiently meet the demands of armored vehicle requirements. In full rate production we historically complete 10 full vehicle builds per week.

Our top-of-the line laser cutters can produce parts of all shapes, sizes and thicknesses with tight tolerances. Every piece of armor is precisely cut on our CNC operated Tanaka laser cutting station. This keeps part dimensions accurate and tolerances tight between armor plates resulting in better protection. ULTRA’s 2,000-ton press brake can form steel up to 40 feet in length. Our crew of highly trained welders can expertly produce top-quality welds that meet or exceed all applicable codes.

To reduce weld joints that weaken armor, ULTRA has developed proprietary technology which allows the use of just one piece of armor to cover the entire side of the vehicle. Combines with technology developed for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) and other heavy armor combat programs, ULTRA has pioneered the “box within a box” protection system of the Complete Armor Capsule.

ULTRA strictly adheres to the welding procedures set forth by the AWS structural welding guidelines which are then carried over by the TACOM/TARDEC Ground Combat Vehicle Weld Code for ANSI/AWS D1.1. All welded joints will be appropriately designed to meet the requirements. The opaque portions of the capsule design will be continuously welded throughout the entire vehicle.

The purpose of ULTRA’s Quality Assurance Department is to support continuous quality improvement. Our quality control processes follow the guidelines of ANSI/ISO/ASQ 9001-2008 Standard in conjunction with comprehensive set of Management System Procedures and Work Instructions.

ULTRA’s quality program is designed to minimize quality deficiencies and delays in processing, enhance productivity, and increase customer satisfaction through the detection and prevention of defects and potential operation enhancements in procedures, systems, or material by applying continuous improvement methodology.

All materials are certified, batch-tested and completely traceable. To verify and ensure the integrity of our product, we can trace any part used in armoring any vehicle back to the heat lot and plate number.

ULTRA contracts with accredited third party laboratories to perform full certification testing. Building the best product for your safety requires that ULTRA push vehicles to the limit to find and eliminate weaknesses. We build prototypes prior to full-scale live production and test them to failure. Upon component failure, massive reengineering and remanufacturing follow careful evaluation and inspection processes. We continue this process until the product has reached optimum performance.

We do more than drive our vehicles on a finely paved surface. Knowing real world conditions can vary, especially for our international clients, we actively test our product on our on-premises off-road track. This allows us to safely replicate land geometry in real world situations and verify that our purpose built suspension and braking components can stand the rigors of all situations.
