Barney Dutka recommended him for deliberations in the Experts Workshop on the
"Toxicological Monitoring of Drinking Water in Developing Countries,” held at Ottawa,
Canada, organized by International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, in the
third week of June, 1996.
2. A Korean Scientist, Dr. Gap Soo Hwang (Ph.D.) working as an Assistant Professor at Kunsun
National University, Korea, was very much impressed with his research work on water
pollution and applied in 1996 to work in Prof. Ahmad’s laboratory as a Visiting Professor,
along with his own fellowship but our University could not provide the desired facilities.
3. Two best-rated National Dailies i.e. Times of India and Indian Express
published some of his research findings on the Ganga Water pollution in their New Delhi
editions of 20th & 23rd September, 1996 issues respectively. The research work

was also appreciated by MAAS News Letter (1996), A.M.U. Aligarh, News &
Views (1996), and by the Hindi daily, Amar Ujala (1988).

Rare Distinctions Achieved
1. Prof. Ahmad was the sole representative and expert from South Asia invited for
deliberations in the first Water Tox workshop organized by IDRC, Canada, held in the third
week of June, 1996, to chalk out an agenda for the toxicological monitoring of drinking
water in the Developing Countries.
2. Only Indian Scientist selected for the prestigious ICGEB/ UNIDO fellowship to work at
International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi
Component.
3. Served as Consultant Researcher (Expert on Mission) of UNIDO, Vienna, from 1991 to
October 1994.
4. Member of International Net-Work of IDRC, Canada, in the field of water toxicology.
IDRC is the crown Canadian Government Organization for funding Research projects to the
Developing Countries (1996-2000).
5. Invited member of National Biotechnology Board, New Delhi, India for participation in
the 7th International Biotechnology Symposium, 1984, held at Delhi as an outstanding
young scientist working in the area of Biotechnology at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

received for the sophisticated instruments, rare chemicals and research personnel for the
biochemical work to be carried out under my supervision from May 1987 to May 1990.
2. Interdisciplinary project of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, New Delhi
on “Integrated Study of Ganga Eco-System between Narora and Kannauj, U.P." A grant of

1. Worked as Co-Principal Investigator in the CSIR project entitled “Molecular mechanism of
chromium resistance in bacteria from tannery effluents: application of resistant isolates in
the removal of chromium from waste and soil” vide CSIR No. 24(0271)/04/EMR-II from
01.04.2005 to 31.03.2008.
2. Worked as Co-Investigator of Department of Science and Technology, (DST) New Delhi
research project and was the sole guide in the absence of Prof. S.M. Hadi for one year on
"Cloning the structural genes of restriction end nucleases EcoRI and EcoRI" from April,
1982 to June, 1986. The recombinant clone was given to the CSIR centre for Biochemical,
New Delhi for Commercial exploitation.
3. Worked as the Co-Principal Investigator of DST research project on “Taxonomic studies on
heterodrid nematodes of northern India with reference to their molecular taxonomy", from
May, 1985 to May, 1988.

4. Worked as one of the Co-Principal Investigators in the interdisciplinary project on
"Integrated study of Ganga ecosystem between Narora and Kannauj, UP" sanctioned by the
Ministry of Environment and Forests, New Delhi from May 1987 to May, 1990.

35. Published nine books, edited two books and more than two dozen articles on various aspects
of science, philosophy, religion, Al-Quran etc. in addition to the publications in the

professional subject areas i.e. related to biochemistry, molecular biology, environmental
toxicology, vaccine development and nematology.
