SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT

The idea of Time bank is to build a community network which gives to itsmembers the opportunity to exchange services with time as the only currency.Anyone can offer services, activities and knowledge and benefit back fromservices according to the needs and interests. our Training Course “Power ofTime” is based on this idea and inspired from our own experience and theexperience of our partners and youth workers as regards hosting, sending andsupervising volunteers. The project is based on a common need : to developthe competences of our young volunteers, including young people with feweropportunities, to favor their integration in the host community, to develop theirself-confidence and to preserve their motivation with a view to enhance theimpact of our volunteering project and trigger a dynamic inside our localsocieties where the volunteers, the citizen and the local young people will bethe principal agents.

In our cooperation with the volunteers we are facing some challengingsituations such as :

- Some volunteers have difficulty in making human ties, taking initiatives orlead a pedagogical activity in the host community, and this happens despitethe support offered by the host organization. This might make the volunteerfeel isolated or lose his/her motivation.

- Some youth with special needs need to participate in tailor-made trainingcourses for the whole period of their volunteering in order to be able to benefitfrom a better integration inside the host community, to accomplish their tasksand to develop key competences at various levels ; competences which areuseful for both the project and their future professional career.

Exchanging services among the volunteers and the local citizens will pave theway to positive interactions, furthering the participants well being in the hostcommunity and supporting the tutors’ and supervisors’ role during theimplementation of volunteering projects for optimal results attained for thebenefit of our volunteers and the local people.

For the reasons and conditions aforementioned, the Time Bank proves to be anefficient means ; it supports well the role of the actors of volunteeringactivities/ projects and endures a socio-educational and technical assistancewhich is up to their needs all along the project in hand. Thus, they can developmore their competences, optimize the results of their projects, broaden theirconnection with their peers and the local society and get ready for aprofessional career.

AIMS OF OUR TRAINING COURSE

1- To offer to youth workers and youth leaders engaged in volunteeringprogrammes the opportunity to exchange and acquire knowledge, skills andkey competences about the management of a mutual aid network called as“The Bank of Time”, as well as methods of energizing the volunteers in therealization of this efficient network for learning, interaction & inclusion.

2- To enable the beneficiaries of this project to update their working methodsand optimize their support to the volunteers.

3- To promote the adoption of innovative practices of supporting youngvolunteers, through a personalized and collaborative learning process, astrategic use of new I.C.T. and open educational resources, in order to access toa free and accessible learning process based on exchange of time units.

4- To enable young volunteers to set up or join a network of mutual aid withintheir host communities with a view for them to develop social interactions,satisfy their needs of leanings, diversify their knowledge at no cost and feeluseful and well-integrated in the host communities.

5- To develop new pedagogical approaches which encourage the learningparticipation and the services’ exchange among volunteers while enhancingthe role of the youth workers to enhance the impacts of volunteering projects.

BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE ACTIVITIES

The activities implemented will focus on the exchange of information and good practices, the acquisition of knowledge and the experimentation to bring out constructive and creative collective reflections. The phases of our program of activities are as follow:

1- Icebreaking, presentation of activities and methods.

2- Theoretical approach and exchange of experience & good practice.

3- Cultural discovery.

4- Meeting with ESC and local volunteers involved in Lefkada Time banknetwork.

5- Experimental workshop on the topic.

6- Collective creativity: creating prototype of Time bank platform.

7- Feedback and dissemination.

8- Open space and final evaluation.

PARTICIPANT’S PROFILE

Our project will involve 38 participants, including two trainers, mainly in thefield of international youth mobility, such as tutors, supervisors of volunteers,coordinators of volunteer projects, teachers and ex-volunteers involved withNGO. We will involve youth workers supporting the inclusion and youthempowerment, in particular of the most vulnerable (youth with special needsand/or fewer opportunities).

Partners that are currently implementing a time bank will involve at least oneparticipant active in this activity. Moreover, the participants will be selectedregarding their motivation for the subject concerned, their willingness to openup to a European-wide project and the contribution they intend to offer to theyouth and their local community as a result of the skills gained during thisproject.

VENUE

Our project will take place in Lefkada island.The island of Lefkada, also called Lefkas, is the fourth largest island of theIonian Islands, after Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Corfu. It has an area of 303square kilometres, a coastline of 117 kilometres and a population of about23.000 inhabitants. ACCOMMODATION & FOOD

You will be hosted in "Hotel LEFKAS" which is in the centre of the city at the seaside very close to cafes, bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, internet café etc.http://www.hotel-lefkas.gr/

You will sleep in rooms of 2 or 3 beds with bathroom and television, in eachbedroom. The Internet connection is only in the lobby and in the bar. You willtake your meals in the same hotel. You will taste typical Greek and Lefkadianplates. Sometimes you will have meals in one close restaurant. If you havesome special needs for food (vegetarian etc.), please, inform us about itbeforehand. We can provide you vegetarian food.

Our working place will be in the Ionian hotel, 1 minute walking.

INSURANCE

Each participant is responsible about his/her insurance (Please bring yourEuropean health card with you).

TRANSPORTATION

How to arrive to Lefkas:

When you arrive to Athens El. Venizelos Airport you have to take the city busX93 to the bus station Kifissos, it will take about 60 min and the ticket costsabout 6 €. There you have to take the bus to Lefkas which takes 5.30 hours andcosts 36.80 €. We will pick you from the bus station of Lefkas to the hotel.

Pay attention because there are only 4 buses from Athens to Lefkas (At 7:00,13:00, 16:30 and 20:30) so please organise your flight so as to arrive early inAthens and catch the bus to Lefkas.

Very important: Please KEEP ALL THE BILLS, TICKETS AND BOARDINGPASSES from your travel, and send your boarding pass of your returntrip, when you will be back home.

PARTICIPATION FEE

100% of accommodation and basic food are covered by the programme.

Fixed amount of your travel cost (as mentioned above) are covered by the programme.

Each participant should pay 25 Euros participation fee.

HOW TO BE PREPARED FOR THE TRAINING COURSE

1- To prepare a presentation about good practices of networks for exchange ofservices and skills between citizens, existing in each country.

2- To make a video which contains interviews with young local/Europeanvolunteers who are hosted in each country and who express their point of viewabout creating and developing a local network for the exchange of services andskills as well as the expected impact of this type of network on them and onthe host community.

3- To bring National/typical food and drinks for the intercultural evening (songs,dances, national costumes, music etc.).

4- Information about your organization (books, brochures, posters, postcards,video, PowerPoint presentation, etc.).

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

For you safety:

- You should have your disinfectant bottle during the days of the course.

- We will provide to you soap for personal use, gloves and masks.

- The meeting room will be large (more than 100 square meters).

- Our activities will be adapted. We will also provide a big bus for the excursion in order to keep the safety distance.
